One thing to note, grey squirrels don't generally live for 12 years. 12 years is the maximum recorded time one has lived in the wild. But generally they only live 5-6 years in the wild. In captivity they can live much longer, up to 20 years has been seen.

I live in south-western Canada. And I have lived in central and south-eastern Canada. I see the most grey squirrels here! They're adorable.

Great video! We have two grey squirrels outside my 5th and 6th period class room! We named them Oakley and Hazel

Probably the most common wild animal in my area, I see them all the time in my neighborhood, they like to get into the bird feeder, sometimes I see them fighting in the woods, such mischievous little creatures.

I have no exaggeration, 14 grays every morning in my backyard! I have pictures of one on every fence post eating a nut at the same time:)

dig it immediately into an area of my mother's plants in the garden (much to my mum's annoyance of course!) hehe Whenever I give her a nut without a shell, again she will eat it straight off 9/10 times. I've also fed her peanut butter and coconut, although I've seen her and other grey squirrels in the area carrying things like drumsticks, chocolate bars and even pain au chocolats in their mouths! Oh, and they like bird food too, often demonstrating amazing acrobatic skills getting to them

I just watched a news report that vilified these squirrels to the maximum, asserting that they were a blight to the community. All I could thinks was "What kind of fucking grey squirrel do YOU have in your community? Because the ones I grew up around never once caused a significant problem for me." In New York I would watch this little creatures eat Elder Berries from the deck in my backyard. Sometimes as many as 5 would be in the tree, hanging upside down, stretching here, grasping there. Isn't it enough that we insert our habitats into their habitats and muscle them out so that we can have our nice houses and yards to ourselves? Do people really need to be so intolerant that they'd like to stamp their life out of existence, as well? I'm of the opinion that we can share some. And shit, to be honest, I enjoy the company of squirrels better than some humans.

+michael m Totally agree. I'm sick of the arrogance of people referring to animals as " pests" when they pretty much do what they want with animals themselves for food, clothing, profit, sport, etc. I really hate society, and no i'm no mad animal rights type. I feed the squirrels in the park outside my gym here in Scotland. We have the same ones as you guys.
I watched my local squirrel this morning hanging upside down, dammit, to get the nuts i'd hung up from the tree. Now i know how they've been managing it. The magpie got owned.
Just found out folk are shooting them also for sport and pest control.

Nice info mate! I regularly feed a grey mother squirrel in my back garden, here in London. She can disappear for a while, but turns up suddenly and is then usually hard to satisfy ;-) I've watched her moves though, and these are her typical actions: 1 whole monkey nut she will take, nestle it firmly into her mouth (usually turning it over several times before finally nestling it), then "shoot off" up a nearby tree towards another location. If I give her half a monkey nut she will 9/10 times

(as my father purposefully makes them out of the reach so there may be something left for the birds!) lol Since you mentioned that she is breeding at this time of the year (i.e. summer time), that may explain why she is coming regurarly again to ask for food. She always asks by standing on her hind legs and nestling both claws to her chest. I'm convinced she gives thanks too, amazing thing!

@shadowkitty56 This might be a stupid question... Is raptor another word for owl? I always think of a raptor as that scary dinosaur in Jurassic Park.

Raptors are large predatory birds. Eagles, hawks, falcon, owls etc are all raptors.

might I recommend doing raptors next? If your camera has a night vision feature, see if you can get a nice shot or two of an owl....it would be great.
    Keep up the wonderful work.

When a non native species competes with the indigenous species for food and habitat, that is a problem. It's enough of a problem that your taxes are likely paying for their removal, depending on what state you live in.

Bullshit. American Grey Squirrels were shipped over from America and dominated our Red Squirrels. There are plenty natural parks, untouched by humans in england swarming with Squirrels. So don't come preaching your nonsense without propper research.
