    I rode the 2016 factory today. Unbelievable! love the power, sound, fit, everything. Yes there are negatives but what bike doesn't have them? THIS bike SCREAMS... MOTORCYCLE! I love the factory paint. Getting really close to buying. Thanks DoDC good reviews.

    I took delivery of my 1100f about two weeks ago and wanted to thank you for this review. It was, in so small part, a factor in my choosing the 1100f. You speak intelligently, succinctly and knowledgeably.
    Riding around the canyons of Los Angeles has been a dream on this bike - for all the reasons you point out.
    Being a Brit, I must admit that Baron Von G is my fav, but you get a v close second!

    Great review !! I test rode the factory demo 2 weeks ago and signed the papers after that ride , Just had my 1100 factory delivered the other day . Incredible bike !!

    Great review, thanks so much for posting this! I'm currently riding a BMW s1000r but considering this as my next bike. While I love the s1000r and have put nearly 10,000 miles on it I'm looking for something that is just more unique and thrilling to ride. The Tuono's sound alone is reason enough to buy this bike in my opinion. I'm going to test ride one in the next 2 weeks for sure!

    This is one of the sport bikes that has really captured my attention. I'm a newer rider so it's a bit much right now, but it really is beautiful and the numerous glowing reviews including this one make me really interested in getting one. The R1M looks really lovely too.

    aprilia is a great bike, i have a 2003 futura, its a 1000cc rsv engine and it hates to go slow as well! this is my next bike! i will keep my other aprilia. i really think aprilia has been so under rated! its known as the honda of italian bikes! this is a great deal! factory all the way! great video!

    I work in that area. It's nice to see you riding a bike on roads that I drive on everyday. When I was looking to buy a new bike in 2012, I wanted to buy this bike, but the closest dealer was about 150 miles away in western Maryland. So I bought a 2012 CBR1000RR. I sold that bike last year and told myself I am done riding. Now this....

    Nice review! I test rode the old and new Tuono back to back recently and felt very similarly. Also, they've changed the riding modes on the new Tuono, where yours was Road, Sport, Track they're now (on the new 1100) Sport, Track, Race. Unfortunately they're represented with the same letter designations on the dash but 'R' mode on the 1100 is the most aggressive and with the least amount of engine braking. But I found I liked the other two modes better when I rode anyway.

Damn, I had completely forgotten about that, especially after R (Road), S (Sport), and T (Track) being ingrained into my memory over the last half year lol. Sport was a great deal of fun on the 1100, and it explains why I was still feeling so much aggression from the throttle when I thought I was in "Road" mode haha.

      +Pete K Actually the 'S'port map is more aggressive but has more engine braking. T is a mix of S/R and R is the least aggressive throttle with the least engine braking. Contrary to common thought, you want the throttle on a race bike to be very predictable and linear, even though you are often just rolling throttle on to full - you don't want steps or extra power when you're at the limit.

      Steve C i agree with you for what u want on a track is not nessessery an agressive throttle response but your wrong with the( Sport Mode) the engine map S has a gentel power delivery recommend use on road condition and low grip surface .(Came from my owner manual)

    Nice review, and thanks! Great to see that notification come across on TH-cam. I have the 2016 1100 RR, not the Factory. I would normally lean towards buying the up spec version for 2-3 grand more (the Factory/RF), but with this bike the fully adjustable suspension on the RR version is quite good, which makes it a tougher decision. The looks of the Factory are also a major 'factor', but I find plenty of appeal in the aesthetics of the RR version. The Factory model is cool looking no doubt. If I like the RR as much as i think I will, eventually I'll upgrade to the Factory model. I tend to keep my bikes for quite a while. The sound is intoxicating and your video does a nice job of capturing it, both on your V4R and on the 1100 V4RF. Was down at the dealer yesterday and they still have a V4R in white...that white is awfully nice so I wouldn't part with it too quickly. Thanks for the review and the enthusiasm ('Lord Have Mercy')...yes indeed...Amen!

      +gsgoinwest It is a really tough decision and the only main difference in performance is the Ohlins, so really unless you're going to track it, I think you made the right choice. That $3,000 could go to a lot of other awesome upgrades (full akro system, cough cough haha). I'm also really digging my V4R in white, aside from the fact that I have a really strong bond with my bike as well. Glad you enjoyed the review!

