The undertaker is, without a doubt, the best wrestler of all time. For 30 years, he reinvented himself and put his body through misery. And entertained the wwe universe wanting to give them a perfect match to end on, which was against aj styles in 2020, he's my favorite, and definitely deserves his hall of fame spot, for his dedication, great character, helping out younger talent, and always working backstage, even now 3 years after he finally retired. 19:20 For the most part yes. Most top superstars get a big say in who they think is "worthy" of defeating them. The Undertaker pioneered the idea of consistently using his position as a top guy to let other people defeat him and create other great wrestlers. That tactic was perfected by The Rock. He lost often during the height of his popularity and always used his star power to get other people over. Kudos to Taker for pioneering that trend.

@In Bed With Movies: Paul Bearer actually continued to operate his funeral parlour business throughout his wrestling career. Most of the props used by the Undertaker (coffins, urns, hearses) were provided by his manager. There was even a storyline where they tried to embalm one of 'Takers opponents alive, in a real morgue, and it was clear that Paul knew exactly how to carry out the procedure.
I was eight years old when The Undertaker debuted in 1990 and he instantly became my favourite. When Brock Lesnar broke the streak I woke up my neighbour (I think it was about 4am UK time?) due to shouting and swearing at the top of my lungs... When I bumped into him at the local pub later that evening he asked what all the commotion was about, "I don't want to talk about it." (it still pisses me off to this very day!)

I’ve been watching wrestling since 1989 when I was 4. I’ve only ever been to one wrestlemania. And it was this wrestlemania where the Undertaker lost. The crowd was silent after this loss. I’ve never experienced anything like it. It wasn’t a bad silence. It was a silence of when someone unbelievable happens. No one expected it. We didn’t expect it. Because of 21 years we had seen the Undertaker win time after time at wrestlemania. I was in elementary school, first grade, 7 years old when the undertaker made his debut. In that time I had went through middle school. Went through high school. Got my first job. Trained to be a prowrestler. Wrestled for 10 years. Got married. Bought a house. And in my 30s I went to my first wrestlemania And saw the Undertaker lose. The silence was the most eerily earned silence I had ever felt.
Watching undertaker lose live, legit hurt. Me and my brother always loved Kane and Undertaker. And seeing the end of the streak was like having a end to our own brotherhood.
He did a good video, but he actually left out a lot of key things. Most notably being that the character of The Undertaker had a "kayfabe"(in storyline reality) brother, who was equally as powerful in the supernatural arts as he is. When The Undertaker made his debut, he was called "Kane, The Undertaker". The "Kane" part was soon dropped, but would come back into the story later on. In the "real world", Mark Callaway had met another wrestler in Jim Cornette's territory by the name of Glenn Jacobs. He was briefly mentioned in this video as Dr. Isaac Yankem DDS. It was Callaway(Undertaker) who got him signed to the WWF in the first place. He got stuck with a couple of bad gimmicks, but someone suggested that he could be repackaged as The Undertaker's younger brother, Kane. This, in my opinion, turned out to be one of the most fantastic long term storylines in Pro Wrestling history. To put it briefly, the Undertaker's manager, Paul Bearer(real name William Moody) had worked at the funeral parlor that Undertaker's parents owned. Moody was indeed a licensed embalmer/funeral parlor worker in real life. Back to "kayfabe"; Bearer was apprenticing with Undertaker's parents while in college. As he returned to the parlor one day, he found it in the process of being burned to the ground. Undertaker's parents were killed in the fire, and it was believed that Undertaker's younger brother Kane was also killed in it. Bearer deceived Undertaker, and secreted Kane off to a hidden location and raised him in the "dark arts", the same "dark arts" he instilled into the Undertaker to give him the supernatural powers. When, after a few years, Undertaker became a "babyface"(good guy/fan favorite) and dumped Paul Bearer, he revealed Kane to the world. The masked monster(who is legit slightly bigger than Undertaker) showed up, and "we were off to the races", so to speak. Incredible storytelling. The reason Kane wore a mask and near full body suit was because he was allegedly burned badly in the fire. I had the pleasure of meeting William Moody(aka Paul Bearer) at a local wrestling event. I have a picture of my wife and I with him, and a couple of autographs. In real life, he was a wonderful man. I actually became an e-mail based "pen-pal" with him all the way until his death. He was such an insightful man, with a long history of doing the best he could in whatever situation he faced. No doubt he imparted that on Mark Callaway(Undertaker), and likely Glenn Jacobs(Kane) as well. He had an infectious personality, and he loved to laugh and interact with his fans. Despite his "demonic/satanic" persona in the ring, he was a very religious man in reality. Fun fact: The Undertaker officially retired 30 years to the day from his WWF debut, during a broadcast of the same event(Survivor Series) that he first showed up at. It was very fitting. His last actual match was called a "Cinematic Match", that took place at WrestleMania in 2020. It was filmed over 2 nights, as the pandemic caused no fans to actually be in attendance. The funny thing about it, is that he was willing to "lose" the match to help put over his opponent, A.J. Styles... but Styles insisted that he lose, and allow the Undertaker to leave on a victory(which is almost unheard of in wrestling). It was actually a very fitting end to his career. Styles was simply thrilled that he would be the final victim of "The Dead Man". If you can get the WWE Network for a month or two, I highly recommend watching the few Undertaker documentaries they have available. You can also watch some of his matches, as well. I don't care what anyone says, he is legit the greatest legend that pro wrestling will ever have. He always put others ahead of himself. As much as his in ring character would "no sell" what his opponents did to him, he would allow them time to look good, and help elevate them. Especially after he was established within the company.
i think Kane was literally the most rose up wrestler that Taker ever raised, even Kane's introduction was hyped via Taker's storyline with him, when he finally appeared i had a look like i was Rodney Dangerfield, bugeye city.

