To be fair, Acuna was far from a slow starter last season. He was the player of the month in April and was the clear MVP favorite after one month, for what that's worth. Defensively, he's better than everyone else in your Top 5.
Could you make a video also taking into account card values on these 10 guys and where you think the most bang for you buck is? Acuna,Tatis and sotos values are a lot higher then Bichette and roberts, for example
The video would be dated in a hurry because the market moves so fast. What player are you wondering about? Usually a bowman 1st base auto or parallel auto, or bowman 1st parallels are a good choice. Topps chrome and paper rookie card numbered parallels are a good bet as well. Topps chrome rookie parallel or base autos do well.
Your content is exemplary. I was guessing who you were going to include on the list as you were going through it, and most seemed spot on. But, your supporting data behind the predictions makes it hard to argue. I am interested to see how Acuna bounces back
Thank you, I really appreciate that. I understand not everyone has the same feelings and thoughts about the same players but I try to at least defend my thinking haha. I am on the same page. I am hoping that Acuna can be the same player he was pre injury. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Happy to have found your channel. I've been picking up a few RC's of these younger guys that have caught my eye while watching games last year. Prices are great right now.
I like it. Soto, Tatis, Vlad, Tucker are my current top 4. I’m probably higher on Tucker than I should be but considering how slow he started last year he had a solid season.
Just subscribed! Thanks for the knowledge! I pc Vlady Jr and Franco but that Soto is a beast going to look into him now. I'm with guy if you can make a vid showing the value of these top 10 players that would be cool! Great vid again!
10000% agree on Kyle Tucker! Wayyyyyyyyy overlooked right now in the hobby. It’s wild to me how little his stuff goes for when he just put up the numbers he did in his age 24 season
Definitely. It will be surprising to see if his stuff starts to move at all with the season approaching. IF he can put up another big year I doubt his cards will stay this low for long.
Before last season I was interested in Bo Bichette and Trea Turner. I chose these two simply by looking at fantasy baseball rankings. They were both in the top 10 for projected batters. WAR, age, and price values made sense.
Been binge watching your videos lately.. My list would be almost identical although I would have maybe chose KeBryan over like Albies ..a year and a half, two years ago I started going in heavy on Soto Acuna and Tatis rookies. It paid off...and now I've been dangling my Acuna and Soto collections out there but honestly I'm not dying to sell. I'm a big believer in all three. My Tatis collection is the nicest but I feel like my Soto is already worth a lot and has a lot of upside..but those two are definitely my favorite
Great list. Kyle Tucker is my slept on player that I am really high on right now. I'm also gonna buy a really nice Devers and Albies card soon. As again I feel like they are slept on a bit.
So I have bought quite a few Robert rcs sold the like crusade one but which is his best rc like low pop and good price I've been buying Bowman best or Topps finest rcs over topps feel like there are less of them
Vlady is #1 with only his second winter of exercising, we'll you saw what happened last year. I believe you love defensive play, we all do but maybe you overvalue it, and BTW Bo's D improved over the season and is horn in the stays I recon. Thanks man
I got thousands of cards and to me they have always just been card board for me it’s all about actual autographs those are the best. Love my Willy mays and willie McCovey autos my best is Arron rodgers on card auto I got in 2008 on his rookie card
Great list I know Wander is good but too early to put him in the top 10 I would have had Eloy in there. I do think Wander is going to be good but needs a full year under his belt before I would rank him in the top 10
was hoping someone could help me. I just opened a topps 2021 baseball series one factory sealed tin that I bought from walmart. i pulled a tty-15 hank aaron auto 5/5. This exact card sold on ebay in August of 2021. How can that be?
I agree with this list for now, but I actually could interchange any of those top 3 and make an argument for Vladdy being in that group as well. Wander likely too but to me, Vladdy is still above Wander bc he is doing the things that get MVPs, while a lot of Wanders game isn’t as shiny to voters.