    +jerryx2000 I've gotten this question a few times, and as the time continues to pass since I have been on an S1000R, I hope my answer remains unbiased. I do, without question, love my Tuono and the new 1100 Factory is just that much better (as is the 1100 non-factory). The Tuono is savage, unique, smooth, and raw. The S1000R is calculated, pressie, comfortable, and well groomed. It all comes down to what you will be using it for, and how you ride. I commute on my Tuono and it's not always the best option, where an S1000R would thrive. That being said, the sound and range of power that the Tuono has is incredible. At the end of the day, they are both incredible machines, but for the money I would buy a 2016 Aprilia Tuono 1100RF before spending more for the S1000R. Hope this information helps, and let me know what you decide!

      +DukeOfDC I agree. I like my bikes to have character and outside the racetrack, the inline-4s are just so sedate and sterile in environments where they can't be fully used. Not to mention that the 1100 F was a half second faster around a race track with Michael Rutter at the controls in a recent test, if you decide that's your jam.

      +DukeOfDC I would also say that, in terms of all day ergos, the S1000R has terrible vibration in the handle bars. Completely turned me off from buying one.

      +gigafinger666 add weight on bar and you are done with vibration...this is common issue on INL4 bikes...S1KR have this issue at 6000-7000rpm mark.
      Tuono vib all the way due to the engine hehehe.

      I would buy the S1000R if it had the exhaust sound of the Tuono because I love all it's features but for the money I'd rather get the Tuono Factory

      install a power commander and get the fueling right then it won't boil as quick.....they run lean from the factory to pass emissions which causes them to run extremely hot. it's an issue with most bike not just the Aprilia.

      Thanks for the info, we hardly get to work on many Aprilia's at my shop, mostly Japanese and Victory motorcycle. I wasn't aware the RSV4's were lean, so I will definitely toss the next one that comes thru on the dyno!

      Doesn't get as hot, but still a hot bike. The frame being exposed hurts a bit because your legs are right on it.

      I use a dedicated sony lapel mic that is then routed into my GoPro Hero 4 silver. It is placed right in front of my mouth

    Nice review mate! I was fortunate enough to have a decent ride on one of these just recently here in New Zealand, and it's pretty much ruined me for other bikes...Awesome in the twisties, civilised around town, and that engine is a work of automotive perfection.
    BTW, I think your tone is spot on for your likely audience, a relaxed conversational style like BvG will get you the most subs (sub'd). Cheers!

      +DukeOfDC The road network is predominately single carriage way and closely follows the contours of our pretty raw countryside, so it's awesome! The govt is also kind enough to signpost suggested speeds on most tight corners so you can press on with some confidence, even on back roads. On the flip side, it's very easy to lose your licence....

      Thanks that is very good to know. I am north of 100mph daily. I have a speed triple and at 130mph the wind is just too much. I considered getting the RSV4 but the Tuono is more practical for where and how I ride. Thanks for answering my question… very helpful

    I'm in the fence. 16 v 17. RR v Factory. Is the quickshifter/blipper on the 17 worth it? Corner abs? Ohlins v Sachs? Not planning any track days but don't want to miss out on a "better" bike given the "investment" involved with getting an Aprillia

    Just out of curiosity, what's your height/weight and how did you feel about the ergonomic comfort? I'm 6'2" and have heard that the Tuono might be too cramped for me.

      +Gregory Nemish You're much taller than I am. I'm 5'9" 185lbs and this thing fits me just right. Although I wouldn't shy away from this bike just yet. 650ib (awesome motovlogger from Ohio) bought a new RSV4 RF and he's at least 6'2" if not taller and loves the thing. Go check his stuff out if you're looking for a taller opinion haha. Of course the RSV4 and Tuono have different ergos, but if he likes the RSV4 he would love the Tuono.

    Just sold my Ducati Monster 1200 S and looking for my next ride. I’m considering a 2016 Tuono Factory or a 2015 BMW S1000RR. Both are pre-owned and about the same price. Which would you buy and why? I don’t plan on tracking either bike so it will just be for street riding. Would love to hear your thoughts. I’ve owned an RR before but never an Aprilia. Thanks!!!     Duke, just getting around to seeing this review. I was interested as I test rode a '14 a year or so ago and was much impressed. I have now the Beemer S1000r, and an MV Agusta Brutale 800. So, I am thinking that perhaps the MV goes to an Aprilia in a year or so....but questions on the '16 Tuono (if you remember).
    1. The seat, is it more comfortable than your bike? I ask as that was one standout from my test ride. That '14 seat was like a 2X4 covered with a patch of leather. At my age there is no way that I was gonna be able to sit on that for more than 50 or so miles at a time.
    2. Ergo's. The forward lean on the '14 Aprilia was rather pronounced. Do you sit more upright on the newer model?
    3. Seat height. I am 5'10" and the '14 was just a trifle tall, I could not quite flat foot at stops.
    Thanks for any answer. I am still trying to get my local dealer to give me a test ride on the new model but it seems they literally get them one at a time.....

