  • Just a quick video on my portable ham radio setup. Didn't have much luck with contacts. I'm going to blame being in a small valley where that park is located. I've since gotten a couple contacts in Europe.. so it works, but takes some luck.

Just found your video and i too bought the SOTA special antenna, i needed something small for my go box i could put up and tear down quickly for running POTA. I have enjoyed using this antenna with a Yeasu 891 and a Bioenno 15ah battery, K8MKL and I (W8MJL) have made hundreds of contacts through out North & South America, Canada, Europe just running 50 to 75 watts. One thing i found that was helpful was to mark the coil once to get a perfect SWR for the Freq with a sharpie so you have an easy reference for repeated placement, another tip is to make a couple more radials as it'll help further reduce your swr. I've not had much success working 6M on this antenna but it could've been my area and conditions at the time as i've not tried since. But all and all i love my WRC antenna and wouldn't trade it for the world.
Good luck and have fun 73 de W8MJL & K8MKL

Thinking about this one, are you still using it.
    Thanks

yup. now i sometimes use just the coil and mast on a car mount too (not driving though!) and have had good results that way too. definitely a nice antenna to have
