I grew up with an Intellivision. I think those George Plimpton ads did it for my Dad! I love seeing new games come out for it, and still enjoy playing Intellivision Lives on my Xbox.

I bought these as well except for Gorf. Now I'm anxious to pull my Intellivision out and give them a try as they are really quite fitting for the upcoming Halloween holiday!

GORF for the Intellivision is awesome.
And using Intellivoice is a nice little touch. It's one of my favorite Intellivision games ever.

I'm not a part of the Intellivision scene but I think it would be a great idea if more games supported the Intellivoice or existing games modded to add Intellivoice support to them. You know, like how the Atari community has been adding native Trak-Ball mode to just about every game that could've benefited from those controllers. I mean, the Intellivoice is so iconic to that console that it overshadowed similar devices on other systems [like "The Voice" for the Odyssey 2]. As for "The Goonies", now I'm curious if the Atari 8-bit version was home brew ported to the 5200 and likewise with the MSX version being ported to the ColecoVision...

coloecovision port of gorf was my intro to the game. i think it was uncle keith's game. heh. loved hitting that sweet spot in the flag ship in one or two shots. i believe that was the version missing a stage. awesome arcade cab with the fighter jet joystick! a good bonus. similar to old school tron in the multiple game types and the unique joystick!

Good video! I remember playing GORF on the Atari 2600. I have the cartridge version for the Atari XL/XE system! I ordered all three of these games, they are fun to play! I have an Intellivsion system and have been enjoying these homebrew releases for it. Nice!

Intellivision got me through winters in Maine in the 80s as a kid.

  • @waynerowlinson6177

My only Intellivision experience as a kid was playing the demo model at Canadian Tire. I still remember it like it was yesterday though. I got an Intellivision Flashback when they came out, and love playing some of those game. The funny thing is that because of the controls, it's one of the consoles that I really don't enjoy playing on an emulator.
Gorf looks amazing. I have the cartridge for both my Vic-20 as well as C-64 and love playing it on both. The fact that this one has all the levels is amazing.
I'd love to see a company like Atgames come out with an Intellivision Flashback with an SD card slot. That would be amazing.

Oh I'm old enough to remember playing Death Race in the arcade, and yes I remember the controversy over "running people over". We still had some of the old "popup" style arcade games during this time like Midways "Haunted House" where you had a rifle and just shot at all the mechanical popup targets.

Awwwwww man!! I want Gorf for my intellivision!!! They need to make more of these limited homebrews. By the time I find out about them, it's too late! I remember playing arcade Gorf with a friend at the local super market.lol I have it on most of my retro consoles in one form or another. My favorite version is the Atari Jaguar version I have. It has all the stages and is one of the few that does. Most versions omitted the Galaxian stage I'm sure for licensing reasons. Good stuff John and thanks for sharing!

Yeah, that's the Goonies MSX game. The Goonies "PC" game (released for Atari 8 bit and C64) was very different also and a really good game - I streamed it once so feel free to check that out.
I used to play Gorf on my Atari 8 bit back in the day - awesome game. :)
Did not know there was a Death Race port! I'm annoyed the Intellivision one is sold out but I just picked up the Odyssey 2 one that you mentioned, so I'll check that out. :)

Remember The Goonies data soft game for the Atari 800 which was nothing like either this in television version or the NES version. It was a one player controlling two and you need to alternate switching control between them. The first level I remember had you fake money to clear the way to the cellar. I'll see if I can find a copy of Goonies Atari 800. I thought that was going to be the version they were making for Intellivision

I clicked on the video as soon as I saw Gorf; Sad to hear they only made a handful of these. Played the arcade machine one summer in the 80’s while on holiday at Myrtle Beach and fell in love. Later my brother had it on his Vic-20 which blew my mind. Still the best space shooter of that generation!

Yep. My local arcade here has GORF and other great classic arcade machines as well as pinball machines too. I also have GORF on the ColecoVision which is pretty good. I have played all the Goonies, although I have never been a big fan of the movie. I do like the movie, just not too much. lol Death Race looks cool, I will have to see about playing that on my modded Arcade1up machine!
I do have an Intellivision first model with the wood paneling and black body. With the Intellivoice and about 20-30 CIB games for it. Pretty cool and fun console.

I just saw the arcade version, and I think there's one mistake: in the Space Invaders stage a giant GORF drops the aliens into formation and crosses the screen to visit, but here they use the UFO from the original Space Invaders.
If this had been released back in the day for Intellivision it would have come too late (1982) to save it. Space Invaders was the must-have game in 1980, and made the Atari. If Intellivision licensed it instead, then it would have sold a lot of cartridges and consoles and market share would have been pretty split. the Atari 2600 wouldn't have been finished since Atari still made arcade games that people wanted to play that they could port. Makes you wonder if Activision had formed to make games for the Intellivision then how many better games we might have seen 1980-1983.