Thanks Duncan. I think Soto is a firm one but anyone else from 5-2 can be interchanged over the next year or two. I am excited to see how it all plays out.
Thanks for the content and the great video. I have been collecting since 1985 and have had my share of hit and misses in the card prospecting game. This is a great list but like all lists that prospect for gold in the Sportscard sector, it is subject to the unforeseen vagaries of a career in the majors. Anything and everything can happen to derail a career or change its trajectory, where a brilliant prospect churns out non-brilliant results. Collectors should always proceed with caution when investing as you can lose your shirt very quickly (especially with today's jaw-dropping prices, as the hobby has become a runaway train as an investment vehicle with huge upside but even bigger downside. It seems that every time an unproven, but overhyped "premium" orange or red refractor auto is pulled from a pack (and get a 9.5 or 10 from the big 3), it is immediately posted on eBay for $20,000 with the seller sitting on unwarranted future appreciation in the hopes of getting rich quick. These unsubstantiated assets of unproven talent act as outliers and create extreme turbulence in an already tumultuous card investing scene. It makes no sense. The floor is littered with Hiuras, Kelenics, Lewises, Andujars, and Profars. We all have seen that. I like John Sterling's line when it comes to card collecting: "You can forecast baseball, but you can't predict it."
I like targeting vets that maybe fell off a bit popularity wise though can be nice pickups. The 25 and under are peaking and will come at a premium. I think the guys who perform well like the Judges, Stanton, Bellinger types guys they are poised to breakout again though aren't as hyped as much keeping them at a good value.
I think Aaron Judge is one of the best values in all of sports cards. He is a great ball player and was a top 5 mvp placer this year. If he can stay healhty I think his cards can really make a comeback.
asked this on a couple channels, maybe someone has an opinion? if kyler Murray left football for baseball and was really good? would his football cards hold their value?
Good video as usual...and you are right about NOT including prospects on your list. Most top prospects these days are way overhyped. Do you know in 2017 a bgs gem Vlad Jr would set you back over 2k...and that was before the market exploded. Now even after his amazing season, you can get one for under 2k. But then again...guys like Soto and Yordan, who was never their teams top prospect..could be had for under a 100 bucks...so I guess it goes both ways
Prospecting is insane right now. It also all changes so quickly. A Nolan Arenado Bowman Chrome Blue auto BGS 9.5/10 only goes for `$1,400 but a Bobby Witt Jr Bowman chrome blue auto 9.5/10 goes for over $4,500. There is a lot of recency bias and hype in this hobby. As long as you don't get sucked into that then you can make some good money!
@@scottiebcards2354 Yup...everything is based on being the next Trout. As long as you still have the chance to put up Trout numbers, your cards will still trend upwards and hold value...but as soon as you start to show you might even just be a VERY solid player, but not all time great, your value will decline...Like you said, Arenado, Goldy, Freddie, Machado...and so on... very SOLID, but cards aren't even close to Acuna Soto Tatis Vlad....If those 4 keep putting up the numbers they are... and win a few MVPs...they'll trend up.
I sure hope so. There is just so much solid talent that good players are being overlooked. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out! Sounds like a sweet card Zach!
I worry about longevity with body types like VLadimir.... after THE "big contract" gets signed it seems the motivation wanes after they have achieved that level of income.... so I'm comfortable with his trajectory the next 3-5 years... after that around 30 -31 complacency can kick in... I hope not ... he is funfunfun. If he is in the gym every off season throw out everything I said.... lol.... Just how driven he is?
Hey, you could be right. There are a lot of examples of that in the sports world (every sport). I hope that Vlad is driven by the fact his dad is a hall of famer and that he wants to be as good or better. If he can manage his weight I think that he has all the tools to get there, but it is definitely something you need to watch if you collect his cards.
