    You see kids. That's the difference between REAL PARENTS mentalities, vs. modern day sperm donors and baby factories. REAL PARENTS don't mind caring about you, and watching your back. But THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS, and are not about to allow you to DISRESPECT THEM. Real Parents remind their children that the child is NOT their equal, and that there are LINES IN THE SAND which dare not be crossed!

    • @TheRivrPrncess
      @TheRivrPrncess 10 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Real parents are, indeed, friends of their children. The best friends they could ever have and that is the children should feel about their parents. Parents are not the kind of friends that peers are to the children. Peers will not give needed firm correction to a friend while a parent will. Peers often will not correct a friend for fear of losing him/her as a friend. Parents, while not giving counsel in a harsh or unloving way do not fear losing their children's friendship. The know that even if the child gets angry, that doesn't matter because the parents will always care for and love them and they do not give up believing that the child will someday come to realize that the parents have more experience in life and were right about the matter.

    • @mindphreak4money
      @mindphreak4money 10 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      ***** A friend implies equals. The person that a child hangs out with by the school locker, is their friend. A child can call their friend on a first name basis. And that's one of the many problems with modern society. Parents who are birthing their children at a young age, still remember what it was like when they were children themselves. So they identify their lives, through the eyes of their children's age group. That's why you see parents wearing the same clothing styles, as their teenage children. When a 40 year old, is trying to compete in the fashion world, with their 18 year old child, then that's a problem. A parent is supposed to be their child's window into what the world is going to be like, when that offspring evolves into adult hood. A parent can be loving and caring. But they should NEVER allow their child to mistake caring for friendship.

    • @TheRivrPrncess
      @TheRivrPrncess 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A friend implies equals? What about a principal of a school being friends with the vice-principle or the secretary? Or a boss being friends with an employee? None of these people are equals. But they can still be friends.

    • @mindphreak4money
      @mindphreak4money 10 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      ***** The interesting part, is that you actually believe that. How can one be "friends" with a societal superior? There is a hierarchy that exists with a principal and a vice principal. Or a boss and their employee. If the boss doesn't pay the employee, or fires the employee, are they still going to be "friends"?

    • @TheRivrPrncess
      @TheRivrPrncess 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A person can be "friends" with a societal superior by respecting that superior's position the same way the superior respects the one who is not superior. Friendship is about respecting the position of each other. Are there not understandable reasons why a boss would not pay an employee? And if the employer and employee are friends, the employee would show understanding. The same if the employee got fired. If it is because the employee did not do what is right he would understand it had to be done if he is a true friend of the employer. Maybe he would, at first that is true, but the friendship will help him to understand.

    • @MidnightRose.
      @MidnightRose. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Nowadays we have “adults” saying that teenagers should have the right to buy whatever they please because it’s their money that they earned, even if the parent doesn’t agree with it. Parents don’t even have the right to ground their teens from something that they bought just because THEY bought it with THEIR money.
      Personally I don’t care what anyone says, if my kid buys something I told them they were not allowed to purchase, it will be gone. Just because they have their own money now doesn’t give them the right to spend it on whatever, and it certainly doesn’t mean that they legally own it. Until they are 18, I - as their parent - will have control over what they do or don’t buy.

    Most white kids on TV would’ve said “ "whatever” and ran upstairs and slammed the door. THIS scene is how a real parent works. Say what u want bout Cosby but one thing bout his show, the kids NEVER ran that house. Claire and Cliff were definitely the heads of the household. When Cosby was putting this show 2gether. The first thing he said was : “this won’t be the type of show where the kids run daddy and daddy is the goofy dad who doesn’t know what’s goin and they gotta get dad out of a jam”

      This is why I prefer older family sitcom shows that I grew up with, like the Cosby Show. I looked forward to it every week, although my memories of originally watching it are hazy given my age (I know I was watching it early on, though, cause of my mother and grandmother and I do remember some from when they originally aired, like the Stevie Wonder ep, the juicer ep, the ep with the Muppets, and the one with Rudy's field trip to the theater).
      Claire reminded me of a real mother and parent because my mother was like that. I knew my boundaries, I respected her and dad and my elders, etc. My parents actually told me when I turned 18 that them buying me things like video games for Christmas was now over. I had to go out and earn it myself, which was fair.
      With shows now, kids and parents' dynamics just feel so off to me. Parents seem like friends and let the kids get a way with talking rudely to them, talking back, using inappropriate language in front of them and to them, etc., but the parents talk kind of like that in front of them too. There doesn't seem to be a real distinction between parent and child these days outside of age. I can give shows a pass if the family is portrayed as being dysfunctional, like the Bundys or the Malcolm in the Middle family or even Roseanne, but with most shows now, I just can't. Kids have too much control these days...

    Here is why I feel this show is no longer on, parenting 101. Nothing wrong with allowing your children to freely express themselves, but when you cross the line there are consequences! Claire Huxtable is one of my sitcom heroes (I'm a man) because she did this with all those kids. My real mother when dying asked did we think she was hard raising us, through our tears we emphatically said no because of her results - responsible and respectful people, something we hope our children will appreciate!

If it were me, I would've said, "no, no. America is outside of this house. This is Huxtable Hovel; I am the Queen of this hovel. As long as you are under 18, I have a final say on where the money in your account goes, and if you EVER question my authority again, you can take whatever finances you have and see if you can LIVE that 'American' dream."
