    During our ITR Live show with Jim Cornette, we asked him about his role in the creation of the Kane character. Corny goes into great detail about the original idea, how it evolved and what lead to Kane's debut during the Hell In A Cell between Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. Subscribe to the channel for more clips of our live shows and interviews and don't forget to like and comment too!

      Creation doesn't come out of a vacuum, every single thing you've ever listened to, watched, or read, was influenced by something else, when people complain about someone stealing something it's more often than not just sour grapes that other person was better at something than they were. All creative ideas are about taking influences and molding them into something new.

      Undertaker winning the belt actually makes it more complicated. Say if Taker wins where do you go from there. Taking the belt off taker while looking credible would be a bigger headache. Also problem is this Taker was still not Biker taker and could not move like he was able to due to character reasons. So though you have a credible champion you can't have five star matches always because apart from Bret and Shawn there's not much better workers at top of the card at this point. Also making Shawn and Bret losing clean to Taker would reduce their credibility. There's a lot to think about when you put the belt on Taker.

    • @Airdathegamer
      @Airdathegamer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      To be fair, that match had a perfect ending with Michaels winning. It's a horror show in October, and Taker is like a movie slasher. He's essentially slowly and methodically murdering Michaels. We hate Michaels and think he deserves it at first, but then as we get near the end we start sympathizing with him. Sure, he's an asshole, but the poor guy's getting ripped to shreads. By the end of the match he is barely conscious. And right when the slasher is going for the kill, BAM. Like a lot of great horror movies, there's a twist at the end. The hunter becomes prey. Shawn Michaels was paying for his sins, but now it's time for Taker to confront his demons. This cold emotionless killer who basically didn't emote throughout the match, now he has a look of shock and horror in his face. It's the perfect finish for this match IMO.

      @@akapbhan Shawn wasn't the champion at Hell in a Cell Bret still was this was before Survivor Series, in fact Bret had beat Taker for the belt at Summerslam 1997 because of Shawn accidentally hitting Taker with a chair. It's only because Vince wanted Shawn and Bret so badly since Wrestlemania 12.

    • @kevoconnor145
      @kevoconnor145 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ShadowAngel the reason it wouldn't work before the debut is because part of the story was Undertaker not believing Paul Bearer when he said Kane was alive. It would have worked after the debut as a way of showing how long and how obsessed he was with getting "revenge" on the Undertaker.

    • @kevoconnor145
      @kevoconnor145 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ShadowAngel don't be so condescending. Just because people have different views from you, it doesn't mean they are thinking "1 dimensionally" and it doesn't mean their view isn't any less valid than yours. The fact that all we had was Paul saying he was alive made it a more intriguing angle and the fact we had no evidence to prove it, made the debut better, imo.

    A lot of people say Kane’s character died in different years.. but for me he slowly started going down hill after his second loss to taker (inferno match) for me Kane should have took the win at either mania or the inferno match, soon as he lost both those he just became a mid card player who had the odd brief moment at the top. They could have got much more out of the masked 97 Kane

      The whole Chyna , X PAC , Tori , Corporation stuff is when the downfall slowly started. At least Kane destroyed taker after he loss at WM & at unforgiven all he did was slip & got caught on fire.

    • @J0511-j1o
      @J0511-j1o 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Vicious Precision it’s not so much the fact he lost - it’s that he never won, if Kane had dominated and won the inferno match I think that would have done a lot more for his character at that point - but I hear what you’re saying. The tori x pac triangle/feud was shit, they tried normalising a Kane character with feelings etc - poor move

    Cornette did get one detail wrong: the HBK-Taker HIAC wasn’t for the title, it was a #1 contenders match to decide who would challenge Bret for the title at Survivor Series. He’s probably getting it mixed up with the HBK-Taker casket match at the ‘98 Rumble (the one where Kane nailed Taker into the casket and then set it on fire), which was for the title and was the actual blowoff to their feud.

    imagine if they put cornette and heyman as creatives today for WWE... we'd have great characters and stories instead of watching over-recycled edge vs orton nonsense... i wanna see talents like AJ and Nakamura and Samoa Joe and Finn Balor and Cesaro get their rightful push their talents deserve... heck even the womens division would become more interesting than bailey and sasha just walloping belts for no reason and deadening the value of the women titles... asuka needs to used properly... without being cliche she could be the ricky steamboat of womens wrestling
