I'm pretty sure that's the case, I'm pretty sure he even talks about it on the tour. Or at the very least he shows off an effects pedal he's using and shows all of the cool effects he can do with it. Also when they played Sister to Sleep live he uses the voice filter for the bridge and you can see him adjusting the tone
im not an expert on harsh vocals, but what Gerard does sounds like a fry scream, there are tons of tutorials on yt on how to perform it (i recommend ExtremeVocalInstitute very easy to follow + simple tutorials that won't damage your cords gl!)
idk i went and saw mcr and now i can scream. 2022/3 is def the easiest in my opinion tho. Warming up is very important. I've tried screaming cold and it wasnt very easy or nice. get your vocals very warm. and moist. and if it hurts immediately, you're probably doing it wrong
