I can't find an English translation of the lyrics but l did find an article about the stunning library in Riga which is built like a castle of light and explains the significance of the title. "In Latvian Literature and Folklore, a “castle of light” is a metaphor for lost wisdom that can be reclaimed after the people overcome the symbolic darkness of war, invasion, and occupation. It comes from an old legend in which a mystical castle symbolizing culture and knowledge sinks in a lake but will one day be rebuilt."
The most beautiful thing was when I looked at the audience and they were photographing. It looked like there were people turning into stars. It was truly marvelous.
The song was writen in the 19th senctury and it is about how a perfect place (Latvia, a country that didn't officially exist then) will have problems and that people killed heroes and nobody deserved that, but if we are strong together, we can fix the castle of light (symbolic) and stay strong together. Also, this song was singen even when the russians came to send out the people to Siberea, but they stayed there to finish the song because it ment so much to them! A lot of people died there, but they loved their country so they basicly sacrificed themselves...
love it! I don't understand Latvian. I am British. Was lead here by a very proud Latvian. A quirky one but fun none the less, and am happy to have shared in the cultural/historical magnificance!

Šis ir jāizbauda uz savas ādas, būt tajā lielajā korī, kas beigās dzied šīs spēcīgās dziesmas! Es šajos Dziesmu Svētkos piedalījos, un tās emocijas ir vienkārši neaprakstāmas!
stāvēt tur, starp tiem tūkstošiem dziedātāju, dziedāt Kokara vadībā vienu no spēcīgākajām latviešu dziesmām bija skaistākais un saviļņojošākais mirklis manā mūžā. tagad skatoties, kas notiek mūsu valstī un atceroties šo, tas ir vienīgais iemesls, kāpēc jūtos lepna, ka esmu latviete.
Es domāju, ka tas ir ieraksta jautājums. Pārsvarā visur dzird soprānus vai altus, vīriešus gandrīz nemaz nedzird. Es pats esmu dziedājis Dziesmu svētkos vairākas reizes, tenors. Tenori un basi tiešām nav sliktāki par soprāniem vai altiem.
Mijn vrouw en ik waren op dat moment ook in Riga; konden helaas niet aan kaarten voor het slotconcert komen( verkoop via internet was een ramp; binnen 3 minuten de servers gecrashed vanwege overweldigende belangstelling); heb we de finale van "Kou Kari"live meegemaakt in de aula van de universiteit; 4 uur op het puntje van mijn stoel gezeten, grandioos en zinderend spannend!

Mani tā saviļņoja piedalīšanās aizpagājušās vasaras dziesmu svētkos (kaut arī dziedāju tikai 2 dziesmas) ka es esmu tik laimīga ka man būs iespēja piedalities nākamvasar dziesmu svētkos! un vēl - nolēmu ka nekad un nekādā gadījumā nepārtraukšu dziedāt koros!
Bet par tulkojumu - castle nav īstais vārds, drīzāk Palace of Light.-----------------------------------------ja mēs raugāmies no vēsturiskā rakursa, tad drīzāk tomēr ''castle'', jo ''palace'' vēsturiski bija valdnieku rezidences un viduslaiku nocietinātas vietas bija ''castle''. Nez vai Gaismas Pils ir palace šajā nozīmē
pilnīgi piekrītu, palace ir pils uz ko tiekties daudzās kultūrās, castle ir cietoksnis, nošķirts, pēdējais patvērums. manuprāt. dziesmas jēga ir par tiekšanos uz pili, nevis patvērumu cietoksnī
Jo liberāļi vairāk domā ar savām jūtām, nekā ar loģisko domāšanu. Viņi apsēsti ar civiltiesībām un minoritātēm, tādā veidā aizmirstot par būtisko. Kā arī vairākums esot pret nacionālismu.

Otrkārt, mani aizvainoja fakts, ka tu vārdu "gejs" izmanto kā lamuvārdu, kas tev ir pret gejiem. Vai tu uzskati, ka valdībai būtu jāskatās ar ko cilvēks guļ vai ne?

Tiešām viena no visspēcīgākajām dziesmām Latvijas vēsturē. Ja tiešām iedziļinās tās nozīmē un vēsturē, pa tiešām sirdi plosoša dziemsa.
Pati biju šajos dziesmusvētkos, un teikšu, ka šie svētki patiešām vieno visus latviešus. Pats iespaidīgākais pasākums manā dzīvē!

Allemal willien naar de concert, dus worden de tickets in minuten verkocht.

Ir īstais vārds. Es ieteiktu tev tomēr nopirkt vārdnīcu, nevis desu, un izlasīt, kas ir castle un kas ir palace.
