My copy came today. Managed to get it for 39€, which is a price, I can get behind for this game. Just started Tsubasa's campaign and expect to get my ass kicked, because I've never bought a football game til now.

The most important thing is that people need to know that you're not getting a FIFA game with super moves, you're getting a more limited arcade feel that is based on stats and stamina usage. If you get that out of the way, you will enjoy the game much more. Personally, I am not much of a football fan so having this outrageous game is right in my alley. I love it! And to be honest, having games like this should be supported so we get more similar or improved ones.
SUPER CAMPEONES!!! I spent many summers in South America as a child and this anime was absolutely GIGANTIC. So many fans and for me many fond memories of pretending to kick super shots with my cousins in the yard. Looks like a fun game! Thanks for bring back those memories!
I’m a huge fan of the manga and anime so I was gonna buy this game regardless, but hearing all these good comments of the game really got me hype. My only negative is that it doesn’t include the last few Arcs of the manga in the game and we are missing a lot of older and cool teams but oh well maybe next time
Got this game on release and I'm really enjoying it up until now. I just thought all the different Specials between certain characters got a little too much to remember, especially since I don't know these characters as I never really watched the Anime. Also the game seems not as smooth as I wished in the performance department compared to the PS4 version. Nice review as always! Still one of the best Switch related channels out there in my opinion! Your reviews always feel like they are seen from a gamers perspective which sites like IGN seem to lack because their reviews feel almost automated and they just seem to check boxes on their list of game-aspects-to-review.
If you want to remember the moves, go to a character in the menu and press triangle to see his details. You will see what skills each character has. Being familiar with the manga actually helps a lot though. I know that Nitta, for example, is really fast, so I use him a specific way.

Yeah man Idk if you’ve had this same thing happen but I feel like after I’ve had to retry the same match a few times in the campaign, the frame rate for further attempts gets choppier and choppier
Zachary Goligoski yeah I’m with you the AI kicks my ass sometimes or I just gotta “git gud” and every time I end up replaying the same match it gets noticeably choppier I’m really holding out hope that there will be an update soon that will address some of the frame rate
This particular story-based game doesn’t look like my thing but holy crap I’d love to play a football or hockey game with an anime power up style like this and no official licensing with a full team creation mode! That would be a ton more fun than EA’s titles like Madden.
I think people are missing out on what actually goes on mechanically. The game is not really arcade, it's more of an RPG like the previous Captain Tsubasa games. Each character has a set of passives/skills and learning about them will add a lot of value to how you play the game. The tactics also add to the game's depth and people are missing out on that. If you go in expecting an arcade game, you will be disappointed, but if you go in expecting an RPG soccer with arcade elements, like I did since I'm familiar with the franchise, then you will enjoy it definitely.
That actually makes sense. Looking at the gameplay I was sort of disappointed as it didn't really look like an arcade game, and it certainly didn't look like a simulation. If it's really a lite action RPG mixed with a basic soccer/football game you may have just put me firmly in the 'buy it' camp. I hate sports, don't watch them at all. They change a lot but the common RPG element seems like a constant with this game series. Here's Captain Tsubasa 2 on Famicom which is probably one of the more famous entries in the series. It's not based on any particular arc from the manga, but it acted as a sequel to the manga when it didn't have a sequel yet at the time. After all these years playing only fifa and/or pes i have to say playing this is fun AF, though it feels more like a fighting game on a Football field... also i think this is for the fans of the series, playing with these characters is what makes it special.

I got it physically for $20 on Black Friday. Enjoying it so far! Never heard of show, found 2018 anime and checking it out now. The game did a good job with background of characters with the movies and whatnot being that I didn’t know anything.

