A big thanks to you mr.you saved my snk2 keyboard .i had distortion in all outs .bought a dac from eBay with 10 euro and gave 20 to the technician to replace it and now my sn is alive again.thanks again.
hello ,why you have a yello bridge cable soldering on the two SRAM? i ask because i have output problem with all of the outputs are dead and i have change the DAC and all capisatores ,but not help.have you anny idea? thanks bevor
hi, I can't find information about it if Nova desktop also has the same DAC as the Supernova? that sometimes creaks, I would like to replace it, thanks
Hey man! thanks for your video!! i own a supernova rack too. Well, i have an issue on the release of my amp envelope...sometimes it creates a distorted and endless loop of whatever patch i ´m playing when i set the release too long....do u know what issue can it be??? thanks a lot!
Chris, bravo for sharing this. It appears you'll have saved my SNII rack unit with this information. If the DAC goes bad in the SNII, can a person expect that the replacement will go bad again in the future? Should I order more than one DAC and keep notes to be able to do this again 10-15 years down the road? Thank you
Thank you so much for this video. Does anyone know if this is the same DAC chip on the SuperNova 1? My SN1 is having the crackling sound on the main out, but I cannot find any info as to wether the CS 4391 KZ chip on the SN II is the same as in my SN I
Hi mate, I’m not to far away from getting mine fixed finally, I can find these chips on ebay, although when I have searched the issue on forums, everyone has mentioned that they are 30 pin chips, yet all the chips I find on ebay are 20 pin, (I obviously haven’t lifted the hood on mine yet, so I can’t literally verify that) also, are there chips that I should steer clear of or are they all more or less the same ?? thx in advance !!
Hello, I soldered well number 4 CS4391 DAC, but the Novation Supernova II Pro, continues to be unable to function. My model has a DSP, and two memory chips, more than the video, why? Someone understands something? I remove them? Boh! I'm desperate, I do not know what to do ... The Supernova is a great keyboard, but I can not fix it ...
Hi Chris, I did this repair in a supernova 2 rack but the video when we were changing the DAC got corrupted, would you mind if I use the part of your video when you are changing the DAC, I will not use the audio just the video and I will mention your name/channel in the video to let people know that is your footage. Thanks in advance.
Thank you, that makes it look reasonably feasible for me to attempt, although I noticed a comment from "Emmett Brown" 3 years ago saying there are easier ways of doing it, any idea what he meant? Also, should we be replacing the DAC with a CS4392-KZ chip instead, as stated in th-cam.com/video/MZNFcR22PZs/w-d-xo.html
Hi - I think I got it from Littlediode on ebay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CS4391-KZ-SemiConductor-x-1-pieces-/171286344925?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item27e17634dd hope that helps cheers Chris
Chris King Thanks Chris i did a little research and came across littlediode.com and recieved my DAC chip in the post this morning, finally i can get my Supernova 2 back to its original state :) Thanks very much for the info and making this video, i was gonna do the work myself as i have good experience with soldering as i worked for Motorola for 7 years where i did alot of rework on PCB's etc, but after seeing how small the chip is i've decided to take it puretech solutions who specialize in piano and keyboard repairs so that they can do the work for me. Thxs once again and all the best with the future
Yep - it is small - I use various stereo microscopes and a large illuminated magnifying glass for that type of thing - still difficult though. Hope it works ok - cheers Chris.
gracias por tu video es mui bueno tengo mi supernova v2 averiado con un fuerte ruido de fondo he pedido el chip para repararlo tu video me servira de cran ayuda gracias saludos desde sevilla
on my chip i got symbol 4391kep -- is not sign in goole for it :(((( why. i can see from your video my supernowa II pro is more 3 chips on mother board mayby because i got 48 voice version? what you think can i replace my chip for yours also? i can give you symbols on another 3 chips you can upgrade yours motheboard :)) i think is ready for it
Hi - I repaired this for a customer - I haven't got it anymore so I can't really help. Your chip CS4391-KEP is the correct one. It is on here for example: translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=www.rlocman.ru/comp/shop.html%3Fq%3DCS4391&prev=search hope that helps - cheers Chris.
rvdextron hi. Have had the same Problem. In my Supernova was the chip "4391kep". I couldnt find it on ebay, because the only one was the "CS 4391 KZ". Doesnt matter. Buy it and put it in. It works... Its only another name of the chip. could be a chip for a higher Operating Temperatur or a little other differende. But the design is the same. And it works. Believe it.
Hello finally find a video which shows the correction of recurrent problem in SuperNova2 . I have this same problem on my SuperNova2 , could you tell me if the chip is the same as it is in the rack SuperNova2 ? I live in Portugal and is quite hard to find around here these Dac ! Came across a link here on ebay where this EA sale a Dac in Portugal , could you tell me if this is compatible version of Dac ? Indicates that you must be a : DAC Cirrus Logic CS 4391 KZ . But this says is that is equivalent to this : CS4391A - KZZ 24 - Bit , 192 kHz Stereo DAC can do the repair in my rack2 supernova ? If it fails to make amends with this , porfavor give me a link where I can adequir you have one of these . here is the link where I found the equivalent to your Dac : www.ebay.com/itm/CS4391A-KZZ-24-Bit-192-kHz-Stereo-DAC-with-Volume-Control-CS4391A-/111315204012?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19eae737ac See the link and then tell me something about this. And thanks for the video too .
+Chris King Bit late but for anyone with the same problem:- yes it's the same chip in the rack and keyboard. I have both and they both needed to be replaced. the modern chips are better than the original so they should last a long time. they are very cheap (buy 2 ?)

Awww - I was *really* hoping that the video would end with you turning the unit back on to prove that it is working again! :-) :-)

I've done hand SMD repairs like this too, it's such a faff, so tiny!
Hey, Chris, fellow West Country as well - are you open to doing repairs for this?
My SNII has after 20ish years given up the ghost on channels 1 & 2.
Sorry to hear that - sorry but I'm not doing those kind of repairs anymore - just my own stuff now.
@@christopherjohnking No worries, the video is excellent just need to find an electronic wizard to do it.
thanx a lot mate...much appreciated!!!
