The fact that you're worried about it, tells me your girls know you adore them.

Nothing and I mean nothing, not money not material things will ever be enough to replace time spent with your children. Fathers would move heaven and earth to spend that much-needed time with their children, especially their daughters if they only knew how much damage their absence causes. Young children don't care about your money, they just want your time. Don't wonder if your kids know how much you love them, make sure you tell them and keep telling them even if they are angry. And when they have questions answer them honestly and take responsibility for any bad decisions you may have made and ask their forgiveness.

When I heard this song, I thought about my upbringing. I wasn't from a divorced home, but my dad wasn't there for me at all. He always was upset about everything. He cursed God out, yelled, screamed, was unhappy with everything, and made life miserable for my sisters, brother, my mom, and myself. I don't know if he had problems from when he was in the Navy or what. He ended up putting me in a body cast at 3 months old and I was in the hospital for 4 months. He was put in prison and he was never the same once he got out. Unfortunately my dad passed away in 1994 on Christmas Day. I did choose to forgive him because I don't know what he was going through and why he acted the way he did. God forgives us and I chose to forgive my dad.

I am glad you found forgiveness. Forgiveness is a "selfish" act. It is for you. To allow you to move forward and through life
My father, 24 years US AF was not a perfect man. None of us are perfect humans
Sober, a fantastic man full of humor, and intelligence, and very few people did not like him. He was easily very engaging as a sober person
Drunk, an anger and a meanness came out of him. Perhaps life frustrated him and he did not know how to cope. This became more evident after he retired from the military
This man adopted me even when both my mum and him thought I may be autistic with a willingness to give me a 2nd chance of quality living. I am forever grateful for their act.
My childhood, I still considered charmed despite some of his meanness. I did not physically suffer to the point I was hospitalized by it like you. I did periodically get the belt for some perceived wrongdoing that I did feel was unfair because he was drunk. I did get a few emotional dings but I still say, by the standards of other kids, I lived a charmed upbringing. I forgave him many years ago after his untimely death from his alcoholism. He simply was a human with his own demons and he tried his best with what he could do within his own power. It is out of this selfish act of forgiveness, I moved forward in my own life because it holds no sway over me. I wanted to respond in support of your choice to forgive.

@@CommontSense thank you for sharing your life with me. God bless you!! When people choose to forgive, a healing process happens. I believe my dad may have accepted the Lord because of what I chose to do. I pray that he knew the Lord, because he has been gone for many years. He died on Christmas of 1994.

@@lindaharbison2050 My mum is native Irish. The Irish have a wonderful tradition of celebrating The Dash (that little symbol that represents the life lived between your birth date and the death date of someone you love.
Sadly, that small dash poorly represents the in-between. I do hope you found some cherished memories towards the end of his life to sustain you. One never gets over the death of someone they may care about but that dash of memories can help us cope over the course of time after their death.
May you always have moments of joy in your life henceforward

I could see multiple emotions cross your face as you listened to this song. I hope you can listen again without all that comes with comparing yourself to someone who abandoned their child. When you do, hear it only for what she is trying to share of her journey. Your face said it all…the depth of your angst and love. Rest easy, you are not the “father” of her beautiful song.

Kelly can sing any genre. Rock, Pop, Country, Broadway, R&B. If you haven’t already checked these songs out I highly recommend it. Kelly’s Christmas Special 2021 with Brett Eldridge, Ariana Grande and Leslie Odom. “Blessed “ on the Jimmy Fallon Show. Country with Jake Hoot and Kelly “ I would have loved you “ Kelly with Reba “ Because of you “ and “Fancy” at the Kennedy Center Awards. Kelly singing Garth Brooks “The Dance “ at the Kennedy Center Awards. R&B Kelly singing “Love so soft “. Broadway Kelly singing Hamilton “It’s quiet uptown “, Waitress “She used to be mine”, Phantom of the Opera “All I ask of you “. Plus Hosted the Billboard Awards in 2018, 2019, and 2020 with incredible mashups. As well during the pandemic to sing 6 languages over zoom. Sing “I dare you to love” and an ASL one. They are amazing. Great reaction.

I just saw your reaction so I'm a bit late but wanted to say that I don't c my grandson for personal feeling between my so and grandson's mom. She's a good mom so I know he's okay but miss him soooo badly. He'll come to me when he is older I tell myself daily but until then I keep notebooks for him that I write in everyday. I don't ever want him to think his dad's family hasn't and doesn't love him. I share stories from when shared from birth until he was 7. Visitation stopped after that. I write about me and my life and how he is so loved and missed. One day he will receive these notebooks and know he was a always loved and always will be. He's been always in my heart. Your children would have something tangible to hold on to of how much you truly love them. You're kind. They'll feel how much your heart holds for them.🙏

Bless you Darnell. You're doing right by your girls. They know with you staying in their lives that you love them. Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing. 🤗 Kelly's dad walked away when she was a child and never communicated with her again until after she became a successful adult and had a lot of money. Then he shows up decades later wanting some of her money. Sigh.