      +Garey Cooper Hi! Welcome to the channel. I'll do my best to answer the questions that you have. As for your ergo/comfort questions, the 1100 is substantially improved in the comfort department. the geometry is more forgiving and the forward lean less pronounced. The seat is much more comfortable. A lot of 1000cc owners have been upgrading their seats to the 1100 stock seat as it is even an improvement on the previous comfort gel upgrade. In terms of the height, you should not have any issues with this bike, and I'm surprised you had an issue with the 2014. I'm at least an inch and a half shorter than you and although I can't flatfoot my bike, I don't have an issue comfortably and safely coming to a stop.

    Niiiiice buddy. Your downshift blips are spot on, I can tell there's been a lot of practice there.
    For me the paint job is a little busy, but I'd have those Ohlins bouncers in a blink on my V4. There's not enough new meat on the bone to temp me to trade my 2014 Tuono, but I love seeing the bike go from strength to strength and keep up (and beat) the competition.

      +VeeFour Thanks for noticing man!! Yeah, I have been working on getting that technique down quite a bit lol. It is a really great bike, but you're right, It would be difficult to justify the trade. You could buy Ohlins and have them fitted to your 1000 for less than the price difference between a trade in for the RF haha

      +DukeOfDC or for an even bigger saving, fit Ohlins internals to your stock Sachs units.....or just stick with stock which are perfectly serviceable, and spend all the money saved on fancy pants and artisan bespoke hammers. That way you'd still have a kick ass bike, plus your trouser and hammer collection would be fully upgraded :)

    I thought the closest Aprilia dealer was in Western Maryland. Never knew there was one relatively close in Clarendon. That puts Aprilia back in the running for teh next bike

      +soopa doopa LA Moto is relatively new, and previously only sold Vespa scooters, however now they car everything from Aprilia's to Ural's. It's a great dealership, that you should definitely check out if you're in the market for an Aprilia!

    Do you think it can make a first bike? I really don't want to spend time and money on lower cc bikes and just get down with Tuono for a long time. Have zero bike experience, but if I take performance riding+safety classes, do you think I can make it my first one? I also consider Street Triple or Speed Triple, but Tuono is just so much more attractive in my ears and eyes.

      I understand the fear of not wanting to be changing bikes frequently, but there is a benefit to starting with a lighter, less powerful, less expensive bike. I would suggest of the three you list, the street triple (used) be your first bike option.

    Hey Duke, the 1100 should have more power where it needs to be, at mid range--- around 8k rpm. More torque and power than the 1000 is what I understand. I hope to get the Tuono or the RSV4. Thanks for the great review.

      +eric santos I'm glad you enjoyed the review, and good luck getting your new Tuono or RSV4! On paper I am sure that the 1100 makes more mid range power, however under normal street riding conditions it wasn't as much present. That being said, the smoother power delivery of the 1100 is INCREDIBLE and in my opinion one of the top reasons a 1000cc tuono rider should upgrade (myself included).

    Loved your review. looking to purchase a naked bike within the next few months. Right now I'm doing research on some of the other naked bikes out their. I've had my eye on them BMW s1000r about to test ride one this weekend and I think I wanna test ride the Aprilia naked also. very nice looking bike! I really like the quick shift very smooth from what you showed in your video. If you had to choose between the BMW or Aprilia? Great review keep up the good work!

As for choosing, that's all on you, but might I add that the 2017 Aprilia Tuono just got an awesome refresh that makes it very comparable to the s1000r and even exceeding it in some categories.

    I got rid of my 2012 Tuono for a 2014 Victory high ball because the dealer support was atrocious. Though the Victory is an incredible machine in ways you might not expect (because its very unsophisticated in comparison) I have been missing the ape. I was looking at the new sv650 but now a new Aprilia dealer is in town it intrigues me to give the ape another try. I miss the unique Tuono front end! It's too much of a RSV now. The price is a lot more these days (got mine for $12k new in 2013), is it worth the price difference?

      +Ill06Taco Are you from the DC area? The new LA Moto Aprilia dealership has a great team, so the dealership support issue has been resolved in this area. You could always still find a used Tuono from the 2012-2015 timeframe, before the 1100's came out.

