No no majority of towers are not powered by electrical lines but do use diesel generators to reinstate battery when it falls and they auto shut down after battery regains

Easy to handle by human
-48v doesn't affect the software of equipment
Negative terminals is less corrosive then positive.
Noise less than +ve
Easy to transmit for long route
Dont effect by heat which doesn't effect call and data quality