I'm concerned with Wander Franco's stuff already being so high right now that he might not be able to fully live up to the hype generated that warrants his current asking prices. Not saying that I think he'll falter. Just saying that he's not someone who I'd be willing to pay the big bucks for right now at the current asking price without at least seeing what he could do after a full season. Acuna, Soto, Tatis, and Vlad, on the other hand, are already proven.
Amen. That is my biggest issue with the hobby right now. We are paying way too much for unproven talent and ignoring those that are already successful. Thanks for the thoughts!
It’s all insane. Just look at Marcelo Mayer prices on eBay for autos and parallels. The 1/1 non-auto chrome sold for almost $9000. It’s become a rich man’s game, unfortunately
It's a good time to sell them Franco's . Even if he is amazing. The cards will go down before the go back up to stay... Vlad is not proven imo, guy had one good ,not fat year. He needs to stay in shape . (We met him and his pops at a milb game). Also historically no son and father have ever made the Hall. So history is not on his side. .... That kid Soto ,, has such a good eye . He will have a stunner of a career as long as he can stay healthy.
That's why I unloaded all mine before the season started. You were able to see ahead. Now I can buy all that stuff back on the cheap. I was selling the topps base for nine bucks a card. I sold more than 50 Wonder Franco's for between 7:50 and 9 bucks a card. I can buy them back now for half of that
Kyle Tucker surprised me, Astros brought him up a couple of times before his breakout year of 2020. He never looked impressive before 2020. I was thinking he was going to be a bust before that.
I always thought he was a stud but never got the playing time. I agree though I was afraid that he was going to be a true bust. I am glad he proved everyone wrong!
The first year I bought well over 100 Vlad Guerrero jr. Rookie cards. I spent $370. So far I have sold 22 of the cards for $300. I kept all the numbered cards. Plan on selling half more in 2023
I really like Veen. He has all the tools that could make him the next big prospect (same with Benny Montgomery). But he is raw still so we will need to see how he does in the next level of the minors.
Speaking of Zac Veen & Benny Montgomery. Both of them are in the Bowman's Best set as well as a handful of other '21 draft picks. MLB vets, rookies (RC logo), top prospects & draft picks are all included in a 100 card set. Beckett has already stated that (in their eyes) this product is the "rookie card " for the draft picks and for the "prospects" because they meet the criteria that has been used for decades. They will be listed as (RC's) in the price guide. The only difference will be that they won't have the rookie logo. Where do you stand on this?
Great list! I agree Soto is the man but unfortunately his cards are priced like he's already the next Mike Trout like so many young promising rookies are so while he's trending to be great I won't be buying many cards of his
I think that a lot of people are in the same boat as you. Soto's rare cards have really gone up in value with his hot second half. It doesn't help that Soto doesn't have as many sets or cards as the other young stars. Thanks for the thoughts.
R.A.N: Unfortunately for most of these guys their (rookie logo) rc's are considered rc's because they made their MLB debuts. That's why you see 20-30 (rc's) out there. I for one consider a player's 1st card in a public released set his RC. It is his 1st card after all. This is mainly either Bowman or Bowman Draft. Before anyone talks about them being ONLY prospects, look at how many guys have NBA or NFL cards and never make it on to the court or field.
Rookie cards vs prospect cards is an interesting situation that is only getting more confusing as more propsect sets are being produced. For me, I always have like rookie cards more. It is a player in his actual uniform and is playing actual games. Topps is making SO MANY new prospect sets though that it is starting to confuse a lot of collectors. I think first bowman autos are the go to buy and then to rookie cards are the next thing to target.
@@scottiebcards2354 Well moving forward the 1st bowman auto might be the go too card for now im just wonder if the base 1st bowman either paper or chrome is the same value is some of the RC.
Never understand why Devers is consistently overlooked in the hobby. Especially considering he plays in Boston, and people forget he’s still this young.
