It’s like they had a quarter of their funding for voice actors and had to cut most of the cast
They did. They only had 85 for this movie instead of the 150 as the others. An interview revealed that the director Mike Mitchell cut them because they were too expensive with the lowered budget to make room for all the new side characters’ VAs. They were originally not going to be in the movie at all until the marketing refused to market unless they were in the movie, so the 5 were added last minute at the end of development and at the end of the movie. Mike also didn’t want Zhen and the chameleon to have any backstory whatsoever, until Stephanie fought and fought for it only to get it in last minute, which is why the chameleon didn’t have a flashback backstory like Zhen. Earlier drafts would’ve had Zhen sneaking Po into the lair in a box for 20 MINUTES until Stephanie spoke up “Uhh, this is KUNG FU panda!” The writing story isn’t up to par with the previous 3 because the writers were all gone on strikes and higher ups pushed the plot writing over to the animators instead of waiting for the writers to come back. I can’t remember his name but a big time character designer worked on kfp4 for 1 week before walking out. Also Stephanie Ma Stine the co-director wanted Shifu to be defeated and kidnapped by the chameleon so he could be there at the end to have his final goodbye closure with Tai Lung, but Mike and other higher ups straight up just said Nope You’re a nobody and didn’t do it. .Stephanie did her best to put heart and soul into this movie, but Mike was given all the control, shit her down at every turn, didn’t listen to her ideas and called her a nobody, and thought kfp4’s main audience was going to be just kids so he focused solely on comedy and budget and profit at the expense of characters, character development, emotional depth, good storytelling, and untold numbers of missed opportunities that were shoved right in front of his face!

Everytime po gets a massive reputation just because of the plot armours. Otherwise he's just good as shit. Don't agree with me? Look at how Po fought with Chameleon's guards and look at how Tai Lung fought. It took him barely ten seconds to beat the crap out of all of them. Po started running away. Lol.

To be fair Shen got himself killed, Po didn't exactly intentionally kill him

Want to k ow what would of been far more compelling? Delete the fox girl. Start the movie with sorcerer lizard stealing tai lungs chi first. Then have tai lung flee to po and they go on a journey together with a nerfed tai lung unable to use his chi until the final fight where po is trapped and tai lung is given the chance to redeem himself
Then let them both jump sorcerer girl together.
Can end the movie with tai lung either becoming dragon warrior or refusing to find his own path

I truly believe The Chameleon is one of, if not the strongest KFP villain. She just had the misfortune of facing Po, who I firmly believe held back the *ENTIRE* movie. They really gave her the Jogo treatment, imagine if the Fraudulent Flops showed up, they'd get cooked so fast 😭😭

I was just completely disappointed in this one. While not completely terrible, it's definitely the worst of the Kung Fu Panda franchise - beating the third film by a mile. The only real redeeming qualities are the animation qualities and the music. The jokes could be funny, but most were a miss - especially that one scene where Po and Zhen sneak around all those sleeping henchmen, while making absurdly loud noises (that didn't even wake anyone). I was absolutely disappointed that the Furious Five didn't even have supporting roles. And the Chameleon was definitely the most pathetic villain of the franchise - everything she did was because she was too small to learn Kung Fu? Kung Fu is all about technique, not size. Zhen is smaller than her, so how did she learn Kung Fu? Heck, Mantis is smaller than both of them, and he's one of the greatest warriors in all of China. And they basically dumbed down Po's character, despite all the growth he's done in the previous three movies.
And having Po choose Zhen as his successor...that was a down right terrible decision. It was like the movie was basically saying that it doesn't matter if you're not likeable and have little to no character development - just as long as you're a woman - so it was like shoving more of that female empowerment toxicity that has been going on with other projects in our faces. If that's what they were going for, than they had to look no further...than Tigress - she has had almost as much character development and growth than Po has - she was the perfect candidate for the title. But what probably disappointed me the most...was the limited time Tai Lung had. Tai Lung has always been my favorite antagonist of the entire franchise - and he deserved better than what he got. What happened to giving him a proper Redemption Arc? The side characters are also no better. There was so much that could have made this movie better.
How about The Chameleon suffering from an illness that prevents her from becoming a Kung Fu master - and so, she turned to magic to steal the powers of masters to become the strongest warrior alive (but never truly gets over her illness; which is why she continues to steal so many). The Chameleon hires Zhen to steal Po's staff - which she does, but is confronted by Shifu and is forced to take him as well. The Chameleon opens the Spirit Realm to summon Kung Fu master and steal their power, but Tai Lung escapes. Po struggles to choose the right candidate, but then Tai Lung reveals The Chameleon's plan. They head to Juniper City to take down the Chameleon. On their way, Tai Lung and Po train and begin to learn from each other - but the Furious Five have trouble trusting him. Once there, they meet up with Zhen, who agrees to help them…for a price. They head to the Chameleon's lair, but Zhen betrays them and the Chameleon steals their Kung Fu (minus Po, Tigress and Tai Lung who narrowly escape). Po and Tai Lung get into a duel after Po loses his confidence, but Tai Lung encourages him. Zhen realizes her mistake and helps Po convince the Den of Thieves to stop the Chameleon.
As the villagers battle the Chameleon's army, Po, Tigress and Tai Lung try to fight the Chameleon but get overwhelmed when the Chameleon turns into a horrifying Chimaera. The Chameleon then steals their powers, and soon overpower them. Po gives Tigress his staff, with which she summons a majestic dragon of Yin and Yang, which defeats the Chameleon; and uses the staff to return all of the stolen kung fu skills to their owners, who return to the Spirit Realm. Shen and Kai take the Chameleon with them. As Tai Lung departs, Po closes the portal; allowing Tai Lung to stay and further redeem himself. Tai Lung gives his respect to Po and finally acknowledges him as the true Dragon Warrior. Back at the Valley, Tai Lung reunites with Shifu, expressing that he will wait as long as it takes to be forgives…before accepting a cup of warm tea with his old master. Po choose Tigress as his successor. Po and Tai Lung help train Tigress to become the next Dragon Warrior.

@@M.W.K6996yeah I thought the whole needing a new dragon warrior thing was a little random and didn’t see why po couldn’t be the dragon warrior AND spiritual leader. I felt like Shi Fu could have been the spiritual leader if they really needed someone else. I guess they just really wanted to introduce a new main character (assuming the series is going to continue).

I think that sounded like a great story plan and WISH that the director and writers had just made it that way from the beginning-
Hell, even after seeing the commercials for this movie, I thought it was painfully obvious that Zhen was going to be the next Dragon Warrior, but I had SOME hope inside that she was simply a red herring, and that Tai Lung was in fact going to be chosen and go on a big redemption arc like so many fans had been yearning for. For God’s sake, he was plastered over every promotional poster and commercial for this thing, and only ended up getting 3 minutes of screen time- what a waste. ☹️
Zhen and Chameleon were the best parts of the movie. 😊
I thought the chameleon was a very bland villain. I did like the dynamic between zhen and po tho.

Did people not notice that chameleon used shin feather trick and it worked on po. The movie isn’t really that great compared to the other movies but at least it kept up the lore.
