He was invincible till the car accident
That car accident changed his entire career 😢😢
I thought it only had a psychological impact on him, but he had an operation for double/blurred vision caused by the accident. He was indeed invincible until then, he'd win 9 out of 10 games he played...
Malaysia boleh
Wish you all the best Momota…..☺️
You will forever be the hero of badminton, the inspirer for all of us.
Happy retirement Kento Momota……
thanks for this video, hope momota can go back his peak!
He is retired
.
Happy Retirement ❤
Will miss watching you play
GOAT 👍
At this point, Kento momota was on his way to becoming a Badminton GOAT. In 2019, Kento momota won a record 11 international titles and was the reigning world number one 🥇 and world champion 🏆. He was a class above the rest of the players.
Two days later, Kento momota was traveling to the KL international airport in a van together with other officials. The driver of the van crashed into the back of a lorry and was instantly killed in the accident. Kento momota suffered a fracture on his eye socket and other injuries. The tragic accident ended Kento's brilliant run and he has never been the same again. Fate has not been kind to Momota.
Momota has been through many ups and downs. Gambling scandal, sex scandal with female teammate and finally a tragic car crash.
These days, Kento crashes out in early rounds and lose to unknown players.
😢😮😢😮😢😮
But he won 1 tournament at 2023 which is Korea Masters by defeating Koki Watanabe in the finals ...
the japanese magician won't be forgotten
Good momota
Yeap, he was unbeatable at one point in time. And now, BAM achieved their ultimate goal. Malaysia boleh...
and he took retirement today without a comeback for which we were waiting for 4 years 😢😢
I never understood why he got an 18 month ban for gambling in an illegal casino. I understand country rules must be respected, but couldn't they just ban him from playing in Japan? The guy was robbed...
Yeah they destroyed him really…
Japan likes to portray athletes as objects of admiration for teenagers, and as a public character, any act of moral depravity is forbidden
@@ChangRunFu But he's a professional athlete isn't he? They could've just banned him from the national team and local competitions. The BWF tour is different and should be independent of the Japanese federation.
I disagree here. He was not robbed of anything and he himself would never refer to the ban (which btw was indefinite, he was not guaranteed to compete for Japan ever again) in such a way.
I think some context is important:
In Japanese culture the responsibility of an individual is taken very seriously, the social standard is different.
In a press conference (of the involved players, Kenichi Tago and Konto Momota - not to defend themselves but to apologise!), Kenichi Tago accepted any and all punishment and only pleaded to give Momota another chance. Tago was later removed from the athlete's register by the Japanese Badminton Association.
The reason for lifting Momotas ban after 400 days was his behaviour during that time. Had he not shown improvement and dedication, the ban would not have been lifted.
tbh, the way he dealt with the situation impressed the hell out of me.
No denying or trying to minimise the infringement, no discussing the outcome except for apologising and accepting the outcome.
The car accident however, was tragic indeed. My first thought was "Oh come on, just give him a break already."
He didn't in fact go to the illegal casino, he was forced to by a friend, who admitted to it. But Japan being Japan wouldn't let this go. Followed by his accident 😞. I will always cheer for Momota. He'll always be my favorite.

Most lucky guy
Another Tragic Hero in Badminton: Lee Chong Wei
no way bro. Just because he doesn't have an Olympic gold doesn't mean he is tragic. He was world number 1 for 396 weeks and has 69 world titles. Thats now way tragic
@@sujaynis3905 0 gold medals in tier 1 tournaments. no Olympic gold, no world championships gold, no Asian gold.
In comparison Lin Dan has x2 Olympic golds, x5 world championship golds, x5 Asian games golds. Big difference.
@@joyboi2708Because he unwilling against Lin dan and Chen Long it's good to have a maintain medals and world titles got record no.1 then aiming winning the precigious tournament just like indo pair kevin/marcus
@@muhdfaizazhari1743
With all due respect, I do not understand what you're trying to say.
LCW was unwilling to win? So you are accusing him of not trying his best?
Did you hear this from the player? Sounds like absolute nonsense.
At least he got 2 times world champion. Lee chong wei dont even have one
HS Prannoy is another underrated player
never reach the success momota got
@@ChangRunFuBut he maintain the rank and playing style.
Irrelevant.
This is about Momota, not about Prannoy.
i saw a video where he admits that he thought abt quiting badminton in 2019 becoz of financial problems.he wasnt sponsored or given any support by india till 2020+ i guess.so bad coz he could have done much more if he was given a chance when he was younger
