Hi Rebecca! Glad to see you & Gypsy back to sharing your sustainable and minimalist insights:) As a sustainably minded minimalist myself, I appreciate your intentions on the clothing front. You make an important point about the "binge" and "purge" mentality. It's so disheartening to know only 9% of what we donate goes on to be resold/reworn.
Luckily, I was able to make it through the summer without buying anything new. Suprized myself by easily making due with the minimal wardrobe I have. There were items that I envisioned that I would use but didn't find just the right quality pieces made out of the organic natural fibers that I prefer and which align with my values. Doing my best to not buy synthetic/plastic/petroleum clothing that won't shed plastic particles in our water. Trying also to steer away from lycra/spandex clothing which they unfortunately also mix with Organic cotton. The blending of these fibers doesn't lend to their ability to be recycled or integrated naturally back into the earth. Recently I was excited to find some organic cotton yoga clothing sans lycra that I love. Unfortunately, they still have an elastic waistband instead of drawstring. Just put a request in for the company to produce the line with undyed and/or plant dyed options. I think I may end up trying to source some organic undyed natural fabrics and brush up on my sewing skills and play with creating natural dyes.

Nice to see you with gypsy back for a new season. I liked this video, as I think people not filling the donation centres with excessive amounts of clothing just bought on a whim or as a last minute thing for ‘something quick to wear’ is a great thing. So I am glad you are making people aware of how small a percentage of clothing is actually resold and reworn a second time. So many donations simply get thrown into landfill. I am aware some does get recycled, but that is also a very small percentage (slightly more than resale I think) because the synthetic fibres such as nylon, elastane and plastics often prevent this from happening. Also if landfills become over full in some countries, it get sent to poorer countries and ends up littering their environment or being burned, thus creating pollution either way. Plus, crates of clothing cargo often falls from over packed vessels and ends up polluting our oceans too.

I love your ideals and being very intentional with your purchases, etc. Personally this is exactly how I’d like to live my life, especially as I’m older now and have been suffering with a chronic illness for decades. Getting older isn’t helping how I physically feel as well as my emotional health. My husband and grown son don’t see things the same but that’s for another day.😖 I’m currently trying to declutter my wardrobe and as much of my house that I have control over or physically can handle. I love these types of videos for the motivation they give me. I may not be the speediest but I look at it one day at a time as long as I’m making progress. Just subscribed.🥰

Ive been thinking about a major challenge we all encounter with staying minimal and sustainable which is.... following trends. Like the constant flip flop of style changes like jeans are now wide leg, not skinny so the thrift has HEAPS of skinny. Such an environmental disaster. But do we just stick with looking outdated for the sake of the environment? I'm with you- I try to buy second hand too!! Love ThredUp.

This is such a poignant video! I had an outdoor wedding to attend and completely spun out of control! My age, unhappiness with recent weight gain, the setting (outdoor, grass, bugs, etc.) ALL lead to a frazzled mess. I couldn't define my "style". How I wanted to be seen in the world - and was miserable. Spent good money on STUPID purchases because I was so lost. If nothing else, this video makes me feel less isolated in this issue. Thanks for your videos! Love from Alaska

Good to see you and the beautiful Gypsy back again. Thank you for being straightforward about sometimes being dragged back into the commercial buying world.
In the UK our clothes recycling rate is much better via charity shops. If clothes dont sell they are then bought by fabric firms who guarentee to recycle over 50% of that.

Good to see you and Gypsy. I’m quite a bit older than you are, but 4 years ago we sold our big home in the city, and moved onto a hobby farm. I parted with a lot of stuff then, but my lifestyle has changed, and I need to get rid of more things that someone else might need, but I have no use for. I do thrift shop, but I’m very intentional with what I add to my collection. This journey will be interesting.
I’ve learned a lot from your videos, and have made some swaps that are definitely helping the environment, as well as my pocketbook! THANKS!

I did purchase lever back earring pieces from Amazon to change all my hanging earrings over to that style. I am so uncomfortable with the hook stile. And now I can wear most of my earrings again with comfort/not poking my neck

Rebecca, this video struck a chord with me as I too am struggling with my personal style and have recently bought clothes that other people have liked but were not me. I am now selling them and trying to curate a minimal wardrobe that suits me and my body shape, buying only sustainably or second hand. It's tough! Good luck!

