It’s a locking diopter because you’re supposed to set the binos to your eyes when you first get them. then you use the focus knob for glassing at different distances. First time I’ve ever heard of someone adjusting the diopter while glassing. The diopter only adjusts for one side so every time you move that you’re only adjusting it for one eye, seems like it would be hard on your eyes

Yeah I know that in most cases I leave it alone however in different lighting my right eye gets a little blurry. Like staring or glassing towards the sunset or if it's just barley foggy or things like that So I adjust the diopter which i know isn't traditional way of doing it. But it seems to work for me pretty well

I do not have either one of the binos you reviewed. However, I do have a Midas 12x50 G2 UHD and totally happy with it. I have personally tested my binos against the Razor HD and others in the $700-1,000 range and it was neck-n-neck quality wise. The only ones that looked better were the Razor UHD and the $2,500-$3,500 Alpha glass. For what I paid for mine ($350) I have zero complaints. I do want to try the Cronus though.

I have been using the razors almost every day for the last few months and I'll tell ya what. The athlon cronus are still unbeatable. I absolutely love athlon products

@@ramzeygardiner8838 Based on my personal experience, my next purchase, a spotting scope will be an Athlon product too. I am not sure if it will be an Ares or a Cronus. I wish there was a place to test them before I buy.

The Athlon Midas UHD Gen 2 12x50 are excellent for way cheaper than the Leupold BX-4s with a wider FOV but during extend periods of glassing sessions the Athlon gives me some eye fatigue vs the way cheaper but far superior ScoopX UHDs and Japan made Leupold BX4s which I also bought to compare with the Midas, Cronus UHD Gen 2 and dirt cheap $55 - $65 eBay ScoopX UHD 10x42s.
I'd suggest trying the ScoopX UHDs from eBay for $55 - $65 and the Cronus UHD Gen 2 from a return friendly dealer at the same time because my eyes definitely did't get along well with the first two Athlon Cronus UHD Gen 2s and I've ordered my third one already awaiting delivery sometime next week.
This is in fact the second instance my eyes simply don't like Athlons glass while the other is the Ares ETR 3-18x50 makes me really dizzy and nauseated looking through them on their lower magnification just like the Cronus UHD Gen 2 Binoculars and I bought two of them with both equally dizzying to look through. Third Cronus UHD Gen 2 delivery probably mid next week. Hopefully the third time's a charm because I really like Athlon brand.
I also noticed when adjusting the Cronus UHD Gen 2s central push button diopter, the focus also moves which is extremely annoying.
Also check your Cronus UHD Gen 2 to make sure they actually have serial numbers not an empty rectangular recessed indentation where the serial numbers belong. Unsure if they actually have any warranty through Athlon without any serial numbers and purchased one of the Cronus UHD Gen 2 for dirt cheap from an eBay seller for $299 described as new but even the serial numbers on the backside of the Athlon factory box were obviously removed as well . Someone likely used an adhesive tape to pull the ink off so what's left is a rough white spot where the Athlon factory matching serial number sticker used to be. All my other Athlon brand products have serial numbers except the Cronus UHD Gen 2 I bought from eBay for dirt cheap $299. Some other eBay sellers sell them for as cheap as $250 so I learned my lesson the hard way so I bought my third one from elsewhere.
Check all of your Athlon products to make damn sure they got serial numbers on them.
The ScoopX UHD is just like a Midas UHD Gen 2 with much better clearer and brighter glass and has added field flatteners and lighter than the Cronus UHD Gen 2 and won't make you feel dizzy.

@commonsense5709 one thing I don't like about the vortex razors is the eye cups. I've been using them in the heat and what not and they start to rub and irritate my eyebrows. Unlike the cronus. I love the comfort of the the cronus even if I get eye fatigue after hours of glossing
