I know what you mean. A lot of times black girl main characters can get hate, because sometimes those characters are just used as a way to push political messaging. And the characters themselves aren't even written to be likeable, but bitchy and preachy instead. Because the writers want to lecture you.
And black girls suffer because they don't get normal characters who aren't either, option A. Stereotypical angry rude black girl or option B. Tool for political messaging. (And that's not even mentioning some people are just full on racist to them.) It's usually one of the two though, and I was afraid Marie would be option 2, but to my surprise the writers prioritized her character above everything else. She wasn't stereotypical, she was complicated and human. Bravo!
