  • This time in our series on unfinished architectural projects we visit a palace that was not completed due to the untimely and controversial death of mad King Ludwig of Bavaria.

Seriously finish it off, history or not, it deserves to be completed to honor the memory of King Ludwig II who no doubt would have wanted to see it complete.

      Too expensive

Never gonna happen. Artisans specialised in this kind of craft are few and far between nowadays, and very expensive. There's more urgent matters tax money should be spent on, it gets wasted on enough stuff already

I have been to all the castles. Hohenschwangau where he was born, Linderhof, Herren Chiemsee, and Neuschwanstein. They are all magnificent buildings.

As another comment here pointed out, the palace of Versailles is in Versailles, hence his name. If it was in Paris I guess it would be called the palace of Paris. It is yet another an example in “the clue is in the name” category... Nice to here about Herrenchiemsee, the palace built in Munich by King Ludwig though...!

Lol, the narrator is clearly thick. The Palace of Versailles is IN Versailles a short distance FROM Paris.

Is it sad that thinking such a magnificent palace shall remain forever incomplete makes me teary-eyed?

The Bavarian Government has earned enough money from King Ludwig's palaces ,so that they can easily finish the construction of it based on the king's original plans which are still in the museum. They just don't want to bother about it.
If any one wishes to go to see this palace should not miss seeing his museum .It has all his private photographs, clothes and furniture etc.

Herrenchiemsee Palace is unfinished, but what IS finished represents what Versailles SHOULD have looked like before it was stripped of ALL it's furnishings.
Today, the Palace of Versailles is an empty SHELL.....so who can say that palace is finished?