      +DukeOfDC Not even close, Las Vegas. They went away completely a few months after trading it in so it was a good decision. But they are back at another dealership starting this year so maybe they will be better. The sole dealer where I got it from I had to pull teeth go get warranty repairs. They refused to replace my fuel tank after it started to bubble, they refused to reseal my oil pan after it started to seep. They never returned my calls and they had my bike for 8 weeks at a point without calling me. This is after the sales team lied to me about my credit and I ended up paying 3 times the interest that I should have.

      Ill06Taco The best way to answer that is to ask if you'll ever track the bike. If not, go with the RR. The RF is incredibly cool, but unless you're gonna track it, or if you ride like a pro, it's not a necessity

      +DukeOfDC I'm in the market for a sport tourer, like a Multistrada or S1000XR, but I recently checked out the Aprilia Caponord too, and I happened to look at the new Tuono while I was there. I found myself half trying to convince myself that the Tuono would make a great tourer. Awesome bike.

      +dinonoce Ooooo yeah that would be a tough choice, because you could get an 1100 Factory for a couple grand less than the S1000XR or Multistrada and add a few touring bits for a great "wanna be" tourer. That being said, the S1000XR was really something else, and by far the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden (including the vibration in the bars). I haven't been on the new Multi though, and it's a technological & mechanical wonder. Tough choice!

      +dinonoce What a coincidence. I have tested all three of those adv/tourers since August. I was certain I would end up with a multistrada. Though I also tested some other BMWs, the super Duke 1290r, a monster 1200s with full termis, and looked at a few others but I kept thinking about the Tuono. I found the motor intoxicating. I came from a vtwin and wanted something different. Tested the white 1000 just like what Duke has. Then read about the 1100 because I was interested in the ohlins and liked the idea of more low end power. Plus the seat is night and day better at least for my butt. Picked up a factory on Black Friday. Figure maybe my next bike will be a mileage monster but i am not getting any younger so if I was gonna go for a true sporting bike now was my chance. Plus it is actually cheaper than the multi and the R1200GS which were the only other two bikes I liked enough to buy.

      +saisr1 I think I'll end up with Multistrada, S1000XR, or the Super Duke GT (although I've heard it won't arrive to NA until fall of 2016). I've already got a 2010 BMW S1000RR and a 2007 Ducati SportClassic 1000S. I want something comfortable to tour with and easy enough to commute with, but I'm not ready for bigger sport tourers like the FJ1300's or Kawi Concours. I've done some "light" touring on the S1000RR, and it's okay for a couple of days, max. I guess I'm getting soft as I get older. Believe me though, I tried to convince myself that the new Tuono could do it all for me, but in my head I know I'd be wishing I was on that Multi after a 10 hour day. But I still think DukeOfDC should trade his in on the new one!

      +cjwagner This is tough lol. I would say if you have the money anyway, and you are paying outright that you should get the 1100RF. If it were an argument between the 2014 and a 1100RR I would say go with the 2014.

      +cjwagner Ehhhhh, you know what, no it isn't. I think if you bought a 2014 1000cc V4R for $10k you would love it that much more because that's a great deal. Honestly though, the RF is an amazing machine and the shiny new toy of the bunch. It's a tough call.

    I'm torn between the s1000r and the tuono 1100rr, I test rode both and my head say bmw while my heart say aprilia, the soud of the tuono is insane and it has a lot more character than the bmw. The bmw on the other hand seems a better everyday bike.

      the 821 is my first bike, around 800 miles on the clock last couple of months, so far it has been great. No complaints really, now that I am riding I guess there is a higher awareness of all the options in the market so keep wondering if the all ohlins suspension of the 1200s and more power would have been worth spending the extra or not.. but yeah you can check out my 821 if you want to do a first ride/review video

      Daniyal Syed I was looking at the 821 last year when it came out. I personally think it's a great bike on paper. From what I have experienced with more high end extras like Ohlins, is that you really only need it if you're going to be riding in that 95 percentile of intensity. As a first bike, you did right to save your cash, and I's stick with the 821 for another couple thousand miles.
      Would love to take yours out for a spin! Maybe we can meet up for a ride in the next couple weeks, if not then in early spring.

      +Windy Run I would say the 2015 R (Road) mode has it's benefits for sure and I was pretty surprised that is was traded in for the new R (Race) mode. Still a bit choppy at slow speed, but the new 1100 is just smoother across the board, so it's negligible.

