    You could build your storage access doors this way too

      You absolutely could but I will build mine a little different, coming soon in a video.

    Your discussion of dealing with altitude changes is absolute gold. I have read that double pane RV windows always suffer seal failures. You are the first person I have ever seen explain why they fail.

    Hi Oscar,
    New to your channel & possible your 1st fan from Africa? Love what you are doing & thank you so much for such great free advise, that I wouldn't have considered myself without you guidance & enthusiasm, we owe you!
    Noomi is the older sister of Oscar, she's an 86' Bullnose Merc 1113 4x4, she's a little jealous of younger brother but thankful for his advise! Her major ambition is to drive from Cape Town to Marrakesh.
    She's still in the early stages of her facelift but quite happy with her phase 1 surgery. Hoping our paths will cross in the not too distant future.

    Hello my new friend. Great video. Thankyou. 17 minutes in, you moved onto fixing the brackets, but I didn't see how you positioned them. Is this quite obvious at the time of fitting?

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you are correct but it is not really difficult, the friction hinge has a triangular shape at the top and only the triangle exceeds the top of the frame in my case. Thank you for your question !

    Have you considered composite windows made of fiberglass? For example, Pella (USA) produces them, model - Impervia.

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I did not, but this window would be a possibility for some people. Not for me because the locking hardware is on the sides of the frame, I need this space for the roll shutter track.

    Thank you, just the topic I needed because as you said the price of windows is outrageous. Plus the freight to Australia for a suitable European product then it goes well beyond the budget for my build.

      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  ปีที่แล้ว

      Budget ? Mine is out the window because I made the budget plan three years ago, nothing is to budget anymore I get a little numb to the prices they call for products. Or I never get it done :-(

    Hi Oscar. Thank you very much for being too generous with your knowledge. Your project is really inspiring and I can't wait to see it on (off) the road!! Have you already any "real in field"experience with swisspacer valves?. I mean, can they really keep moisture away? or because the air flowing through the valve, the humidity inevitably do the same?

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much! I have my air spacers installed but not really put to a test, time will tell but here is what the fabricator said about the moisture
      quote" Swisspacer AIR is a metal sleeve with an integrated special membrane. Its special structure prevents water vapour from being able to accumulate in the cavity between the panes, avoiding the formation of condensation or damage the metallic Low-E coatings. Quote end" www.swisspacer.com/en/products/air#function-air

    Thanks for the great breakdown. Just trying to understand the where to get the base vinyl or aluminum frame 🤔. I know I missed something.
    I did a search but just whole windows came up. Do you think if I swing by a glass shop they might just have the frames?
    How to get bigger frame sizes? I'm in Florida. My searches also include the following terms.
    Awning window vinyl frame
    Awning window aluminum frame
    Custom"x" (insert phrases above)
    Basement x
    Hopper x
    Base window frame only
    Replacement X
    Thanks for going over this and building up my confidence that I could do this too.

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those search terms are excellent but you will be better of if you go to some window fabricator and talk to them, to find a awning window without hardware will be difficult online.

    Hi, really nice tips!!! Juste one question from France ;-) where did you find the white windows frame?

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you and the frame is made by a local aluminum window company. I gave them the needed size and they made it it. I am sure you will find a company near you as well.

    Thanks for the video. I have not yet located a source for extrusions and the SwissSpace vents. I was wondering how you managed, then I saw in another video the Lexario decal on your truck. I guess you have the industry inside track. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have a little inside at Lexario but this company want to follow they're path in case of folding doors, don't wanna get in to the windows. But in case of the swiss spacer I may come up with something but it takes time remind me late spring again. Thanks

    Great channel. Thanks for the videos. We converted a Unicell van, not as ambitious as your truck but I'm slowly improving it! I'm thinking of building your panorama hatch design. I'm wondering where you had your metal bending done, Im in Toronto. Check us out Ontariolakeside. Thanks again

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is awesome! All my metal bending gets done in a flashing shop. A lot of glaziers and roofers order flashings and brake shapes from flashing shops, they are specialised in making precise brake shapes, boxes, pans etc. because the glaziers and roofers don't have the storage capacity's for the sheets or machines.
      Some of those do only thin flashings up to 1/16" not thicker if so, just ask them where they would go for thicker material or even stainless steel bendings. They will help you out especially in the Toronto area there is a ton of those shops. Cheers

    Excellent tutorial. Do you have a source for the window frame extrusions? Or can you recommend a suitable alternative?

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, unfortunately I don't have a recommendation. I would contact the window fabricator and ask them for a frame open out and see what they can offer.

    Hello Oscar,
    if I am informed correctly, the TÜV in Germany only approves windows that have a vehicle approval! Can you tell me where you buy your glass?

    • @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
      @oscaroverlander_MB1222AF  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi thank you for your question. I buy my glass from local suppliers important here is to know that I use tempered glass !!! The TÜV Germany's opinion does not apply where I live. I know they request E2 classified glass which is on the end nothing else as tempered glass with a whole bunch of testing bureaucracy.

    • @MatternjPhoto00
      @MatternjPhoto00 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the approval of the vehicle, whether it is a motorhome or a truck-home and if you have an access hatch to the cabin, the glass must be E2. If you do not have a door and the approval is for a truck-home, the windows can be considered a load, it depends on the engineer and then they do not require approval.
      In any case, there are glass manufacturers that can provide you with a glass with this approval, since they are the same ones that manufacture windows for cars or houses. In Europe there are no more than 50 glass manufacturers.
      It is the expedition window builders who set their prices through them.