Man, how I wish Inty homebrews were as readily available as the 2600 ones are on Atari Age! I've missed out on so many awesome Inty homebrews because of the limited supply. So far I've only managed to snag Intellivania and Defender of the Crown. I would be able to throw so much more support to the Inty HB community if the games weren't turned out in such limited batches.
I wish they guys could partner up with AA and increase the supply.
Gorf was one of my favorite arcade games back in the day. I love the 2600 version, but it lacks all the levels.

  • @StormsparkPegasus
    @StormsparkPegasus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

People make these for the challenge. The same reason demoscene people do what they do. Just to see how far they can push these old systems. It's pretty amazing what you can do on these old systems, that wasn't possible back in the day, with modern development environments. And things like, larger cartridge sizes due to storage being orders of magnitude cheaper. I remember Gorf, it was like Space Invaders on steroids, with a little Galaxian and Gyruss mixed in. The Intellivision is kind of the halfway point in power between the Atari 2600 and the NES. It was a signfiicant jump over the 2600.

    I love GORF.
Very nostalgic for me, I used to play on the C64 but mainly was on my 2600 back in 80s when a kid.
I'd like to have this new version game even just to have on my shelf to glance that nice cover art now and again. I don't own that console to actually play it though.
I've had a couple Intellivision over time, but have sold them... like the Mega-CD, I've had a number or them too but they're easy to quick sell for quick cash. Sure I'll pick up another Intellivision some day though

'The Goonieis' game for MSX1, by Konami is/ was an excellent game! Wow the 'GORF' looks tip-top, and, I can hear the Intellivoice performing it's magic, Like you mention, an early entry into the argument regarding video game violence, and censorship of it. IMO want to play all 3 games. Enjoyed the review, thanks.

I always played GORF up to near Space General/Admiral (near the top) - and of course remember Goonies from NES days. I think an Intellivision was 50/50 between an Atari 2600 and NES - it was essentially "Dreamcast" powerful for its day, ahead of the curve but more expensive. If these are LEGIT 100% programmed to work on native Intellivision hardware it certainly argues it! Unlike the Dreamcast it would have likely had a good chance to upgrade and take over but the crash was a black hole that sucked the market in for a while.

As far as the home ports, it's always irked me that they all left the Galaxian board out. They're still fun to play though. There's also a really good home brew for the GBA that was shared on the AtariAge forums several yeas back by the creator.

Had GORF on the Colecovision, which was a pretty awesome port. Oddly enough, though, I seem to recall it was missing the Galaxian stage. I never actually played the arcade version until recently. We have an underground arcade in Boise, which because it serves alcohol, is adults-only (perfect place for us retro-gamer geeks, ever nostalgic for the 80s!). I enjoyed the video. I never had an Intellivision, and hadn't played any of the games, except Gorf, which I think I must of had on the C64. All the games look great, especially for the Intellivision.
It's neat to see what programmers were able to get out of the hardware either late in the run of the older consoles like the Intellivision, and the Atari 2600, and what they are able to do today.
I wanted to ask, I know years back there was an Intellivision mini system made with lots of games on it, similar to Atari Flashback. Have you played that, and is it worth getting, or am I better to search out an old Intellivision, and cartridges if I want to revisit the Intellivision?
If you have played it, or own it, you've probably already made a video on here. When I have more time I'll come back and search for it, but just wondered what your general thoughts were, and your overall verdict was on that Intellivision console with a bunch of games included?

    • @IvoryTowerCollections
      @IvoryTowerCollections 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You are looking for the Intellivision Flashback. I have one and it is okay. It is using emulation of course but for most people just wanting to relive the experience without having to go through getting an actual console and games, it is a great option. It is considered to be one of the better flashback releases. It at least uses actual sized controllers that work very well. I even have a set of the flashback controllers that I rewired for use with my Intellivision 2 and Sears model Intellivision.

    MSX Port?
The Goonies wasn't released on arcades. There's the Konami game for MSX and NES which are different games (and on the MSX version it is Sloth you play with indeed), and there's the C64/Spectrum/Amstrad CPC game by Datasoft.
The guy who made Gooninuff also made a Metal Gear kinda of "port" for Intellivision, also based on the MSX version, but its MUCH further from the MSX version than Gooninuff is. Still worth checking it out.
But Gooninuff is really one of the most impressive Intelivision games I've ever seen.

You should check out Intellivania then, as it will blow your mind.

I'm torn. I don't enjoy most platformers, so have little interest in The Gooninuffs, but both of the other two games appeal to me. I've played both GORF and Death Race in the arcade BITD. GORF is a great shooter, but I also liked arcade Death Race, and it's a lot less common of a game.
How do these games control? I would think that Death Race lends itself better to the Intellivision controller, whereas GORF would really wear out your thumb!
Maybe I should just break my bank account and order both...

Who cares. At least they are using a blockchain which would in turn potentially attract newer investors into crypto, or at least look into crypto investing.
More investors and retail people getting into crypto the better!
