This self insert is 100% real. I played and finished Spiderman 2. The way Mary Jane was shoehorned in to be essentially the third main character was extremely off putting to me. Mainly because it felt completely unearned. She didn't have powers, training or really any reason to be a complete badass. She never needed to be saved but saves others of course. She randomly was 007. All I can say is I now understand what happened. Not only did this writer put her face on MJ, but she wrote MJ to be a Mary Sue that was meant to be her...

Max Payne is how you do a Self Insert. They lacked budget and didn’t have money to use actors so the developers used their families and friends for the cutscenes and faces for the enemies.

MJ, as a character, was always portrayed as the modelesque girl next door that is WAY out of your league type of female. Peter Parker was always an awkward geek. When he wins her over it's like ever geek around the world celebrating this dream they all have of someone they know. That's why that story concept has endured for so long. People don't seem to know the history of the comic book Spider-Man. MJ was the incredibly hot foil in a love triangle with Gwen Stacy. MJ was jealous of Gwen; MJ was also a troublemaker, and she dated Harry as a way to be close to Peter; she was implied to have a crush on him, and later shown to be in love with Peter from the time they first met (she also knew that he was Spider-Man from before they met). The idea that Peter is only a "geek" in the comics belies what Stan Lee and John Romita did when Pete went to college; he became a good looking, cool guy that women were interested in. As time went on, Stan Lee decided that MJ was meant for Peter rather than Gwen. Which is why Gwen was killed by Osborn. But this idea that Peter was meant to exemplify a geek's romantic dreams, is something that ignores how much Peter changed in the comics of the late 60s and into the 70s. The Peter Parker that Romita presented was not that way. Saying that he was, or that Todd McFarlane's version of Peter was "a geek," is as inaccurate as presenting Mary Jane as an unattractive woman. He was very good looking, post-Romita (certainly Todd often presented this), and Mary Jane was, well, amazing looking.

Honestly Ben Jordan looks fine as Peter Parker, the problem is that John Bubniak face is perfect and any "facial mocap" improvement is not worth changing the face over (most likely payment contract issue tho), and if i really had to defend this peter's new face, at least in this game it looks more like undoctored Ben Jordan's face than in spiderman remastered where it looks like they tried their hardest to make Ben Jordan face as close as they could to make it look like Tom Holland. It really prevented what could've been the perfect Spidey game, the combat, traversal, most of the main story (aside from the black cat stuff) was pretty damn great. If they didn't care about the ESG stuff and put some more effort in the side content then this would've been a home run

To me, what really defines an ultimate video game is Ape Escape. It looks great, there's an amazing amount of charm and quirkiness to it, the music is great, the gameplay is really fun and you can tell so much love and creativity went into it.
For me the two game trilogies that left that kind of impression were the "Jak and Daxter" and "Ratchet and Clank" games for the PS2. 😊 I also got to play "Jak Combat Racing", which was a solid spinoff. It's depressing to know BOTH the game companies responsible for those classics have gotten so woke!

Normally the staff put themselves into their, it's an Easter egg or a subtle reference (example: half-life in the beginning, the names on the lockers are some of the staff). These days, they stick themselves in the game as main characters. If they really wanted a game showing the staff, make a new game with all the staff as characters.
An honour mention for a self insert that just a node to the developers is in Arkham knight, during the opening as you walk into the dinner the director of the game can be see waking out after you. It very small but meaningful, the developers will see it every time they play the game and the fans(who love the game) will know about it and appreciate.

Miles' conflict wasn't about what to do with Li when he got there, but what would happen when he came out the other side of that confrontation. It was meant to illustrate that Miles was made better under peter's tutelage, able to avoid his mistakes, and even bring him back from the brink because of what he's been taught. I'm sorry that he didn't spend more time beating up goons on the ground in a bloodlust, but his story is an excellent addition to the question of "what makes a spider-man" that this game posits. He is made Greater because of the guidance of his mentor and friends.
@slimkim3950 I'm surprised you don't know, but having seen lots of Current Year comics (unfortunately), this might help. Self inserting by a writer can come in a lot of forms. Some are not so subtle, as in a writer putting characters in situations that can safely be said to align with the writer's beliefs. Example, during all the 'mostly peaceful' protests in the Summer of Love 2020, the woke writer had Batgirl actually take part in one of those protests. To self insert at its WORST is when a writer ignores the history, lore and established character of a hero. They break one of the most important rules of writing to make a hero a reflection of themselves. Wine Aunt Gail Simone is one of the worst offenders, ignoring continuity with characters like Batgirl and Domino. Tom King has also done that with Batman and Mister Miracle. For an MCU example, go to the series She-Hulk and how she became a feminist reflection of Jessica Gao and her fellow writers. She-Hulk was NEVER like that in any of her issues I read!