I'll have to look into Kane, his story sounds interesting. I'm so glad that you told me all this info about William Moody. I did shrug him off a bit because I found him a bit too ridiculous but I have enjoyed reading more about the real person. So sad that his last match was without a crowd but what a memorable way to finish off his career. I'll look into getting it when the kids are back at school and I have a bit more time on my hands. When I was little, we would all gather around the TV(we only had one) to watch the WWWF show on Saturday evening. By the time the 80s rolled around, it had gotten "too far away" from the content that my grandmother and her brother enjoyed, so it was basically me watching alone. Also, my "rebellious side had started coming out, so I was cheering on the "bad guys". But, essentially, I've been a wrestling fan for over 50 years(I turn 55 next month). I first saw Mark Calaway on some bootleg VHS tapes from his time in Japan. I was absolutely shocked that a guy his size(6'9'-6'10) could move around the ring like a guy much smaller/lighter than him. When I got to see him in WCW, I was hooked on him as a performer, although his "gimmick" wasn't the best. When he debuted in the WWF as The Undertaker.... I knew right then that he was money. THAT was the right gimmick for him. I loved it from the moment I first saw it. As he continued to evolve the character and the story, I couldn't get enough. When Kane was introduced, that sealed the deal on Glenn Jacobs. He, too, had hit a "money" character. It was such great storytelling, and I loved every minute of it. This particular storyline, I literally could talk about for HOURS on end. Maybe because, in a few ways, it relates to my own life(short of the patricide, that is). But I had siblings I was unaware of until much later in life, my parents.... well, my father was dead,(he died when I was a year old) and my mother was out of my life(and she died in 1994). I had not seen her since I was 4 years old, and I'm told that I had no idea who she even was. But I digress.... I'm going to post a few links I think you would enjoy. I started watching wrestling in 1998 because of the undertaker... I had the biggest teenage crush on him... So many describe him as scary... I thought he was so hot! Then I got into the storylines, became fans of other guys as well and became a long time fan... I had posters all over my walls, bought all kinds of merch, one of my first tattoos was an undertaker symbol. When the streak ended I felt hurt.. it felt personal. Its crazy the emotion these guys can make you feel through their method of storytelling.
People are saying check out his hell in a cell match with Mankind in 98 but I'd recommend starting with his series of matches with Mankind in 96. IMO that year with Mankind really rejuvenated the Undertaker character and brought it to a new level. Most of his feuds before then were with big lumbering monsters and Taker really had to work his ass off to even make those matches presentable. But in 96 he started his feud with Mankind and that really helped his character turn a corner. The hell in a cell match in 98 is really the closing match of their amazing arch.