Just watched yours mate. Yeah, very similar views. I had it scored a little lower but the online play and custom modes ultimately pulled it up a bit more. My biggest issue is that it's not frenetic enough to be an arcade style football game but isn't a simulation either. It's in a 'no man's land' in between. Decent but an acquired taste. Glen
SwitchUp Yea definitely, maybe for casual football fans it will be enough, but i did find myself wanting more control over things.Bit annoying like in the Tanabachi match, you are guaranteed to basically start a goal down as they always score that cut scene goal. Why is it that Globku seems to be the only reviewer that actually goes very in-depth in the gameplay mechanics? Every other review I've seen undersells the gameplay. This review wasn't bad, but I feel like Globku's review just did a much better job explaining the game mechanics.
Agree, most of reviewers didn’t really get the core of the gameplay and started complaining. To me, this is the 2nd most enjoyable Captain Tsubasa game only next to CT2 on Nes. And yes, I strongly recommend people watch Globku’s review before considering the purchase.
1 thing he touched on about shooting, i donagree that you dont score nearly enough with a regular shot. Especially when the goalies spirit is low. Feels like regular shot is nearly useless

Does the local multiplayer have the cutscenes? This will be my deciding feature (i dont want it) i have no interest in the story and have been looking for an arcade style footy game like taito/super cup finals for decades
Nice review, glen. Youre right. This is not a football game. Its an "anime football" game. You basically play with only 1 or 2 players per team. They are overrated and you should use it like an advantage, just like on the anime. As a big fan of the series since I was a kid, im loving the game so far. For people who doesnt know the anime/manga, it can be kinda weird. Its not a perfect game. But for fans, its a must buy. For non fans, wait for a sale if gameplay looks interesting for you. On a tech side, gameplay its around 25 fps... Its not as bad as it sounds.. You can play no problem... But it could be better. There are no lag spikes or stutters whatsoever. I hope I can challenge Gleninho on an online match. Hahaha.

alright after watching the video I will definitely be waiting for a sale and hopefully I can find it physical on ps4, I feel as tho I'll get the most out of the story mode as I'm a fan of the anime/manga, ultimately I think I will have to actually play it to tell if I will like the gameplay but I can't see myself hating it, hopfully sometime soon we get a new inazuma eleven release as I really enjoyed the first game on the ds, thanks for the great video! seems like I would get some good fun out of this game!

Having played the original Captain Tsubasa on NES which was a turn based football RPG i can say that they have done a lot better with this game... Another similar game I played on SNES emulator is aoki dentsetu shoot out 3 which is pretty similar to this one in gameplay... I am pretty happy with the gameplay with a few quirks here and there but overall it captures the spirit of anime pretty well although I never actually got into it that much... Nice Review as usual...
I have to give Bandai Namco full credit, they made a awesome-tacular football and/or soccer game than the recent modern day releases of FIFA by EA Sports and E-Football (AKA PES Pro Evolution Soccer) that’s for sure. I can’t wait to check it out since I got the Digital Deluxe Edition with all the DLC included on sale a little over the $20 range but take it down near the $5 range with the gold coin that I had.
You should play Captain Tsubasa Dream Team on mobile if you want that. in fact, Inazuma Eleven games were inspired by Captain Tsubasa games in the first place.

How many online matches have you played? Cos the first division will have you play against CPU, before matching you to real players. Did you experience playing against actual online players on Switch? Online is kinda gonna be my main reason to play.

This is exactly how Tsubasa Soccer games played since super famicom days. You haven't played the series from the beginning or read the manga to appreciate any of this. Stop comparing the game to FIFA style of game.

After watching the review I’ve decided to pass on the game. The Japanese voice overs only I feel would take away the experience of the game because I wouldn’t know what was being said. Also if the main football mechanic is off putting to the reviewer then that’s a sign as well. To those who are getting the game I hope you really do enjoy it