The writer for these arcs has confessed that Bobby's interaction with his parents is exactly how he (the writer) had wished to interact with his parents when he came out. So because he identified with Bobby Drake on some level, this man had to go full Buffalo Bill, carve Bobby open and wear his skin like a costume. Bobby Drake is no longer his own character, he's just a gay writer but with superpowers and better-looking.
Imagine a zoomer playing Morrowind, no quest markers, have to listen/read the dialogue and explore the citiies to find the NPCs. Doubt they could even play Oblivion which all it requires is you to play the tutorial plus 2 main quests nearby to start the Daedra invasion. Had a cousin play Oblivion for over 100 hours and not ever get to the Invasion. Just went to nearest monster or NPC in visual range.

The only "formula" modern games faced is that there's a cinematic experience to the games with the cutscenes. But when technology is Advanced to the point where motion capture exist to enhance gaming experiences that's not something that's a negative. If you look at God of War there's literally never a camera change it's always the same camera moving in different directions Whearas something like Spider-Man and Infamous have regular camera cuts. Outside of the Cinematic aspect most modern games are still their own thing. Guarantee you the next modern day game this chick buys is going to have the exact same cinematic experience that modern day games have

I think actresses should start to put on their contract that their features should be preserved. Unless is something specifically made like Baldur's Gate 3 or original Mass Effect (I'm looking at you, Andromeda) where the game models aren't made after the voice actors' features, there must be an written approval before release.
Even then, look at laz el, and the voice actor that took on her role, and you can feel and see the baseline of her facial features that makes Laz el look like her without question. It's almost as if it was an actual s.fx makeup on the real actress

I wouldn't mind a self-insert as minor characters or as a randomly-appearing NPC (in fact, I think that's a fun way to immortalize your team in a project you're all proud of). I don't even mind self-inserts for original characters as long as they are flawed and balanced. But this is a bit ridiculous. Isn't Mary Jane a supermodel, or at the very least in the top percentile of attractiveness? Granted, this writer isn't unattractive but she isn't a knock-out like MJ ought to be. I still need to play through the first game but I'm not getting the sequel or the Miles Morales in-between title. They built off a great foundation but I'm not supporting the wokeness. Insomniac makes great games but I'd prefer the activism be left at the door, and for them to work on more Ratchet and Clank. This self insert is 100% real. I played and finished Spiderman 2. The way Mary Jane was shoehorned in to be essentially the third main character was extremely off putting to me. Mainly because it felt completely unearned. She didn't have powers, training or really any reason to be a complete badass. She never needed to be saved but saves others of course. She randomly was 007. All I can say is I now understand what happened. Not only did this writer put her face on MJ, but she wrote MJ to be a Mary Sue that was meant to be her...

MJ, as a character, was always portrayed as the modelesque girl next door that is WAY out of your league type of female. Peter Parker was always an awkward geek. When he wins her over it's like ever geek around the world celebrating this dream they all have of someone they know. That's why that story concept has endured for so long. It fantasy held by both men and women.
Modern 4th wave feminist writers would never allow that fantasy to continue. Especially since it’s a fantasy from the perspective of a man. Modern comic book/video game writers are repulsed by men.

That's not true; you're describing the Raimi Spider-Man Outline rather than the Romita Era version, which redefined Peter, and defined MJ as an incredible looking woman...that had a crush on Peter from the start.
People don't seem to know the history of the comic book Spider-Man.
MJ was the incredibly hot foil in a love triangle with Gwen Stacy. MJ was jealous of Gwen; MJ was also a troublemaker, and she dated Harry as a way to be close to Peter; she was implied to have a crush on him, and later shown to be in love with Peter from the time they first met (she also knew that he was Spider-Man from before they met).
The idea that Peter is only a "geek" in the comics belies what Stan Lee and John Romita did when Pete went to college; he became a good looking, cool guy that women were interested in.
As time went on, Stan Lee decided that MJ was meant for Peter rather than Gwen. Which is why Gwen was killed by Osborn.
But this idea that Peter was meant to exemplify a geek's romantic dreams, is something that ignores how much Peter changed in the comics of the late 60s and into the 70s.
The Peter Parker that Romita presented was not that way. Saying that he was, or that Todd McFarlane's version of Peter was "a geek," is as inaccurate as presenting Mary Jane as an unattractive woman.
He was very good looking, post-Romita (certainly Todd often presented this), and Mary Jane was, well, amazing looking.

Honestly Ben Jordan looks fine as Peter Parker, the problem is that John Bubniak face is perfect and any "facial mocap" improvement is not worth changing the face over (most likely payment contract issue tho), and if i really had to defend this peter's new face, at least in this game it looks more like undoctored Ben Jordan's face than in spiderman remastered where it looks like they tried their hardest to make Ben Jordan face as close as they could to make it look like Tom Holland. It really prevented what could've been the perfect Spidey game, the combat, traversal, most of the main story (aside from the black cat stuff) was pretty damn great. If they didn't care about the ESG stuff and put some more effort in the side content then this would've been a home run

To me, what really defines an ultimate video game is Ape Escape. It looks great, there's an amazing amount of charm and quirkiness to it, the music is great, the gameplay is really fun and you can tell so much love and creativity went into it.

