Good on them for making something different, and I really like the new Santa Fe... Could see that selling well actually. But one of my pet hates is any vehicle where you can't turn the stability control off. Boo on that one, would be a deal-breaker for me.
@drivingenthusiastaustralia Yeah the LHD market got V6 AWD but the already mediocre fuel economy & marginal performance increase was offset by noticably higher fuel consumption. I personally like the last gen Santa Fe over the new model. I believe they've got substantially less intrusive warnings, attention cameras, etc that really do sweet f**k all. Also no connected services which is even better.
I had my work issue GXL Kluger on some roads up in Porpunkah in the victorian high country, I think it looks like it handles bumps offroad better than this car, with probably more wheel travel. The thing rides like a magic carpet. Only downside is it doesn't have all terrains.
Strange test. I don't think anyone will ever drive this car like you did in the first half of this video and nor will they even care that the traction control can't be turned off completely.
@@mrnicktoyou Would you agree the XRT pack is designed for off-road driving? Ask any semi-serious to serious 4x4 enthusiast and they will tell you ESC off is very important. Having it on not only hinders progress, but it can cause damage and stress to the components, especially on sand; things overheat quickly when you have two opposing forces. In this case it wouldn’t let me drive out of the slides, instead just floating sideways. Hope that helps.
@@drivingenthusiastaustralia It's not designed for off-road driving, the ground clearance alone tells you that. It's a lifestyle product for families who go camping and adventure outdoors and want a bit more space than an Outback. If you drove an Outback like in the first half of the video, it would be wrecked.
Not meaning to start an argument, but there are literally "mud" and "sand" driving modes. Last time I checked, mud and sand were off road. Also, in the official Hyundai press release, the company said: "An Australian team travelled to the Hyundai America Technical Centre (HATCI) in Irvine, California to test existing North American Santa Fe XRT components in varied on- and off-road conditions, including steep unsealed climbs and descents with rocks and sand." - That's off-road driving. Also, the Hyundai website says: "The XRT Option packs are off-road ready" www.hyundai.com/au/en/shop/xrt I think it's a cool package overall, as I said in the video. It'd just be nice if the ESC could be switched off. This test was put together to show the fun side of the vehicle, because I really doubt the standard setup could withstand the same conditions. PS. Subaru Outback test coming next month 👍
Hyundai's HTRAC AWD system is so good, although I'd love more rear bias. (Coming from a Subaru owner.) I also like what they've done with the cargo mat built-in to the rear seats.
So in reality these cars are too goddamn fancy electric hand brakes suck stability control that won't turn off properly sucks as well. So in other words, all this technology sucks lol I will stick to older cars that have good old fashioned handbrake. Thank you but that's just me haha
The new look Sante Fe actually looks good. Really like the front and back end. Nice!
Classic review, mat. First 10 seconds had my heart pumping - talk about a thrashing!

I always love watching a talented ex racer behind the wheel of any vehicle and pushing it almost past its limits. 👍😎🇦🇺
Great video
I still prefer the old shape Santa Fe
But it’s a very impressive car
Cheers

Wonder how the 2.5T is gonna be in comparison to the Hybrid.
Agree, it should be interesting. And it will be available in AWD unlike the old V6 (at least in Australia).

This is what the rav4 should have been.
Toyotas don't want to get out of their comfort zone. Hyundais are evolving too fast
You should take the BYD ute on this track when you review it 😊
Its cool, I like it, albeit the normal road trim better 😀

I quite like it, but it's a minimum $71K drive away. That's Everest Trend money - albeit it's more civilized on the road.
And better built I'd suggest too.
Wow starts at $75k that’s crazy 🤪 yet again they all are expensive these days

The rear looks like an old Swift/ Barina.
Hyundai has a 2-part traction/stability control OFF, quick press = Limited TC and push and hold for 10 seconds to fully disable..

Yeah that moulded cargo floor is awesome. And yes, agree, more rear power never goes astray!

Note to self : don't buy a press car. 😂 very interesting review though, surprisingly capable.

What’s with the rear end of this vehicle? Did they run out of time or deliberately make it fugly. An arse only a mother could love.
It's a practical arse.
Hopefully your transmission will last another review 😂