So one thing, Kane/Glenn Jacobs, despite it seems absurd that he's in politics, it actually makes perfect sense. The man is brilliant and always has been. He had trouble fitting in with the rest of the WWE roster due to the topics he found interest in compared to everyone else. All hail Mayor Kane
If your going to watch any undertaker matches, I'd recommend either undertaker vs mankind hell in a cell, simply for being one of the most physically demanding and brutal matches I've seen. The other being undertaker vs Shawn Michaels wrestlemania 25, for being one of the best matches of all time in terms of performance, story telling and meaning in my opinion.... Or maybe do both🤷♂️😅. "Did he get to choose when to win and when to lose?" Mark Calloway (The Undertaker) might have been able to do that, but I never heard of him doing so. He was however the leader of the locker room. That basically meant that he could keep the stars in line. If stars had a problem with each other then he would solve it - aggressively. If stars threatened the business in any way then he would solve it - aggressively. A famous example is the main event of Wrestlemania 14. It was Shawn Michaels defending his title against Stone Cold Steve Austin. At the time, Michaels was an arrogant son of a gun, and he had hinted that he wouldn't drop the belt to Austin. Calloway had told Michaels that if Michaels didn't drop the belt then the two of them would have words. In fact, Calloway watched the main event from behind the curtain entrance and he was taping up his fists ready to kick Michael's behind if Michaels carried through with his threat. However, Michaels dropped the belt to Austin. After that, Calloway untaped his hands and walked away. If Michaels had carried through with his threat then Calloway would physically assaulted him.
The Undertaker is my all time favorite! I saw him live several times, and every time it was always so powerful. He always had the crowd completely in his hands! The first time I saw him live, was also my first live event, Wrestlemania 9....bummer!!! Lol.
@@inbedwithmovies3228 No, he "won", but Wrestlemania 9 is generally regarded as the worst Wrestlemania of all time. I used to live in San Diego, CA, so Nevada was only a 4-5 hour drive. Los Angeles is an even shorter drive, at about 2 1/2 hours; so the other 2 Wrestlemanias I attended were both there: Wrestlemania 12, and 21.

Just so you know, since 2002 yes actually the WWE has held events/tours approximately once per year all across Australia (my country too, btw). Right up til 2019 in fact - though obviously covid has complicated things recently.

Maybe 'the Project' might make mention of it when it's in town, or 'Rove Live' back in the day (he actually participated in one of the early WWE events being a fan himself). Usually payTV (Foxtel Sports in particular) is/was the place to catch WWE on our TV - but generally the WWE now has its own specialised streaming service online (like everything else these days). I recall on Sept 11, 2001, it just so happened that Rove was about to interview a retired big name (Bret Hart) in the very next segment after he cut to a commercial break - but I never got to see it as it was right in the middle of that commercial break that the nonstop live news of the planes hitting the NYC towers broke... and as shocking as that was obviously (I was 19 at the time) I was actually equally annoyed at never getting to actually see that interview..!!

Maybe the interview is on TH-cam? I was 13 and was hyperventilating because my mum made me go to school the next day and I was worried we’d be next. Very eerie day/s at school after that.
Like the narrator, I also grew up watching the undertaker as a kid through to adulthood, because of the whole global pandemic happening, the Undertaker didn't have the send off he truly deserved ( in front of the fans who loved him) but what the narrator doesn't mention is that even when going out shopping or out to dinner or what not, if a fan came up to him he still kept in his character when interacting with that fan, true legend for sure!

"The Undertaker is genuinely terrifying." I was nearly 14 years old when I saw The Undertaker debut on pay per view. Let me tell you, I was on the edge of my seat. Who was this guy? He was so cool! I didn't know anything about him. I knew that he had Brother Love as his manager - who I despised. I knew that he was called The Undertaker. I knew that he was a heel. I knew nothing else but I was an immediate fan. The Undertaker had a 30 year career that no one will ever replicate. He won multiple titles. He put butts in seats. He main evented numerous times. Here's whats funny. When he was in WCW he was told that he would never ever be a super star. He goes to the WWF and boom he becomes a super star.

I'd recommend starting off with the full feud against Yokozuna. While I agree that the Hell in a Cell vs Mankind and the Wrestlemania match vs Shawn Michaels are definitely must watches, that feud against Yoko is what first put him... beyond wrestling, for lack of a better way to phrase it. It was back during his original Deadman gimmick, with Paul Bearer and the urn. Stuck in the middle of all of that is the most bizarre twist, Ted Dibiase (the guy who originally "brought him into the WWF") bringing back a fake Undertaker. While the Undertaker vs. Underfaker wasn't exactly the best match in and of itself, the storyline leading up to it was fantastic. The two matches against Yoko, however, were great. Yoko was a deceptively agile 565 lb. "Japanese sumo wrestler" (Even though he as actually Samoan, and one of Taker's best friends backstage until his death), and Taker has said multiple times that Yoko was his favorite opponent. That was many years ago, so that may have changed towards the end of his career. Also, as a side note, if you see a Samoan in the WWF/E, they're probably related to the Rock. Either a cousin, or an uncle. Haku, Barbarian, Yokozuna, The Headshrinkers (Samu and Fatu/Rikishi), the Usos, the whole family. And by all accounts, they're all wonderfully kind, warm hearted people..... unless you're an idiot that gets drunk and tries to fight them in a bar. Then they're your worst nightmare. I recommend reacting to "Wrestling Legends tell Haku Fight Stories."