Welcome back! ❤❤❤ Yes, I would love to follow your style journey. The seasons of life will always cause us to need a few updates to our clothing but I really try to stick to a capsule wardrobe. I live in a 4 season state so your tub reminds me of my out of season stuff (I put it away so it doesn’t get dusty). Having lost some weight recently I took some of my favorites to the tailor and it was surprisingly affordable and they fit great again. Maybe that would work for your pants you mentioned being too big. Good luck on your journey!

I love everything about you - beautiful lady, lovely husband, perfect dog, wonderful home - But to be completely honest, I have never understood your taste in clothes 😂So sorry to say that - not my business and to each his own - but your wardrobe has always come across as a hodge podge, mishmash of styles, colours, designs - I don't mean to be cruel - but I honestly am bewildered. When you put that skirt with orange marks on it in to the tub I almost grabbed the screen and said please don't!!!! Toss it! You really look best in neutral solids - no stripes, patterns, designs - Just classic neutrals - greys, creams. I also remember you looking great in a simple jean shirt. I find your wardrobe just complicated and random. I am really looking forward to seeing you curate your style - I don't really think its hard - I see great things in your wardrobe, but they don't stand out with all the other random mismatched stuff. I used to help friends clean out their wardrobes - If I were you, I would ditch a lot of what you already have and put back in the wardrobe - and if necessary add a few more items if necessary - but p.l.e.a.s.e. keep it neutral, simple and without all of the oddball items 💚 from Switzerland.

Twenty years ago my style was more fashionable and I shopped at exclusive boutiques because the garments fit better. Getting rid of clothing was never an issue as my friends looked forward to my give aways (we're all 5'11" - 6'2" and close in weight). Now living on the east coast my style has become fair-trade, classic, minimal and environmentally conscious. Knowing my color palette has saved me from making a lot of poor purchase choices.
Don't punish yourself about a few impulse/panic purchases because even with the best intentions we still support businesses that are don't align with our values. Just strive to be better going forward like the rest of us. At least take solace in the fact that you are conscious of the impact of what fast fashion is doing to the planet because in my conversations with people not many seem to care.

Elegant jackets are the selaution for formal
Also from natural and thin fabrics so you wear all year
    And just throw it on
    With elegant or decent shoes
    And a general decent look
Cos you have enough probably for everything else to go under
Jackets last for a long time , they are steardi
    Giving a wibe
So you dont need to worry buying stuff every year or season if its good quality
Thrifts resources are packed with those

I'm on a similar journey with my wardrobe, so I'd love to see more of your experiences with it! Im approaching my late 20s and I felt like my wardrobe was just a strange amalgamation of things I've been afraid to let go of and some kind of old schlubby clothes that are in need of replacing but to replace it all is a hassle 😅
I also try to buy sustainable so I would love to see a video on what brands you buy from (if not secondhand!)

Sounds like your lifestyle is very
Try to think about veratilety and fusions...maybe how boho sport and elegant can work together and move here and there
i try to find items i love love love and can be very flexible with every item and day
if a quality item from a naturalish usally textile from fast fashion
i know i will wear forever it would be more sustainable in my opinion sometimes
    Cos its accurate
Many thrifts and sustainable purchases i did were not intentional
And its just a waist of energy
I bought it cos of guilt and compromise somethims
    especially if im ona budget
We consume fast industries all the time
So if its worth it for the long run
    Its probably more sustainable

    • @williamclark1244
      @williamclark1244 ปีที่แล้ว

If it's fast fashion it isn't sustainable to the planet (air pollution, chemical runoff that erodes soil and pollutes water, animal abuse and death). It's worse for the people making the garments (disease, sweat shops, child labor, extremely low pay, unsafe working conditions).

I also think there’s something great about the process of pulling it all out and seeing it at once even if it only helps you determine which pieces you are missing like a pair of leggings or new underwear etc. I feel the same way when I go through my pantry and find things I need to use up or realize I need to replace.
