    I feel like this is what Prokofiev wanted. You can feel the utterly psychotic nature of this piece in this performance. Yuja wang’s performance is amazing but I think this one has much more flavor.

    • @laurenth7187
      @laurenth7187 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not like it, because it shouldn't be played like that : first it's a Toccata in reference to Bach, so there shouldn't be any fancy rhythm an then even it's not reflecting Prokofiev's mechanical repetitive rhythm and energy.

      @@alexreyna1508 The problem I see is this Quest for Speed - I am looking to see if Khatia plays the Toc but I don't think so - look at what she does with the Precip. Look at oration, a president speaks extremely slowly and is hence, "presidential." I really don't care how Prok played it or how it is scored to be played - some performers simply do a better job finding more emotion and magic. Martha finds some ethereal passages that others are oblivious too. Yuja seems off to the races. A lot of Rach is played so fast, you can't year his delicate and intricate inner voicings - they just blur into a "static thing."
      Then there is the opposite: Bolero and the feud between Rav abd Tosc. In this case I feel Rav went too far and Tosc was right. P's Canon, a similar, "endless repetition" does not benefit from more "grandeur"

    E' incredibile scoprire quanti grandi talenti possono esserci oggi nel mondo, ed è per questo che non dobbiamo fissarci sui soliti nomi. Bisognerebbe sempre guardarsi in giro e scoprire (visto che oggi si può), e sorprendersi, come è accaduto a me oggi ascoltando questa incredibile interpretazione della Toccata di Prokofiev. Personalmente non conoscevo la Beraia e me ne rammarico, visto che questa sua performance mi ha letteralmente lasciato a bocca aperta. Malgrado l'infelice audio, posso dire di aver comunque assistito ad una attentissima, precisa, nervosa, intensissima lettura di questa meravigliosa partitura pianistica.

    This is by far my FAVORITE performance of this toccata and I think that is saying a lot because I also love Argerich`s rendition. I thought how she sounds all the top notes on the descending right hand chords at 1:40 and 3:25 to be very remarkable.

      La Toccata de Prokofiev écrite en 1912. Par "l'autre" Géorgienne, Tamar Beraia. Pourquoi j'adore cette interprétation ?
      1) j'adore la Toccata de Prokofiev. À mon humble avis, elle doit contenir de la finesse, de la féminité, de la sensibilisation, de la virtuosité. Mais... mais... mais... Ce qui doit ressortir de cette œuvre majeure du 20ème Siècle est son caractère motorique, obsessionnel, angoissant, oppressant.
      2) Tamar Beraia est raffinée mais musclée. Les vedettes de la Toccata de Prokofiev sont les marteaux du piano. L'académisme, la virtuosité et le raffinement ne sont pas de mise. La Toccata de Prokofiev est un rouleau compresseur, espiègle, sarcastique à la limite du sardonique.
      3) Toutes les légendes du piano se sont mesurées à la Toccata de Prokofiev. Je me répète, la Géorgienne Tamar Beraia livre une vision inquiétante stupéfiante.

    This is the most furious rendition of this I've come across, almost as if she had to show she is in charge of the performance rather than the composer. Not as intricate, musical or elegant as LIse de la Salle or as utterly confident as Horowitz or Argerich but in almost a separate class of her own.

    Loved it. .... .... I just keep thinking who was this Prokofiev? Only 18 years younger than Rachmaninoff and he (P) blows up the whole musical scene. His music is virtually alien compared to those before him. He makes piano fingers and piano brains do things that were previously never imagined. Structures that are convoluted and contortionist. And then the utter joy watching talented pianist play his music - no, _it plays them_ . No time for acting here!

    I have to keep listening to this performance to appreciate all the details that most pianists miss. Although the great show-masters of this piece can achieve playing all the notes and reduce the time element to 80% of the length of this performance, much is lost in the melee of notes and blurring pedal (to disguise wrong notes?) producing an almost cacophonic result!!!

    Greatest performance of this Toccata is Horowitz, with Yuja Wang (encore) a ridiculously close second; Zhang about equal to Wang - a fabulous rendition as well. With time at a premium for most, listening to other interpretations could be considered superfluous (other than to satisfy curiosity). No disrespect whatsoever intended, but this isn't even in the same universe as those.
