    You guys need a candid vlog of your community! I think it will unveil a lot of misconceptions about life in community

    Melinda great as always, Rich you’re getting better ;-)! Once you get into a routine within the community I’m sure it’s mostly easy sailing, it’s the initial giving things up which makes it difficult!

    I'm intrigued and if I were a younger man I could see myself being all in with Bruderhof. At 55, however, I doubt that I could be of much use to the community.

    I used to work on a nuclear submarine, so I suppose our crew was an intentional community in a way. I find Anabaptists sects interesting but I can never do it. I would get bored with simple living.

    How come the BBC news story on the Bruderhof Communities was discontinued? I found that very fascinating. Also i was wondering if there is crime in the community and if so does the law ever get involved there?

    • @Bruderhof
      @Bruderhof  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BBC didn't show the documentary because the news segment ran into overtime. Not sure when/if it will be rescheduled. To your other question best explanation is here: www.bruderhof.com/en/our-faith/foundations/church-order/no-law-but-love

    Hello. It was wonderful news when I first time heard there is still churches who still practrice community of goods like your congregations.
    I am 30 years old and I was nominal christian from my birth . First I was catholic, later I was in different kind of “evengelical’’ groups, but still I was christian only by name.
    Couple years ago I started to seek the Lord seriously and I became to undarstand if I desire to follow Jesus truly it is impossible to live for myself. Also I started to know if I am true christian it is impossible to have anything as my ‘’private property’’. What It does mean in practice.
    Man or woman cannot be a christian in biblical sense when for example he or she have house with a lot of space and see another christian who don’t have place to live and she or he will not help that person when he or she could. Obviously I undarstand there is sometimes difficult situations to resolve for example when women come to Christ when she has unbeliever husband and this husband doesn’t want to share his goods with christian people. Obviously we cannot force to unbeliever to live like believer.
    However in my life I met so many people who name themself as christian. There is ‘’christian’’ family which they don’t have nobody who could stop them to help to other people. Because husband, wife, children and further family member claims they are newborn christian. But sadly in situation like that when they meet other people(even members the same congregaton that they have Lord’s Supper with them) who is in need, quite often the people could to say: ‘’You have wordly family, may your family help you’’ This completely against to the Word of Gods, as we know from the 1 John 3:13-24 and of the from the Word of God at all.
    They have possibility to help but they think they are christian but they don’t have to share their house or car with other people. Some of them claim that only people with ‘’special vocation’ should to live like that. It is not for every christian.
    I and my wife undarstand it is not only for some special groups but for every christian and we think community of goods like your is very good way to realize this biblical truth in practice.
    I would like to have be a closer contact with you. If there is some brothers and sisters when we could have contact by whatsapp or something like that?
    Couple of month ago I tried contacted with somebody at Bruderhof by e-mail and I think i will continue it, but I wish to to contact with someone from your more real time if it is obviously possible.
    Please let me know here.
    God bless you.
    Michael

    Strikes me its a beautiful tihng to do and a great life choice but not currently necessary as it was for the early church when in hiding and under real persecution - but, that said, dont run out and get a mortgage just yet, I see that train a coming back into the station within our life times. Problem is, haven't you self-ghettoized making possible end times persecution even easier?

    • @Bruderhof
      @Bruderhof  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting question. Yes in some ways it's a challenging moment for people of faith and for that reason it's a great thing to have the support of a fellowship of believers. But I'd say we still have it very good compared to most of the rest of the world.

    How long does a stay or visit have to be before deciding to make a commitment to join the Bruderhof? Or is it open ended? 6 months, 1 year, longer? etc..is it a combined agreement between the individual and community?

    • @Bruderhof
      @Bruderhof  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no set time. For some folks it'll be a matter of years for others it could be less than that.

  • @easttexassuburbanhomestead9172
    @easttexassuburbanhomestead9172 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What if someone joined your community an then decided years down the road that they wanted to leave.

    • @Bruderhof
      @Bruderhof  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would absolutely be free to leave and would receive support to do so.

    I know your community does bible study as a spiritual practice, but are there people in your community doing other contemplative practices like meditation? The reason I ask is bible study can go deep as practice, but still is often mind orientated; while meditation can really open us to the holy spirit beyond the mind.

    • @Bruderhof
      @Bruderhof  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure some people meditate or have times of quiet reflection. Times of silence are very important and it's up to each person to make room for that.

      dc thomas, I totally hear an 'accent' as well..I read Melinda's reply to you saying she didn't even know she had an accent, lol I was surprised to not hear her explain that she doesn't at least have some British Roots in her Family Tree! I think I had learned that Melinda has been raised in the Bruderhof..I guess her way of speaking has been developed by those around her all her life (as true for all of us). Where ever it stems from...I love the way she talks..she is adorable too!

    • @Bruderhof
      @Bruderhof  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@untilIgetbackHome That's hilarious. Actually, my dad's family is British and my mom is Canadian. I've never lived in either place myself, but I did spend two years in Australia, so i'm sure I do have a strange idiolect. I guess no one has an accent to themself. :)
