    As a fellow proletarian (aka broke 😀) gamer, I liked how you talked about the parallel between virtual and real life economy with paying the rent and keeping things up-to-date. Maybe the modesty of LOTRO's graphics isn't total loss, esp. for us poor gamers, as we can enjoy LOTRO even on a potato. While SWOTR might have objectively better "graphics", i don't know if its style/art is any better than LOTRO's. There is something about the overall ambience of LOTRO that pulls me in (and I have barely left the starting areas and usually play it in 768p at 15 fps just to keep my potato pc cool - haha and to see the UI). Anyway, great comparison - both are great games!

      Love that. Yeah maybe I should’ve elaborated on LOTRO Vs. SWTOR graphics. I have no issues or complaints on the LOTRO graphics. But in comparison, SWTOR has a greater style and graphic quality that can uphold longer than LOTRO’s. I think most people may agree with that. But either way, I personally could care less about graphics. If the game is good and the story is good, I love it! I hope that clears some of that up as people seem to think I’m taking an absolute potato on LOTRO for that comment :)

    About the events in SWTOR. SWTOR has a feast festival event, similar to a LOTRO's fall festival. And a Life Day event where you hug woookies. We're currently going through a nightlife (gambling) event. We also have a swoop bike event. It's not just the zombie event and the bounty hunter event.
    Regarding being "maxed out". When you hit level 80, you're not maxed out. That's actually where the end game begins. It takes a long minute and work to get to 339 rating. And you won't get there by story. This is where subscribing becomes important.

    • @aubreytheweirdone
      @aubreytheweirdone  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Thanks for sharing!! I do always enjoy nightlife event. I spaced on that making this video, but I overall just have a way more enjoyable time with LOTRO's events more. Yeah, being maxed out is where there is more content available however, the content is poorly done in my opinion. Once I get through Iokath and Crisis on Umbara's little stories, I pretty much have no reason to continue. I was hoping with Malgus they'd make it better, but doesn't seem to be the case yet.

    If anyone is looking for MMOs they can sink their teeth into for Story, than both The Lord of the Rings Online & Star Wars: The Old Republic are great for such. Granted, SWTOR is best for the Early Class Stories and begins to fall off more later.
    For LOTRO in the 2nd Half of 2023, there is a lot coming to the Game ranging from a New Premium Housing Area for Hobbits along with the River Hobbit Race (the Hobbits who remained East of the Misty Mountains & who Gollum is apart of), a Stat Squish (No Level Squish), Crafting Events, Crafting Updates, a New Class the Mariner, the Umbar Expansion (LOTRO heading into the lands of Harad), Level 150, more Class Revamps, and more.
    LOTRO does still have Ongoing Game Performance Issues or what Players refer to as Lag, which the SSG LOTRO Team (Standing Stone Games) are always doing work to combat but it's an Ongoing Process and there is no way to get things Performing better in a far quicker matter. They are chipping away at the Issues as fast as they can.

    Fair assessment, however, in swtor you can buy things that come from the cartel market off of the player market with in game currency. The in game economy is in rough shape since the server merge, but even with that condition there are items attainable through game play that will sell for high value which you can then use to purchase things on the GTN that are from the cartel market. Otherwise I get your point. Just don't think it's impossible.

    • @aubreytheweirdone
      @aubreytheweirdone  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s fair. I think I don’t even consider the GN because the market is crazy on there and everything is overpriced. Especially when there’s a credits cap on free and preferred accounts so that may be why I didn’t include it here.

      SWTOR is a little bit more solo friendly than LOTRO, but I have soloed LOTRO for majority of the game's life of 16 years. People find LOTRO more boring soloing in comparison to SWTOR cause SWTOR has all the cool cutscenes and choices with your story, while LOTRO is more reading and lore minded solo story gameplay.
      If you enjoy the lore, gameplay, and story quests you won't have a problem soloing in LOTRO as the combat is hardly difficult like it used to be any way.

