  • A DRO on your quill will make your work more accurate and limit the risk of ruining a part your working on. Ive had one of these on my Bridgeport for over a year, and have had this one sitting in a box just as long... I finally installed it and showed you how.
    See below for links on where to get one. As an amazon affiliate I earn from qualifying purchases:

    Ordered from your link on Amazon and got it next day. Your video really helps as the printed directions are not so good.
    Took about 20 minutes to adjust and sort out.
    Works well!

    Hey dude, I realize some of your videos don’t get a ton of views so I just wanted to convey I really appreciate your content. I don’t have anyone in my life with the same building, engineering and fabrication interests so I have learned a lot from you. Keep it up. Thank you

    Need to get around to mounting the cheap x/y DRO I have laying around, modified some cheap manual calipers(dremel diamond-bits to make the mounting holes...) and mounted that to my milling machine quill, and this worked so well I'm not even considering replacing them with a DRO...

    Great video and to the point! I just installed mine but I am disappointed that the display is not at all bright. I need to adjust my body down a ways and a bit off to the side to get a readable display, which sucks really. Fresh battery. Might return because of this.

    The things that exist, i personally considered using a linear position sensor or something similar with a digital readout that is powered by the machine either AC/DC as i struggled to find a DRO that could do 4 axis that didn't cost both my arms and a leg haha.
    Keep up the videos, they are easy to follow and not everyone can do that

    I got so excited i almost bought one... then i realized i don't have a bridgeport...yet
    Definitely thinking about one for my planer though, the scale is pretty vague on that one.

    I got the same unit on my Bridgeport clone and it needed a sleeve turned up because they made the hole in my mill bigger for some reason.. mine came with a flat battery too but my only real complaint with it is the little rubber cover over the micro usb port keeps popping open so I might just put a tiny drop of glue on it since it'll never need to be used anyway

  • @sturmdavid
    @sturmdavid 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A scale is accurate enough for spindle work. You should always leave the spindle locked at full-up, and use the knee for depth of cut adjustments. That is why they put a 0.001" reading dial on the knee, just like on the hand-wheels for the X and Y axis. Most machinists know this.

      I'm thinking now you're probably right. The incremental setting is handy though.

    Only down side is it blocks the ability to use that stop, or put on one of those split thread clamps that you can use as a quill stop.... typically you position the stop, bring the quill down against the stop, bring the knee up and touch off, raise the quill out of the way, dial in your depth with the knee, then use the hard stop on the quill to work to....

    • @MakeEverything
      @MakeEverything  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely still use the stop, it’s just a little harder to get to it. I use the stop on my Bridgeport with this DRO all the time without issue.

    Thanks for sharing this video. I have an import column mill that came with a similar spindle DRO installed. I've done some DRO vs. dial indicator validation measurements and found some discrepancy with the digital and am now rethinking the accuracy of it. Did you happen to do any verification of measure when you first installed this unit? I'm considering buying the Mitutoyo version just to hopefully eliminate a quality issue. Would love to hear your experience on this.

    Since you have 4 DROS are you going to have them CNC.

    That's legit! Now I want to put a DRO on my drill press!! Lol. Except it wouldn't do any good. Since my drill press didn't even have a depth stop, or lock to hold the drill in any downward position..