Are they actually related or is it how everyone calls each other family? Oh trust me, I’d never pick a drunken fight with a Samoan 🤣 having said that, I’ve never met one that I didn’t get along with.

There's talks this year though that they are negotiating some future events. The news article I skimmed about it mentioned Perth as the likely destination.
Tetsuya Naito is a tragic story with a great ending. He made one of the only DEADLY mistakes a pro wrestler can make with the fans in japan.... he TOLD THEM he was "shuyaku" which means "main character" or "top guy", instead of PROVING IT TO THEM in the ring and being annointed Shuyaku by the crowd. they sat on their hands, just "impress me, I DARE YOU" until he fled to mexico for a couple years. he comes back from mexico with swagger, a new look, a new attitude, and a stable of colorful eclectic badasses known as "los ingobernables de japon"; the ungovernables of japan. He's experienced now, so no more pandering to the crowd to get with him, he's "tranquilo". he sweats NOTHING and NOBODY.... and the japanese fans LOVE HIM FOR IT. he can spit in the ring, cheat, throw the title belt around, be as disrespectful as he wants (all things that the fans REALLY DON'T LIKE to the point it can get wrestlers fined or dis-invited from new japan pro wrestling)... because now he IS SHUYAKU.

Oddly enough this was the video that popped up on my recommended list today so I went back and binged this whole little series. That absolutely was a real reticulated Python. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts had a gimmick where his finishing move would knock his opponent out and then he would put his snake on top of them. As far as if he got to choose when he won or lost not especially, but he was known to often argue in favor of losing if he felt it was beneficial to the other guy's character or image to beat him at that time. It’s where all the major storylines come to an end and typically only the biggest stars in the wrestling business get to have matches there. Think of it as the season finale of the WWE and the WWE is the biggest company in wrestling, So they pack out like a football stadium with like 70 to 80,000 fans and put on the most sought after matches with the biggest stars
The undertaker is my personal favorite wrestler, his story is one of legendary status. If you intend on watching some of his matches I'd recommend: Undertaker vs Shawn Michael WrestleMania 25 + 26, Undertaker vs Kurt Angle No Way Out 2006, and Undertaker vs Mankind King of the Ring 1998. Also this same narrator made a video on wrestling "heels" or villains and that is a really good one into the bad guy concept.

He ring announcers didnt announce a winner for at least 30 seconds afternthe pinfall. Great show. I believe WWE is touring Australia next year (2024?). Dont quote me.
If you decide to check out any of his matches, the first one I would say has to be either against Mankind in the Hell in a Cell from King of the Ring '98, or against Shawn Michaels in the Hell in a Cell from Bad Blood '97. Both were absolute classics. Oh and by the way regarding Robert De Niro, if the only movie you've seen him in is Meet The Parents, you're in for a hell of a journey with his catalogue of work. I'd imagine you won't be disappointed.
Mark definitely had input on anything to do with his character/persona. He lived his gimmick, always dressing in dark colors and being cold in interviews pretending he was a mortician. If you have not seen it you should try to see the WWE Documentary series Undertaker: The Last Ride. It really covers his last few years in the business. Wrestlemania is like the World Cup championship or the Superbowl in football. It is the biggest and most hyped show of the year for WWE. WWE does do some events in Australia from time to time. Not sure what city or cities they visit.