The Captain Tsubasa game franchise is primarily known as a soccer RPG series which it pioneered in 1988 with the first game released on the Famicom simply titled Captain Tsubasa. I know they advertised it as an arcade game, but every Captain Tsubasa game I've played so far heavily involved an element of RPG that is simply is not found in other soccer games so it's not exactly as advertised. That's the uniqueness of it. Whether you win or lose a duel, for example, is heavily reliant on the character you have.
@@kaidorade1317 What I mean by RPG is that your characters own stats and skills determine a lot of the encounters. If you pair two characters who are known to play well together (according to the manga), then you activate a passive where you get an additional boost on both characters' speed etc. If you do a dribble, what you get as a bonus for a few seconds will depend on which character you're controlling. RONC doesn't show this RPG aspect as much as some other games in the series since it has more arcadey elements, but it's still there. And if you're not sure, then go ahead and play Captain Tsubasa 2 on Famicom using an emulator. @@Ponaru I played for 7 years. Obviously I'm talking about the physicality of directing a ball, not the strategic elements (such as offsides, corner kicks, etc.). "simulation" soccer games always feel fake because you're not actually controlling the ball. You are pressing a button, and watching an animation.

Nice review, glen. Youre right. This is not a football game. Its an "anime football" game. You basically play with only 1 or 2 players per team. They are overrated and you should use it like an advantage, just like on the anime. As a big fan of the series since I was a kid, im loving the game so far. For people who doesnt know the anime/manga, it can be kinda weird.
Its not a perfect game. But for fans, its a must buy. For non fans, wait for a sale if gameplay looks interesting for you.
On a tech side, gameplay its around 25 fps... Its not as bad as it sounds.. You can play no problem... But it could be better. There are no lag spikes or stutters whatsoever.
I hope I can challenge Gleninho on an online match. Hahaha.

alright after watching the video I will definitely be waiting for a sale and hopefully I can find it physical on ps4, I feel as tho I'll get the most out of the story mode as I'm a fan of the anime/manga, ultimately I think I will have to actually play it to tell if I will like the gameplay but I can't see myself hating it, hopfully sometime soon we get a new inazuma eleven release as I really enjoyed the first game on the ds, thanks for the great video! seems like I would get some good fun out of this game!

Having played the original Captain Tsubasa on NES which was a turn based football RPG i can say that they have done a lot better with this game... Another similar game I played on SNES emulator is aoki dentsetu shoot out 3 which is pretty similar to this one in gameplay... I am pretty happy with the gameplay with a few quirks here and there but overall it captures the spirit of anime pretty well although I never actually got into it that much... Nice Review as usual...

I have to give Bandai Namco full credit, they made a awesome-tacular football and/or soccer game than the recent modern day releases of FIFA by EA Sports and E-Football (AKA PES Pro Evolution Soccer) that’s for sure. I can’t wait to check it out since I got the Digital Deluxe Edition with all the DLC included on sale a little over the $20 range but take it down near the $5 range with the gold coin that I had.

How many online matches have you played? Cos the first division will have you play against CPU, before matching you to real players. Did you experience playing against actual online players on Switch? Online is kinda gonna be my main reason to play.

After watching the review I’ve decided to pass on the game. The Japanese voice overs only I feel would take away the experience of the game because I wouldn’t know what was being said. The Captain Tsubasa game franchise is primarily known as a soccer RPG series which it pioneered in 1988 with the first game released on the Famicom simply titled Captain Tsubasa. I know they advertised it as an arcade game, but every Captain Tsubasa game I've played so far heavily involved an element of RPG that is simply is not found in other soccer games so it's not exactly as advertised. That's the uniqueness of it. Whether you win or lose a duel, for example, is heavily reliant on the character you have.

@@kaidorade1317 What I mean by RPG is that your characters own stats and skills determine a lot of the encounters. If you pair two characters who are known to play well together (according to the manga), then you activate a passive where you get an additional boost on both characters' speed etc. If you do a dribble, what you get as a bonus for a few seconds will depend on which character you're controlling. RONC doesn't show this RPG aspect as much as some other games in the series since it has more arcadey elements, but it's still there.
And if you're not sure, then go ahead and play Captain Tsubasa 2 on Famicom using an emulator. The game still holds up pretty well and is pretty fun despite the old graphics.

"simulation" soccer games always feel fake because you're not actually controlling the ball. You are pressing a button, and watching an animation.
