    Possibly the punchiest synth. I owned Nova desktop and Nova XL keyboard which is Supernova II engine.
    This is definitely one of the best virtual analogs ever made. It has it's bugs and weak spots, but there is far more of the good stuff. I find the effects to really work well for synth sounds. I even like the metallic reverb.
    When it came out I remember people complaining that it sounds thin without FX which is definitely not true. It has a very thick sound, thick lower mids, possibly too thick and you have to EQ that out. For me it's the best synth for bases because it punches and has quite a bit of bottom end. The oscillator phase reset certainly helps with this.
    I might get one again.

    Current electronic music is soulless because it doesn't run on circuitry. Virtual instruments with never match up the the real thing, ever! That is the reason why electronic music from the 90s won't ever be beaten in terms of quality and warmth of sounds.

    • @AnalogFlava
      @AnalogFlava 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      plugins sucks!!! Especially all those famous ones...they might be good for certain genres and yes times moved on and gave us stars such as avicii etc. but the soul of the 90s is hard to recreate with plugins only...possible but why not just use real instruments!

    Pure soft synth user here... but, frankly, if i had the money i'd purchase a hardware synth too. There's something about the tactile feeling, that is really attractive, if you only fiddle with virtual stuff.
    Nice sounds there. :)

    • @AiynZahevSounds
      @AiynZahevSounds  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely. It's not just the hands on thing either, you can get midi controllers for example, but there is also something to the sound engines people have developed over the years, not everything is replaceable with something else.

    • @chakko007
      @chakko007 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As you have/had the Mininova too, and, as we all love comparisons :), what do you think about the Mini/Ultranova compated to the Supernova? I watched a lot of videos the last days, and, IMO, the Supernova sounds a bit more "dirty", has more beef, meaning that the envelopes just create a bit more bang with fast decay times, also audible in your video, and, overall, the Mini/Ultranova seems to sound a bit more "bland" in comparison. The price is definitely attractive ATM, you can get the Ultranova for 440 € here in Germany, but, i don't know, the Supernova seems to sound a bit better to me.

    I had a Nova II, but sold it to get a Virus Indigo, eventually it to for a TI 2. Can get much thicker leads out of the Virus, and that was always my problem with Novation synths. They were great for pads, but getting a nice detuned lead out of them was somewhat difficult. It was also somewhat difficult to get them to sound "nasty"
    Always did great bass sounds though.
    for their time, they were massive synths though.

I recently bought a SNII but I can't seem to get my head around how to get that fat detuned sound. My attempts are either too buzzy or sound thin. Also, how do you set init patches as I can't seem to find any on my synth? Thanks.

    • @AiynZahevSounds
      @AiynZahevSounds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beatha5928 at this point I’d need to look in the manual again, but you have to set up unison with free running phase on the oscillators, there’s a mode for the oscillators where each one is 3 detunes waves as well. That and keep the filter resonance at minimum and turn up the high EQ

    • @AiynZahevSounds
      @AiynZahevSounds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I found a part of it again. Novation had a what is now an unconventional way of naming the oscillator behavior. Inside the oscillators settings menu there’s a setting that is either percussive or ensemble. Percussive is phase reset mode and ensemble gives you free running oscillators. A lot of people miss this parameter because it’s buried and I think by default it might be set to percussive. You’ll only get a nice smooth unison in ensemble mode. You’ll find the info on Page 70 of the manual for the supernova 2.

That includes the TI2, the System-8, all of the Nord Leads, the AN1x, the Radias and Kingkorg (and ms2000), the Waldorfs, or anything else.
      It's too bad Novation tried to follow this with the today different, sonically vastly inferior JOKE of synths that don't deserve the Nova names (Ultra and Mini). Those aren't Novas any more than the Gaia is a JP-8000.

      I sold my JP8000. Cool machine but there is other gear out there capaple of so much more.

      Aye, it is an epic monster worthy of its legendary status - use mine all the time. Although for plucks, it's kind of a PIA to work with - have to jump to the Blofeld or Virus for those, cause of that JP filter click. The SN here sounds pretty freakin' sweet for plucks too... might have to get one someday to add into the studio

    i see you have the "Platinum" version of the Supernova 2. They should have kept the whole top as a silver color instead of changing the color of the panel having the voice selection buttons, display and arp controls to dark gray while keeping the lettering as black. God awful hard to read. One of the worst synth design decisions ever made. What were they smoking?

    Say what you want but to me it sounds just like an average VSTi, not even top quality one. I am surprised. Terribly sounding distortion. Sounds so crappy digital it hurts my ears. Not everything that looks like hardware sounds like hardware, chaps!