@@inbedwithmovies3228 No, of course, I wasn't expecting Jericho's name to mean anything to ya, it was the 'Aussie-ism' that was my key detail..! Most wrestlers alternate a few times between 'heel' and 'face' throughout their careers, and though obviously a 'heel' back then, he's stood the test of time, and decades later he's now one of the more respected/liked veterans (though no longer with the WWE). He's also in a heavy metal band too incidentally (though I doubt that'll assist you in identifying him!). Don't know if it was literally sold out, but yes, the MCG event (Australia's first) did seem to be quite packed. Not only the Undertaker lasted WWE for 30 years he is The Real Deadman Walking. When he got injured like broken foot, broken nose, concussion and many injuries that I forget to mention and still continue the match. Why? because he loved wrestling business. Also you should watch Dark Side Of the Ring Series of Chris Benoit Tragedy, Owen Hart Final Days, Plane Ride From Hell or Etc. :)
While they might be the biggest globally. Don't forget that WWE are not the only game in town. As far as I know Australia has a indi wrestling scene so going to live events is doable, plus to anyone reading this please support you local wresting scene for the health of the industry as a whole. Also being from Aus while not cheap a cheaper alterative for that big match feel might be going to a mega show in Japan as it is closer to you :)
Thank you, I've looked up our local wrestlers. There are some from my city that I will check out when case numbers settle down. As much as I would LOVE to see Japanese wrestlers live in action, I am terrified of flying (haven't been on a plane since 2013) so that is out of the question.

The undertaker is, without a doubt, the best wrestler of all time. For 30 years, he reinvented himself and put his body through misery. And entertained the wwe universe wanting to give them a perfect match to end on, which was against aj styles in 2020, he's my favorite, and definitely deserves his hall of fame spot, for his dedication, great character, helping out younger talent, and always working backstage, even now 3 years after he finally retired. The Undertaker pioneered the idea of consistently using his position as a top guy to let other people defeat him and create other great wrestlers.
That tactic was perfected by The Rock. He lost often during the height of his popularity and always used his star power to get other people over. Kudos to Taker for pioneering that trend.

Paul Bearer actually continued to operate his funeral parlour business throughout his wrestling career. Most of the props used by the Undertaker (coffins, urns, hearses) were provided by his manager. There was even a storyline where they tried to embalm one of 'Takers opponents alive, in a real morgue, and it was clear that Paul knew exactly how to carry out the procedure.

I was eight years old when The Undertaker debuted in 1990 and he instantly became my favourite. When Brock Lesnar broke the streak I woke up my neighbour (I think it was about 4am UK time?) due to shouting and swearing at the top of my lungs... When I bumped into him at the local pub later that evening he asked what all the commotion was about, "I don't want to talk about it."

I’ve been watching wrestling since 1989 when I was 4.
I’ve only ever been to one wrestlemania.
And it was this wrestlemania where the Undertaker lost.
The crowd was silent after this loss. I’ve never experienced anything like it.
It wasn’t a bad silence. It was a silence of when someone unbelievable happens. No one expected it. We didn’t expect it. Because of 21 years we had seen the Undertaker win time after time at wrestlemania.
I was in elementary school, first grade, 7 years old when the undertaker made his debut.
In that time I had went through middle school.
Went through high school.
Got my first job.
Trained to be a prowrestler.
Wrestled for 10 years.
Got married.
Bought a house.
And in my 30s I went to my first wrestlemania
And saw the Undertaker lose.
The silence was the most eerily earned silence I had ever felt.