      In my opinion, LOTRO. SWTOR makes you level fast and I cannot get access to some of the more recent stuff. Not only that there’s so many restrictions to some pretty important stuff. Like crafting-I can only have two crafting classes instead of 3. Hurts my potential of earning. LOTRO’s got some of those things too, but nothing like SWTOR in my opinion.

    Well, I have played both on and off since the early days. I played LotRO from the year after release '08), and SWToR from just after Hutt Cartel (so '13 I think). I enjoy both and really quite like the graphics of both - Star Wars is supposed to be far future and LotRO is essentially past (albeit someone else's past), so I'm happy with them like that. Definitely agree about the Strongholds, some of the LotRO houses are laughably small (esp. the elven ones). For player numbers - (L) bigger maps = lower density, (S) popularity with younger players (and classic olders) = higher pop, but likely shorter lived. LotRO has a wider variety of activity types, which makes me happy. Also, and my biggest yesno is I find LotRO more kinship oriented, it seems friendlier; whereas SWToR just seems to be group when it's convenient - and guilds seem to be smaller too. Also, with all the LotRO servers being stateside it feels like extra lag, but I'd rather take it. Let me explain, the US community does seem to be cooler with certain things, but the ping makes it almost impossible for me - 120 compared to 9 here. By the time I've responded to something it's sometimes moved on, or attacked me. However, last time I got back into it (during covid) I really hit it hard and did the Legendary achievement (I think) getting all classes to 50 in little more than 6 weeks - put the label on and took it off again in 3 days. I was so sick of people saying I couldn't be trusted to understand my characters properly. But I'd watched a lot of players, like swtorista etc, and people were more 'high five' about it from what I saw on screen. I imagine I shall go back to it soon - possibly mix the two up and see what happens. 😁

      Love swtorista. Yeah the communities are very different. I have found the LOTRO one more friendly to an extent in comparison to SWTOR personally. Completely agree with your points. I think I personally enjoy LOTRO more than SWTOR. At the moment I am playing SWTOR alot more than LOTRO because I've got a friend of mine to play SWTOR which has increased the playability for me. LOTRO im taking at a very steady pace but it's all part of the journey which I love because there is always something new around the corner. I love SWTOR for the multiplayer aspects flashpoints, dailies and heroics and joining a friend in their story and PvP. I know in LOTRO there are similar versions of these but just a bit more accessible to do with a friend or other people in SWTOR. Anyway just enjoying both games 😊. Level 64 on LOTRO is taking some time though ive noticed, it is quite a vast area. The quests at that level seem to be a bit sparse. I am probably not looking in the right areas.

    As far as SWTOR: Too bad their work staff has been decreased. Working in IT SERVICES, when support staff is reduced, service sucks because you cannot meet the expectations. Same in this game. So the people to blame is Management who make the decisions. If you like grindy games, go play Black Desert. Everything takes effort, RNG and long processes to progress.

    As a beta tester and lifetime membership owner of both games I agree with most of what you say. The finer points: SWTOR may not have the immense zones but they use what they have well by putting in things that reward exploration and trying "silly"" things like, you know, jumping on a certain balloon, riding it to a certain place, making a difficult jump to get a cool item. That sense of accomplishment was outstanding! As for the number of classes, SWOTOR has far more. The Dark Side ( I know, I know ) have classes that play very differently than the light side. Finally.... Spaceships. C'mon!!! - Take care!

You need to put lot off effort to get it. And even if you do you need augments to make it even better with correct stats for DD/HEALER/TANK and each class need specific purple gear.

    As someone who has played swtor for 8 years, I can say that lotro is much better in my opinion. I guess it’s up to the preference, but after 7.0 expansion in swtor, game has become very bad. If you’re new, you should play it, but returning players will just get mad and quit.
    Too many game breaking bugs are present, enemies get invisible so you cannot kill them, desync in raids is terrible, some nightmare raid bosses don’t work properly because of it and many more. Problem is these bugs don’t get fixed. They just pile up, and the game gets like 1 update per year, max 2.
    I agree with you that leveling in lotro is better, swtor is way too fast and way too easy. You can press 2 buttons and kill anything, which never makes you learn your class properly, unless you start doing nim raids.
    The only worth swtor has now are the original class stories.