Mookie was overlooked when he was in Boston as well. Xander is overlooked in Boston for some reason too. I am not sure why that is the case, but I agree with Kyle that it doesn't help that he doesn't have a BC auto. A BC auto will always stand out to people when you think of a player. I also think it is because he is so bad defensively that he doesn't get the national respect that others do. Thanks for watching!
He is a great player but is pretty one dimensional. He only had .9 war and a .796 ops due to his non existent OBP. I think he could definitely get better as he ages, but he is already 25 so it makes it a little more risky of a pick.
If Acuna had never gotten hurt I would 100% agree with you. Since they are both hurt right now this year is a big to see who can establish that number two spot. Thanks for watching!
Great point Josh. I didn't really consider pitchers since it is so tough to predict them, but I should have at least had them on the honorable mentions page. Thanks for the thoughts!
Devers should be ahead of Albies, Tucker and Robert imo.. I could see Devers as a future HOF, don’t see the other guys that way at all.. maybe Bichette also but like him the best of the four
The only negative about Soto is most of his rookie cards are either mass produced or out of most people's price range. Panini has some good lower print choices but not licensed.
Yeah he doesn't have many sps, autos, or refractors. Those that exist though could potentially hold more value since they are so rare. It is tough to get into rare Soto. Thanks for the thoughts.
Scottie is pretty knowledgeable but very surprised by this video. These guys are already priced high and performing mainly just ok except Acuna. Soto was one of the most overvalued guys by far, unless his prices tanked like they should have. Acuna should be number 1 on this list and JRod #2. Jordan Walker should likely be on this list as well.
Hey! Thanks for watching! This video is almost 18 months old. My main rule was that the player had to have debuted so jrod and Jordan Walker weren’t options. It I did this video today it would be very different
I would agree with all but I’d replace Riley with Devers. I think Riley is just as good of a power hitter but I think his defense is better than Devers. I’ve not looked at defensive stats to compare them but just from watching them both I think Riley is a better defender. Great video.
I would rather replace Albies with Riley since I really like Devers long term, but I do not think you are wrong at all. Hopefully he has another big year this year!
Tatis is the clear No.1 IF the shoulder holds up and he cleans up the errors. Im definately not as worried about the shoulder as some are though. Hes had 4 months to physio and repair any damage, and the season isnt close yet. Besides, if he was missing months at a time I'd understand the concern, but he missed, what, 30 games?
Soto is the best hitter in the game right now. His plate approach and discipline is what HOF’ers are made of. Tatis is the most electric in the league and should be the face I think making him very sought after. Good time to buy right now while his prices are this low
@@scottiebcards2354 True, but by the same token it wasn't an issue at all in 2019 or 2020. Hes done the physio and has 6/7 months to rehab, so I'm personally not convinced its the deal breaker some people think it is.
240 out of 242! Come on devers 😅. I think Kyle tickets is probably the best one to buy on this list. Cheap and huge potential! Also juan soto barring injury should win an MVP next year dudes solid!
What I thought Austin Riley was great last year too wasn't he dark horse MVP candidate don't think people wld say that if he hadn't been good year before this one but idk you know more than me. I've invested in a rc of his tho. Sold that Goldschmidt I bought when you suggested got $50 fir it paid $20 also have the Bowman rc of his and bought another of his Topps rc
problem i think with Bo and Robert are unless you are getting sp versions of cards or autos the print runs for topps and bowman are way to high to retain value like previous year products
Acuna can't be that high anymore given his injury and Devers should be much higher. Straight swap with Bichette. I also think Riley has a much bigger hobby upside than Albies. There's certainly some great young talent around at the moment.
Thanks for the thoughts. I can see your arguments. I am still high on Acuna since his ceiling is so much higher than almost anyone else. Devers could be higher if he wasn't such a defensive liability. Hopefully he can Improve that part of his game.
@@scottiebcards2354 Agreed. If Acuna comes back well from his knee injury then he slots straight up in the top 3 with ease and with the possibility of being the number 2 guy. Granted Devers is ordinary defensively but he's a poor man's Vladdy when it comes to hitting and that's pretty good.
