    The day you play like Matt Greiner... Then you can give him advice... Clearly he is not worried about tiring out anyway

    It's crazy how you can tell he is tired in this. It really makes you see how incredible he is in all of his other performances and how much life he gives when he drums.

    this was their first show out of the studio, you can't be a natural, everything takes practice. I was thinking the same thing though before your comment so I would say your right.

    probably just one of those off nights, we all have them. Some gigs I play tight as a badgers backside and super relaxed, other nights it's like I'm struggling to hold a 4/4 rock beat down, it happens.

    Just look at Matt. The physical state he is in i don't think it matters. He manages to play every show like this and kills it every time. I wouldn't ask him to change it just because he's comfortable like that :)

    after reading the comment about him being rusty I expected rustiness but I thought he looked great here.. had a few hickups but damn playing this song is hard enough by itself let alone playing a full set.. also about the arm thing he plays with his arms because he can and if you ever see him pick up the speed he uses his wrists when he needs to to go faster but when a song is a certain tempo he can get away with using his arms and gets more power out of it.. BEAST

  • @ojooioio
    @ojooioio 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Greiner's left arm has been mostly arm. Look up that old video of them in highschool with their original singer. He is a stiff player but it didn't stop him.

    @GabrielXDrums 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These comments suck but anyways I had a personal lesson with him AND Adam a few years back and have them on video, about an hours worth, close to it, discussing all sorts of techniques and one of the main ones they spoke about was fingers during blasting and muscle memory for harder parts so trust me when I say that they know how to conserve and use their energy for what sections they themselves write/wrote.
    Peace!

  • @DanielJerrehian
    @DanielJerrehian 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think originally the kit was set up correctly, but as he played the set, the stand moved, and began to hit the boom. In the studio they would make sure that would never happen, because in the studio, everything must be in order for a perfect recording. There is no time him to move the stand to the correct adjustment, if he even notices.. It did not affect the sound of the band, because it is live, and no one would notice it in this situation.

  • @NocturneVl
    @NocturneVl 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    i think at that blast beat he had got all his hand muscule locked...so he used every muscle that was less used which were in his arms...muscle locking happen to me every gig from all the effort im puting in and it gets to the point where u can no longer use your hands as fast as u could and every hit is harder to make

    • @burgundybear8761
      @burgundybear8761 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He is Matt Greiner. He can use his toes to blast if he wants to. Please don't compare yourself to him lol. He faced the problem you are facing and overcame it a long time ago brah.

  • @CalebYounggg
    @CalebYounggg 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    blast beats are basically 16th notes using snare, kick, and cymbal(usually ride, bell, or hihat) at really fast tempos. in this video, just look for the fastest beats. haha.

  • @spinachdipminiatures
    @spinachdipminiatures 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Using arms does nothing to hurt your speed if that is what you have worked your chops by. However, the main reason to stay away from using arms while drumming is that it can lead to joint pain in the elbows and even tendonitis. Note: This takes years of playing like this to get to that point, but it is still a nice preventative measure to play from the wrist

  • @iMatty_2
    @iMatty_2 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is no bad technique. Its a technique that works for HIM.

  • @MelodiicDeath
    @MelodiicDeath 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dont think Truth A Liar is one of their most technically harder songs, since it is one of their older songs. its also his first show of the tour as jake says in the beginning, but it could be possible.

  • @Fr1h0l3
    @Fr1h0l3 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agreed. He seemed to be really struggling to keep up on some of his more chop demanding single stroke fills, both on the snare and bass.

  • @jessebowles5632
    @jessebowles5632 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    ,,, can you give me an example of how he looks rusty? I think it was spot on and he improvised a few of his own fills since he created the song in the first place. I,m happy with the video, thought it was spot on

  • @AssassinFrogg
    @AssassinFrogg 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I noticed it too.. He wasn't as quick to get back on beats after a fill as he usually is, and his left hand definitely seemed weak while playing that beat towards the end.

  • @beatsrus01
    @beatsrus01 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's easier to do I mid speed bomb blast by using a bit more arm because your feet are playing twice as fast as your unison hands are, and their following the hands. His technique is impeccable he just knows when to use wrist or fingers and when to use arm. It obviously has worked for him too

  • @DDrummr41

  • @iMatty_2
    @iMatty_2 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't use all arm, I use wrist. But this is honestly the only video I've seen Matt use arm. Any studio videos I see, or many other live videos, He's using wrist. He was probably just doing it for shits and giggles.

  • @kevinkraftable
    @kevinkraftable 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    He actually does this to save his wrist. Plus if you can use your arms to do this...you can only just ADD the wrist along with it....getting even faster than drummers who only use wrists. His technique is much more difficult. He has been playing for years.

  • @metaldrummer4444
    @metaldrummer4444 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I look through these comments and see everyone trashing him, he's one of the better drummers playing today. His creativity when he writes his parts is great, and his technical skill is better than most as well. Who cares about his arms or his fingers or his wrists or his toenails or his butthole or whatever you want to nitpick at, bottom line, hes better than you, and we know it

    dude this was right after two months of writing the most technical and physical demanding stuff he has made to date. he even said that he played until he was physically sick and had a rash show up on his thighs from playing. so be careful who you call "rusty" and until you can prove that you can play better than him you should keep those kind of comments to your self...and everybody is human we screw up don't point it out when someone your jealous of screws up it just makes you look like a jerk.

  • @iKickChickenzz
    @iKickChickenzz 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just saying, using your wrists for blasting is far more efficient than using your arms. Example, you use your ankles when trying to go faster on the kicks, you don't see drummers teaching you to use your legs when trying to gain speed.

  • @Haendrummer
    @Haendrummer 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually when you play blast beats you have to use your wrists or fingers, those are two methods that you can learn and have to learn.
    Using your arms is not wrong but it isn't also right, you can NEVER go fast and smooth as with your wrists or fingers.

    You can actually use your entire arm to get more power/control. Fingers, wrists, forearm, elbow, and upper arm.

  • @DanielHodson7
    @DanielHodson7 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're right about whats seen as 'better technique' all in the wrists, etc.
    But have you thought about performance? If he can play that technically with that much enthusiasm, why wouldn't you? He's putting on a show! Not playing in his bedroom.

  • @yanksrule5502
    @yanksrule5502 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    dude thats the most backwards thing ive ever heard about drumming. you use wrist to save you're arm, not the other way around. every stroke comes from the wrist and the only time you add arm is when you are going for louder dynamics like fortissimo. you can also use arm for buzz rolls but other than those two reasons it all comes from the wrist