      +DukeOfDC as of right now I am leaning towards the 1100 just because of the refinement.
      I definitely put seat time in like you. I had put somewhere around 5,600 mi. in the 5 months I had my 2015.
      If it was just a weekend toy I would probably lean towards another 2015.

    My dealer said the V4 engine wasnt really supposed to run well below 3000 rpm. And since its 13;1 cr, that makes sense.

      +Jeremy D 13.8:1 compression for the new motor, iirc. The new motor is much smoother at high rpm than the old one and generally accelerates more aggressively.

    It should be R(Road) on the Tuono. The RSV4 got the R for Race I think but on the Tuono R stands for Road and is the lowest power mode :).

      I thought that too, but apparently for the 1100 they made R (Race). On my "old" 2015 Tuono V4R it's the low power Road mode. Strange that they'd get rid of that.

      +DukeOfDC It's strange that they ever had it. The bike has an 8-way traction control system. Put it in '8' and hold the throttle to the stop in 1st gear in any kind of corner and see what happens... it'll moan, the TC light will blink and the bike will not go anywhere.

    Edit i must ask, that is your camera settings...Or are youtube change that video image quality, or are those cameras in bad setup. I have notice this problem now days, maybe it are for those new cameras or youtube are in some way change those video image setup, when i watch this in 720p, that image quality are bad when you move, i dont know are that 60pfs reason, or what...

      +MAD MIKE So my camera is setup at 1080p 60fps Superview, and I even upload in a TH-cam preferred codec/bitrate, but I totally agree with you that this video came out a little choppy. The pre-uploaded version looks MUCH better, so it must have happened after TH-cam compression occurred.

    What I don´t like on the Aprilia tuono is that the buttons and the dashboard is not as premium as on a BMW s1000r. I mean exactly the tuonos buttons are on my 8000$ Gs g650.

      +MaxM I'd say the buttons don't bother me as much, but I agree with you on the dashboard. The BMW S1000RR/R dashboards are so so so nice.

    you can actually permanently open the valve, just disconnect the wires and clip on a ESE

      Thanks. I am going to have to make my way to the Aprilla dealer so i can test drive and see this v4 factory in person because the web is probably not doing the styling any justice. I was at the dealer looking at a S1000R but at that price point i might as well check out other bikes in that price. Nice review!

      +DukeOfDC I saw one of these at my local stealership a few months ago. The front fairing is the perfect compromise between the regular Tuono's and the RSV. Get one, it will sound amazing with an aftermarket pipe.

      JEFFKISTHENAME You're talking mileage here right? I mean thats about a year of riding everyday if not a little more time. Most other bikes you'll need to adjust valves relatively close to that range.

      DukeOfDC I ride over 20k Miles a year lol. My bike "Yamaha FZ-07" like most Yamaha's have a valve adjustment interval of every 26k miles. I'm just dreading the thought of valve adjustments twice a year for the Aprilia. unless I keep strictly as a pleasure ride secondary bike. Then, it would be less than 12.5k, I would imagine. my bike is a 2015 and I've already got over 37k miles lol.

      +Thomas Hakanson I haven't ridden the new 1100RR without Ohlins, but my bike doesn't have Ohlins and it rides just fine. I would say the Ohlins are only needed if you're a serious rider that is going to do some track events, IMO.

      These are mirrors that are used by a lot of other companies. The s1000r has them as well - they work great and are most likely pretty cheap, so that's probably why.

      +Zone Television I feel abused from this comment hahaha. I'm just trying to give the people what they want! But I would also never rev a bike to the limiter if it was cold, or within break-in. This was a demo bike with 1000 miles on it and I had been riding it for 20 minutes prior to this. If you make it further than 10 seconds into the video, I get a lot more gentle ha

    Got the 2016 TuonoRR & the paint scheme on the factory was a real turn off. Sorry to be so narrow minded. Why the Aprilia design person / team chose to splash a p r i l i a across the tank and fairing is bloody stupid. Anybody give me an amen to that? Outside of that I couldn't really afford the additional AUD$3K for the factory. Doesn't sound like much but that additional AUD$3,000 was just outside comfort for me. May get the race ECU put in on the RR as an upgrade. Maybe. Respect Duke. Respect.

      +Gabriel Johannson Not narrow minded at all. I'm the same way when it comes to gold forks lol. Don't know what it is, but I frickin love gold forks lol. The ECU might help a bit, but the RR standalone is still an amazing machine. The RF is really just a bit more refined for the track.