Lol, how do you "tie" Vlad and Wander? Bump Devers or Albies and pick one to keep it a list of 10. Eloy Jimenez honorable mention? I'd take him over either Albies or Devers. Those two are guys i won't even touch. I might think about Albies. Also consider Bryan Reynolds. He has been sneaky good. Very good actually. His defensive numbers look worse than he is. He succeeds on the "eye test" for great plays and ability- but he fails on positioning himself for more success. That's correctable. I have Vlad over Wander, if only because he has more time under his belt- but Wander is going to be awesome and could surpass Vlad. I just want to see another season before i give him the nod.
Not even an honorable mention for Gleyber Torres? He's 25 and coming off a bad year. People forgot what he did in his first couple years. He was up there right under Acuna and Soto. Switching back to his more comfortable 2B this year I know he will be back to star level just ad he finished last season
Mountcastle only had a 0.9 war last year and a .796 ops with a VERY low OBP. He was very poor defensively and is already 25. I think that he could have an excellent career but at this point he needs to work on his defense and then he will be at the top of this list again.
I love how high you are on Soto. He's a God tier hitter and when it's all said and done, will be a top 10 all time. I like the Albies, Devers and Tucker picks the most. I wish Albies would give up switch hitting, like Mullins did last year. He's a .340 hitter as a righty and .250 as a lefty, woof. Tatis won't hold up and Vlad has conditioning issues already, not good. Tucker is about to win the AL MVP this year. Mark my words. Also, good on you for not having any pitchers on the list though I think Logan Webb has a lot of variables needed to put together a great career but only time will tell.
Thanks Rick, I appreciate that! I agree with Albies stopping his switch hitting. I think that it could seriously improve his game. Also, Tucker is definitely someone that we need to watch as he could put up huge numbers soon. Thanks for watching and thanks for the thoughts!
To be fair, Acuna was far from a slow starter last season. He was the player of the month in April and was the clear MVP favorite after one month, for what that's worth. Defensively, he's better than everyone else in your Top 5.

Awesome. I hope that it turns out well for you 🤞. Thanks for watching!
You do a really good job of explaining what all the stats mean. Thanks for that.
I like it. Soto, Tatis, Vlad, Tucker are my current top 4. I’m probably higher on Tucker than I should be but considering how slow he started last year he had a solid season.
Definitely. I think he would be even higher if he was younger. If he has a hot start to this next season his cards could really spike!
Thanks for the Insight 0n these players great stuff. It looks like I'm on track.

Solid list. I even like your honorable mentions list. Lots of players I believe in too. Good job Scottie B.

As long as you still have the chance to put up Trout numbers, your cards will still trend upwards and hold value...but as soon as you start to show you might even just be a VERY solid player, but not all time great, your value will decline...Like you said, Arenado, Goldy, Freddie, Machado...and so on... very SOLID, but cards aren't even close to Acuna Soto Tatis Vlad....If those 4 keep putting up the numbers they are... and win a few MVPs...they'll trend up.
got a bichette topps chrome prism refractor psa 10 for 150 i think the hobby is going to see how under appreciated he is soon
I’ll take Witt jr
Plan on selling half more in 2023
Im just here for Scottie talking advanced Soto stats!!
Haha I could go on and on about Soto's metrics. Thanks for watching Kevin!
How do you feel about Zac Veen? I get he hasnt made his debut yet :)
The question I have for theses guys is has there 1st bowman chrome base surpass there RC which means should any one care about the base RC.
Not having a “first bowman auto” doesn’t do him any favors either. Definitely one of the most if not the best buy right now based on current prices
Thoughts on Mountcastle?
He is a great player but is pretty one dimensional. He only had .9 war and a .796 ops due to his non existent OBP. I think he could definitely get better as he ages, but he is already 25 so it makes it a little more risky of a pick.
