  • Henri Matisse's landmark painting "The Red Studio" documented the artworks displayed in his workspace just outside Paris as it existed in 1911. For the first time since then, almost all the individual pieces depicted in his painting have been reunited for an installation at New York's Museum of Modern Art. Correspondent Rita Braver reports.

How tragic is it that the finest works of art are held by private collectors and not shared with the public.

Matisse is my favorite artist - the juxtaposition of shapes and colors he uses just makes me so happy!! People always hate what they don't understand. Please keep an open mind.

Such a tempting exhibition to see! He was certainly fearless in his use of color and brushwork.

Interesting. Would love to see if this exhibition would travel to other parts of the country.

Fashionable, a la mode art critics at the time Red Studio was painted and shown thought it was a dud painting.

Not as good as his later color-form work. At Giverny you can see water rats racing through the stream!

Learn your post- impressionists...wrong artist ....Monet's lifetime creation was at Giverny. Matisse began as student in Saint-Quentin, moved to Paris, than back to Bohain of his childhood, then remainder of life in Le Cateau-Cambresis, where his museum was built.

@@joanneweiss3864 I saw an exhibit if his color form cut-outs in Paris in 2005. I was mentioning Giverny as an aside. Don't let the door hit ya, snide yenta.

@@steveconn sorry didn't expect a racist response & didn't recognize the misdirected grammar. Your "his" was a directive referring to "Giverny", not an aside. My bad.

I see nothing special about this painting. It's a 'meh' piece of art.

Let's see what kind of MEH work YOU could produce. What makes you an expert art critic? Stop using those smarmy and snarky terms.