He did a good video, but he actually left out a lot of key things. Most notably being that the character of The Undertaker had a "kayfabe"(in storyline reality) brother, who was equally as powerful in the supernatural arts as he is. When The Undertaker made his debut, he was called "Kane, The Undertaker". The "Kane" part was soon dropped, but would come back into the story later on.
In the "real world", Mark Callaway had met another wrestler in Jim Cornette's territory by the name of Glenn Jacobs. He was briefly mentioned in this video as Dr. Isaac Yankem DDS. It was Callaway(Undertaker) who got him signed to the WWF in the first place. He got stuck with a couple of bad gimmicks, but someone suggested that he could be repackaged as The Undertaker's younger brother, Kane. This, in my opinion, turned out to be one of the most fantastic long term storylines in Pro Wrestling history.
To put it briefly, the Undertaker's manager, Paul Bearer(real name William Moody) had worked at the funeral parlor that Undertaker's parents owned. Moody was indeed a licensed embalmer/funeral parlor worker in real life. Back to "kayfabe"; Bearer was apprenticing with Undertaker's parents while in college. As he returned to the parlor one day, he found it in the process of being burned to the ground. Undertaker's parents were killed in the fire, and it was believed that Undertaker's younger brother Kane was also killed in it. Bearer deceived Undertaker, and secreted Kane off to a hidden location and raised him in the "dark arts", the same "dark arts" he instilled into the Undertaker to give him the supernatural powers. When, after a few years, Undertaker became a "babyface"(good guy/fan favorite) and dumped Paul Bearer, he revealed Kane to the world. The masked monster(who is legit slightly bigger than Undertaker) showed up, and "we were off to the races", so to speak. Incredible storytelling. The reason Kane wore a mask and near full body suit was because he was allegedly burned badly in the fire.
I had the pleasure of meeting William Moody(aka Paul Bearer) at a local wrestling event. I have a picture of my wife and I with him, and a couple of autographs. In real life, he was a wonderful man. I actually became an e-mail based "pen-pal" with him all the way until his death. He was such an insightful man, with a long history of doing the best he could in whatever situation he faced. No doubt he imparted that on Mark Callaway(Undertaker), and likely Glenn Jacobs(Kane) as well. He had an infectious personality, and he loved to laugh and interact with his fans. Despite his "demonic/satanic" persona in the ring, he was a very religious man in reality.
Fun fact: The Undertaker officially retired 30 years to the day from his WWF debut, during a broadcast of the same event(Survivor Series) that he first showed up at. It was very fitting. His last actual match was called a "Cinematic Match", that took place at WrestleMania in 2020. It was filmed over 2 nights, as the pandemic caused no fans to actually be in attendance. The funny thing about it, is that he was willing to "lose" the match to help put over his opponent, A.J. Styles... but Styles insisted that he lose, and allow the Undertaker to leave on a victory(which is almost unheard of in wrestling). It was actually a very fitting end to his career. Styles was simply thrilled that he would be the final victim of "The Dead Man".
If you can get the WWE Network for a month or two, I highly recommend watching the few Undertaker documentaries they have available. You can also watch some of his matches, as well.
I don't care what anyone says, he is legit the greatest legend that pro wrestling will ever have. He always put others ahead of himself. As much as his in ring character would "no sell" what his opponents did to him, he would allow them time to look good, and help elevate them. Especially after he was established within the company.
i think Kane was literally the most rose up wrestler that Taker ever raised, even Kane's introduction was hyped via Taker's storyline with him, when he finally appeared i had a look like i was Rodney Dangerfield, bugeye city.

So sad that his last match was without a crowd but what a memorable way to finish off his career.

@@inbedwithmovies3228 My pleasure! I have been a wrestling fan since I was 3 years old(1970), as my family had been wrestling fans going back to the 1950s. When I was little, we would all gather around the TV(we only had one) to watch the WWWF show on Saturday evening. By the time the 80s rolled around, it had gotten "too far away" from the content that my grandmother and her brother enjoyed, so it was basically me watching alone. Also, my "rebellious side had started coming out, so I was cheering on the "bad guys". But, essentially, I've been a wrestling fan for over 50 years(I turn 55 next month).
I first saw Mark Calaway on some bootleg VHS tapes from his time in Japan. I was absolutely shocked that a guy his size(6'9'-6'10) could move around the ring like a guy much smaller/lighter than him. When I got to see him in WCW, I was hooked on him as a performer, although his "gimmick" wasn't the best. When he debuted in the WWF as The Undertaker.... I knew right then that he was money. THAT was the right gimmick for him. I loved it from the moment I first saw it. As he continued to evolve the character and the story, I couldn't get enough. When Kane was introduced, that sealed the deal on Glenn Jacobs. He, too, had hit a "money" character. It was such great storytelling, and I loved every minute of it. This particular storyline, I literally could talk about for HOURS on end. Maybe because, in a few ways, it relates to my own life(short of the patricide, that is). But I had siblings I was unaware of until much later in life, my parents.... well, my father was dead,(he died when I was a year old) and my mother was out of my life(and she died in 1994). I had not seen her since I was 4 years old, and I'm told that I had no idea who she even was. But I digress....

I started watching wrestling in 1998 because of the undertaker... I had the biggest teenage crush on him... So many describe him as scary... I thought he was so hot! Then I got into the storylines, became fans of other guys as well and became a long time fan... I had posters all over my walls, bought all kinds of merch, one of my first tattoos was an undertaker symbol. When the streak ended I felt hurt.. it felt personal. Its crazy the emotion these guys can make you feel through their method of storytelling.
People are saying check out his hell in a cell match with Mankind in 98 but I'd recommend starting with his series of matches with Mankind in 96. IMO that year with Mankind really rejuvenated the Undertaker character and brought it to a new level. Most of his feuds before then were with big lumbering monsters and Taker really had to work his ass off to even make those matches presentable. But in 96 he started his feud with Mankind and that really helped his character turn a corner. The hell in a cell match in 98 is really the closing match of their amazing arch.

So one thing, Kane/Glenn Jacobs, despite it seems absurd that he's in politics, it actually makes perfect sense. The man is brilliant and always has been. He had trouble fitting in with the rest of the WWE roster due to the topics he found interest in compared to everyone else.