My favorite also juan soto absolutely an amazing player.
another great video scottie b cards
Thank you for putting Soto #1 he is easily the best hitter in baseball
Of course. I think most people are starting to realize how dominate his ABs are. Thanks for watching!
Nice report…… but I like acuna over tatis …. Very informative yo!!!!!!
If Acuna had never gotten hurt I would 100% agree with you. Since they are both hurt right now this year is a big to see who can establish that number two spot. Thanks for watching!
New sub great channel good info what you think of Wander anyone?
Great list. Nice video!
Thank you!
Great video, new sub here.
I agree, but give me a pitcher that should be in this, i know the talent is there...., good video
Great point Josh. I didn't really consider pitchers since it is so tough to predict them, but I should have at least had them on the honorable mentions page. Thanks for the thoughts!
Nice info. I agree on #1
Thank you. Soto all the way!
Soto probably has the least amount of rookie cards overall
@@scottiebcards2354 wow how did I screw that up and not notice the timing. My bad man, keep up the good content
Again thank you.
@@bobbybaccala5126 Hes the best hitter, yes. Tatis is the best buy if hes not injured.
@@johnniejay yup I agree. People recognize his name in ever sport even if they don’t watch baseball. Good for the game
The big thing is the "if" with Tatis. He for sure could end up being the best player, but it all rests on that shoulder . Thanks for the thoughts!
@@scottiebcards2354 True, but by the same token it wasn't an issue at all in 2019 or 2020. Hes done the physio and has 6/7 months to rehab, so I'm personally not convinced its the deal breaker some people think it is.
I'd love to see your 20-11 list. That comment section would be fire!
I am sure I would make a lot of people angry haha. Thanks for watching!
You should have added Josh smith from the rangers to the list. The kid is going to be a stud.
Hey Cody, I didn't include prospects on this list so he wouldn't quite qualify. Thanks for watching.
240 out of 242! Come on devers 😅. I think Kyle tickets is probably the best one to buy on this list. Cheap and huge potential! Also juan soto barring injury should win an MVP next year dudes solid!
Agreed! Tucker seems like he could be a fantastic buy heading into next year. If he has another big year I could see his stuff really start to move!
Spot on!
Thanks Dennis!
I know prospects are speculation but Witt jr is as can’t miss as you can get
Yes by position top 10
Vladdy #1 for sure.
problem i think with Bo and Robert are unless you are getting sp versions of cards or autos the print runs for topps and bowman are way to high to retain value like previous year products
This is definitely something you have to consider when purchasing any cards from 2019 and on. Great point!
Agreed, I am afraid the same thing will happen to Wander Franco this next year. Thanks for the thoughts Robert.
Tatis Jr highest risk highest reward. My goodness he's so good but that damn shoulder.
Where do u value Ohtani at? Top 20? Top 30?
He's 27 years old so he wouldn't be on this list.
If Ohtani was young enough he would for sure be a top 2 on the list with Soto. Thanks for watching.
Scottie u need to be a scout. The SLC Bees 🐝 are calling!
😂 Thank you. That would be my dream job someday!
Hot Take! Because of the Wander Franco RC delay, he is single handedly going to be his own Junk Wax Era.
That’s why you but bowman 1st and not RC’s
I think you may be right and I HATE that it is going to be that way 😬
What about shohei
Shohei is 27 which takes him out of the running since this is 25 and younger. Thanks!
Yordon alvarez has burned me twice always getting hurt and his value drops hard.
Billy butler is my number 1
devers is the hottest ball player in my opinion...10 days in hit..in every game thus far
No bad sounds right
Not even an honorable mention for Gleyber Torres? He's 25 and coming off a bad year. People forgot what he did in his first couple years. He was up there right under Acuna and Soto. Switching back to his more comfortable 2B this year I know he will be back to star level just ad he finished last season
Ryan Mountcastle??
