Stephen King has had a huge impact in pop culture just like Bob Dylan had it on the American song. His books have had multiple movie adaptations, and some of those have become some of the most influential films of all time. If not for the quality of his prose (which is debatable) his legacy deserves recognition.
Shakespeare & Ben Jonson would have laughed at Bloom. Milton would have loathed Bloom & Bloom would have had Milton reconsidering free speech. King has it all: craft, art, intelligence, & he knows how to have a good time while tackling difficult subject matter. He's a genius.
This was an excellent and highly thought provoking video. You did a good job of weighing the pros and cons. It's just one person's opinion, but in view of the fact that the award is for lifetime achievement in a field that seeks to entertain as well as inform, King should be strongly considered.
Hearts in Atlantis, Stand by me (The body),The green mile and many more epic stories besides being the best horror/mystery writer in the world, King is a master of describing enviroments and characters. I think he actually DO deserve the Nobel Prize.
People don't want to be nominated for NPs anymore. They've become a booby prize. Getting one is an affirmation that you have no talent or youre not actually good at what you've been nominated for. King should definitely get one.
Bob Dylan changed so much, and I was happy when he got it. It is a big body of work and influence on at least all western culture. There is so much in his writing, and it's still so inspiring that all popular music today has had an effect from it. I did not like how you compared King and Dylan after you said we should not compare them, like to make a point that Dylan is not that great. But there is a universal effect of King also in all popular culture, but I'm not sure what the criteria are to get a Nobel I'm not sure if popular horror fiction helps humanity, or what are we looking at? It's hard to take many seriously today when the criteria or perspective is always competition or money. Trump has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, four times.

"I am ecstatic that Bob Dylan has won the Nobel. A great and good thing in a season of sleaze and sadness." - @Stephen King - 13/Oct/2016 Maybe it is time someone asks him if he wants to win it.
If he wins it, the Prize would become even more insignificant than it already is. Excellent video...and I'm a King fan. Only problem is his work is a mile wide and an inch deep.
Chekhov, Proust, Joyce, Woolf, Kafka, and Storni were nowhere near the Nobel Prize in Literature because they were never nominated in the first place. Search the Nobel nomination archive. If they were nominated, they will be included in the committee's deliberations and earn chances of winning. Before naming famous literary figures who never got the prize, try researching first why.
Who cares about Nobel prizes when you have a vast fame worldwide? 🤷🏻♂️ His impact on some basic areas of literature is obvious whether some people like it or not!
Like most "prizes" and "awards", they are kind of useless and self-serving. I will say though, all of the winners deserve their recognition as a nod to their success, but there are many many more who may deserve equell accolades. I think the Nobel is best for science, where there is no debate about "concrete" positive contributions to humanity.
@@funstuff4262 What's snobbish about that? He just values good books and has standards. King is diabolical. The literary equivalent of stale bread. It's great that some people can see this but a shame that some cannot.
So I took a class on the Nobel Prize when I was in college. One of the assignments was to write a nomination letter. I chose to nominate Stephen King for the prize in Literature. I hope one day King’s being awarded the prize actually happens.

Stephen King wrote many books, but pulp books and trashy. You have no idea about literature. Popular pulp books never get any literery award. Pls D W channel produced a outrated document.

He deserves to take that prize!
Not a single screenplay has won a Nobel Prize, yet screenplays are more influential than novels, plays, or poetry.