If your going to watch any undertaker matches, I'd recommend either undertaker vs mankind hell in a cell, simply for being one of the most physically demanding and brutal matches I've seen. The other being undertaker vs Shawn Michaels wrestlemania 25, for being one of the best matches of all time in terms of performance, story telling and meaning in my opinion.... Or maybe do both🤷♂️😅. Keep up the good work👍

Mark Calloway (The Undertaker) might have been able to do that, but I never heard of him doing so. He was however the leader of the locker room. That basically meant that he could keep the stars in line. If stars had a problem with each other then he would solve it - aggressively. If stars threatened the business in any way then he would solve it - aggressively. A famous example is the main event of Wrestlemania 14. It was Shawn Michaels defending his title against Stone Cold Steve Austin. At the time, Michaels was an arrogant son of a gun, and he had hinted that he wouldn't drop the belt to Austin. Calloway had told Michaels that if Michaels didn't drop the belt then the two of them would have words. In fact, Calloway watched the main event from behind the curtain entrance and he was taping up his fists ready to kick Michael's behind if Michaels carried through with his threat. However, Michaels dropped the belt to Austin. After that, Calloway untaped his hands and walked away. If Michaels had carried through with his threat then Calloway would physically assaulted him.
The Undertaker is my all time favorite! I saw him live several times, and every time it was always so powerful. He always had the crowd completely in his hands! The first time I saw him live, was also my first live event, Wrestlemania 9....bummer!!! Lol.

@@inbedwithmovies3228 No, he "won", but Wrestlemania 9 is generally regarded as the worst Wrestlemania of all time. I used to live in San Diego, CA, so Nevada was only a 4-5 hour drive. Los Angeles is an even shorter drive, at about 2 1/2 hours; so the other 2 Wrestlemanias I attended were both there: Wrestlemania 12, and 21.

@@inbedwithmovies3228 Primarily appealing to something of a 'niche' market, it's rarely advertised on mainstream channels. Maybe 'the Project' might make mention of it when it's in town, or 'Rove Live' back in the day (he actually participated in one of the early WWE events being a fan himself).
Usually payTV (Foxtel Sports in particular) is/was the place to catch WWE on our TV - but generally the WWE now has its own specialised streaming service online (like everything else these days).
I recall on Sept 11, 2001, it just so happened that Rove was about to interview a retired big name (Bret Hart) in the very next segment after he cut to a commercial break -
but I never got to see it as it was right in the middle of that commercial break that the nonstop live news of the planes hitting the NYC towers broke...
and as shocking as that was obviously (I was 19 at the time) I was actually equally annoyed at never getting to actually see that interview..!!

I was 13 and was hyperventilating because my mum made me go to school the next day and I was worried we’d be next. Very eerie day/s at school after that.
Like the narrator, I also grew up watching the undertaker as a kid through to adulthood, because of the whole global pandemic happening, the Undertaker didn't have the send off he truly deserved ( in front of the fans who loved him) but what the narrator doesn't mention is that even when going out shopping or out to dinner or what not, if a fan came up to him he still kept in his character when interacting with that fan, true legend for sure!
Such a shame. Maybe when everything settles down, he can be brought back, even to referee a match? He deserves to be shown the love.

I was nearly 14 years old when I saw The Undertaker debut on pay per view. Let me tell you, I was on the edge of my seat. Who was this guy? He was so cool! I didn't know anything about him. I knew that he had Brother Love as his manager - who I despised. I knew that he was called The Undertaker. I knew that he was a heel. I knew nothing else but I was an immediate fan.
The Undertaker had a 30 year career that no one will ever replicate. He won multiple titles. He put butts in seats. He main evented numerous times. Here's whats funny. When he was in WCW he was told that he would never ever be a super star. He goes to the WWF and boom he becomes a super star.
I absolutely loved this reaction. The Undertaker is an integral part of professional wrestling.