For me the two game trilogies that left that kind of impression were the "Jak and Daxter" and "Ratchet and Clank" games for the PS2. 😊 I also got to play "Jak Combat Racing", which was a solid spinoff. Normally the staff put themselves into their, it's an Easter egg or a subtle reference (example: half-life in the beginning, the names on the lockers are some of the staff). An honour mention for a self insert that just a node to the developers is in Arkham knight, during the opening as you walk into the dinner the director of the game can be see waking out after you. It very small but meaningful, the developers will see it every time they play the game and the fans(who love the game) will know about it and appreciate.

He was basically a minor deus ex-machina with how powerfull they made him to get us to subconsciously like him more than peter. His li stuff went absolutely nowhere until he got captured and kraven is suddenly interested in gladiators fighting for his enjoyment.

Miles' conflict wasn't about what to do with Li when he got there, but what would happen when he came out the other side of that confrontation. It was meant to illustrate that Miles was made better under peter's tutelage, able to avoid his mistakes, and even bring him back from the brink because of what he's been taught. I'm sorry that he didn't spend more time beating up goons on the ground in a bloodlust, but his story is an excellent addition to the question of "what makes a spider-man" that this game posits.

Self inserting by a writer can come in a lot of forms. Some are not so subtle, as in a writer putting characters in situations that can safely be said to align with the writer's beliefs. Example, during all the 'mostly peaceful' protests in the Summer of Love 2020, the woke writer had Batgirl actually take part in one of those protests.
To self insert at its WORST is when a writer ignores the history, lore and established character of a hero. They break one of the most important rules of writing to make a hero a reflection of themselves. Wine Aunt Gail Simone is one of the worst offenders, ignoring continuity with characters like Batgirl and Domino. Tom King has also done that with Batman and Mister Miracle. For an MCU example, go to the series She-Hulk and how she became a feminist reflection of Jessica Gao and her fellow writers. She-Hulk was NEVER like that in any of her issues I read!

We've been seeing the selfish opposite from woke writers, and to make matters worse, their woke stories constantly suck. Bobby Drake had numerous girlfriends and relationships, then he got mind-whammied by Jean Grey. Suddenly he's gay and declares he's always been gay. The writer for these arcs has confessed that Bobby's interaction with his parents is exactly how he (the writer) had wished to interact with his parents when he came out.
So because he identified with Bobby Drake on some level, this man had to go full Buffalo Bill, carve Bobby open and wear his skin like a costume. Bobby Drake is no longer his own character, he's just a gay writer but with superpowers and better-looking.

Imagine a zoomer playing Morrowind, no quest markers, have to listen/read the dialogue and explore the citiies to find the NPCs. Doubt they could even play Oblivion which all it requires is you to play the tutorial plus 2 main quests nearby to start the Daedra invasion. Had a cousin play Oblivion for over 100 hours and not ever get to the Invasion. Just went to nearest monster or NPC in visual range.

The only "formula" modern games faced is that there's a cinematic experience to the games with the cutscenes. But when technology is Advanced to the point where motion capture exist to enhance gaming experiences that's not something that's a negative. If you look at God of War there's literally never a camera change it's always the same camera moving in different directions Whearas something like Spider-Man and Infamous have regular camera cuts. Outside of the Cinematic aspect most modern games are still their own thing. Guarantee you the next modern day game this chick buys is going to have the exact same cinematic experience that modern day games have

This comes down to a basic difference between the way genders imagine/fantasize. When boys play with gi Joe, they imagine they are gi Joe. When girls play with barbie, they imagine barbie is them. Girls insert themselves as the character with their traits, where as men fantasize about being the character with the character's traits. Feminizing gaming has radically changes how characters are conceived.

I agree with you on modern games. Too many cinematics during game play, too many beacons telling you where to go and what to do. Even with the insane graphics these days, I find it increasingly more difficult to become immersed.

I think actresses should start to put on their contract that their features should be preserved. Unless is something specifically made like Baldur's Gate 3 or original Mass Effect (I'm looking at you, Andromeda) where the game models aren't made after the voice actors' features, there must be an written approval before release.
Even then, look at laz el, and the voice actor that took on her role, and you can feel and see the baseline of her facial features that makes Laz el look like her without question. It's almost as if it was an actual s.fx makeup on the real actress

I wouldn't mind a self-insert as minor characters or as a randomly-appearing NPC (in fact, I think that's a fun way to immortalize your team in a project you're all proud of). I don't even mind self-inserts for original characters as long as they are flawed and balanced.