The Shock master John Tenta better known as Earthquake when he fell that was supposed to be his big reveal. The reason he fell was the wall wasn't 100% breakaway he didn't know and tripped over a 2x4 at the bottom

I'd recommend starting off with the full feud against Yokozuna. While I agree that the Hell in a Cell vs Mankind and the Wrestlemania match vs Shawn Michaels are definitely must watches, that feud against Yoko is what first put him... beyond wrestling, for lack of a better way to phrase it. It was back during his original Deadman gimmick, with Paul Bearer and the urn. Stuck in the middle of all of that is the most bizarre twist, Ted Dibiase (the guy who originally "brought him into the WWF") bringing back a fake Undertaker. While the Undertaker vs. Underfaker wasn't exactly the best match in and of itself, the storyline leading up to it was fantastic. The two matches against Yoko, however, were great. Yoko was a deceptively agile 565 lb. "Japanese sumo wrestler" (Even though he as actually Samoan, and one of Taker's best friends backstage until his death), and Taker has said multiple times that Yoko was his favorite opponent. That was many years ago, so that may have changed towards the end of his career.
Also, as a side note, if you see a Samoan in the WWF/E, they're probably related to the Rock. Either a cousin, or an uncle. Haku, Barbarian, Yokozuna, The Headshrinkers (Samu and Fatu/Rikishi), the Usos, the whole family. And by all accounts, they're all wonderfully kind, warm hearted people..... unless you're an idiot that gets drunk and tries to fight them in a bar. Then they're your worst nightmare. I recommend reacting to "Wrestling Legends tell Haku Fight Stories."

There's talks this year though that they are negotiating some future events. The news article I skimmed about it mentioned Perth as the likely destination.
Tetsuya Naito is a tragic story with a great ending. He made one of the only DEADLY mistakes a pro wrestler can make with the fans in japan.... he TOLD THEM he was "shuyaku" which means "main character" or "top guy", instead of PROVING IT TO THEM in the ring and being annointed Shuyaku by the crowd. they sat on their hands, just "impress me, I DARE YOU" until he fled to mexico for a couple years. he comes back from mexico with swagger, a new look, a new attitude, and a stable of colorful eclectic badasses known as "los ingobernables de japon"; the ungovernables of japan. He's experienced now, so no more pandering to the crowd to get with him, he's "tranquilo". he sweats NOTHING and NOBODY.... and the japanese fans LOVE HIM FOR IT. he can spit in the ring, cheat, throw the title belt around, be as disrespectful as he wants (all things that the fans REALLY DON'T LIKE to the point it can get wrestlers fined or dis-invited from new japan pro wrestling)... because now he IS SHUYAKU.

Oddly enough this was the video that popped up on my recommended list today so I went back and binged this whole little series.
That absolutely was a real reticulated Python. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts had a gimmick where his finishing move would knock his opponent out and then he would put his snake on top of them.
As far as if he got to choose when he won or lost not especially, but he was known to often argue in favor of losing if he felt it was beneficial to the other guy's character or image to beat him at that time.

If you intend on watching some of his matches I'd recommend: Undertaker vs Shawn Michael WrestleMania 25 + 26, Undertaker vs Kurt Angle No Way Out 2006, and Undertaker vs Mankind King of the Ring 1998.

If you decide to check out any of his matches, the first one I would say has to be either against Mankind in the Hell in a Cell from King of the Ring '98, or against Shawn Michaels in the Hell in a Cell from Bad Blood '97. Both were absolute classics.

Mark definitely had input on anything to do with his character/persona. He lived his gimmick, always dressing in dark colors and being cold in interviews pretending he was a mortician. If you have not seen it you should try to see the WWE Documentary series Undertaker: The Last Ride. It really covers his last few years in the business. Wrestlemania is like the World Cup championship or the Superbowl in football. It is the biggest and most hyped show of the year for WWE. WWE does do some events in Australia from time to time. Not sure what city or cities they visit.
Pre-Covid, the WWE would visit Australia once a year. Presumably they will again when it is feasible.

Most wrestlers alternate a few times between 'heel' and 'face' throughout their careers, and though obviously a 'heel' back then, he's stood the test of time, and decades later he's now one of the more respected/liked veterans (though no longer with the WWE).
He's also in a heavy metal band too incidentally (though I doubt that'll assist you in identifying him!).
Don't know if it was literally sold out, but yes, the MCG event (Australia's first) did seem to be quite packed.
Being much wider 'horizontally' than the usual wrestling arena, each wrestler had to walk/run a lot further to and from the ring than normal - that alone would've tested the cardio of the average person..!

While they might be the biggest globally. Don't forget that WWE are not the only game in town. As far as I know Australia has a indi wrestling scene so going to live events is doable, plus to anyone reading this please support you local wresting scene for the health of the industry as a whole.

I need to watch some of Stone Cold's wrestling, I don't really know anything about him.
The whole good guy/ bad guy thing can be a little much at times.
I think that is why I stayed away for so long, I just thought it was over the top pretend fighting and I couldn't understand how anyone would enjoy it.
