i cry everytime i hear the nekomata greeting, thanking and basically meowing at the player. and that little clap?? i explode from an overload of serotonin ;-;
I think that the camera may be referencing the serial killer Rodney Alcala, also known as the Dating Game Killer, because he was a photographer and he'd use that as a way to lure his victims close. He was active in the 60s and 70s and that camera kind of looks like it could be from that time, so I'm just guessing. Side note- he got the name because he was on the popular American game show called The Dating Game during his murder spree. A bunch of the photos police found in his storage locker have been released to the media so people can see them and try to identify the people he photographed, that way they can determine if they may or may not have been a victim of his. He was convicted of murdering five people but the actual number is estimated to be higher. Final edit- He passed away just last year due to natural causes in prison.
Ah interesting! I was like wait what? I'm pretty into true crime and it didn't look familiar at all! I kind of forgot about the whole of the evil within 2 plot though lmao
Lol my favorite part about watching Evelyn and play this game besides the gameplay is hearing her enormous amount of knowledge concerning Japanese cuisine, and it really makes me hungry for every single food that she talks about during each episode. I never thought I'd be thinking of Japanese foods and drooling while watching a game about the spirits of the underworld taking over our world. I do a hecken hungry lol
I think one of my favourite parts of this games is the missions with the oni, because every time the visitors show up, KK straight up goes "protect the dog at all costs. If someone lays their spectral little hand on this dog I will wreak havoc on the world and no one can stop me." It's great,
I love that you're exploring the whole game and completing it, including optional quests; I was worried you'd only do the main plot. This game is so beautiful; you're really doing it justice.
57:40 When she said the word "Ransel", it rings a bell in my memory. That word is also used in Indonesian language to describe that particular backpack (a lot of Indonesian language is derived from the Dutch, for example the alarm clock in Indoensia is "weker").
I absolutely LOVE the collectibles part of this game. Honestly it's the best part - the story is great and all, but I always get excited when you say you're gonna be doing a lot of the collecting side quests. :D
Friendly reminder that Erika was the second boss we fought (at least her body) that turned into a cat monster and stole KK, forcing you to use stealth to fight her. The recording from Ed further shows how she was struggling with feelings of inadequacy and helplessness. She genuinely feels like she doesn't contribute enough in helping her friends and family in the fight against the super natural.
id love to see you do a 100% run of this game! even if its just another episode or two of Only soul-collecting and item-collecting highlights the city is just so cool to look at and i love to see you react to all the bits of japanese culture as someone whos lived in japan ^^
Holy cow, the human faced dog mummy makes me think of something in Wisconsin called, Beast of Bray Road it's crazy how alike it is, the creature is said to have a dog's body and an ape or gorilla like head, there have been many spottings
I was just watching the last two parts to catch. This series just makes my day because it is so fun and the game is so good and unique. Keep up the amazing work you put into these episodes :)
Just wanted to say it's starting to storm where I live, and just as you finished cleaning the first tori gate there was a giant clap of thunder that was timed JUST perfectly.
I kinda want to assume that the "in this vicinity" markers are perhaps mostly for the stall curators' item quests. I really love how each Nekomata stall is like a visual progression of how much you've learned about Japan and that each are styled to fit the stall's theme. I also love that the occult cat basically put the red shoes on seemingly the moment they were handed over to them at the video's end. Ugh so heck'n cute! 😊💕
Actually, apparently they're Joseph Oda's glasses from Evil Within? I honestly had to look it up because I was thinking they were P4's protagonist's glasses. 🤣
1:06:46 OMG Joseph!!!!!!! They know we are mad at them for leaving him out of Evil Within 2. It's so sad, I knew who's glasses those were right when I saw them. Sigh... im still so mad at them.
I could imagine the "randoseru" thing, Ränzel or Ranzen thing. It's the same word as for a fat belly, a stuffed stomach, so maybe it was called that because of how it looked.
My Dad got me a Kokeshi doll when I was a kid when he was in Japan on a business trip. I always loved the art and had it on display on a shelf in my room for years but had no idea what it was. I'm glad this was an item so I could learn more about them.
The aliens remind me Yu-Gi-Oh the Orichalcos seal season 1:02:25 you don't know Mentante CONAN the famous detective anime/manga Funfact about the cursed tapes the myth was created to avoid copys of VHS tapes of known movies
It's funny that the After the End III Quest showed up on the minimap as Gab is closing up the episode! But, thank you for the content, and I wish you have a nice trip! I'm excited for the last episode of Ghostwire!
57:24 Indonesian here! TIL that the Indonesian word for 'backpack', which is "ransel", derives from a Dutch word that is spelled and pronounced the same way 😄
If no one's mentioned it yet, the black-rimmed glasses are actually a reference to Joseph Oda from The Evil Within. Hardly a famous detective, but they had to toot their own horns a little, I guess. EDIT: I know "bat outta hell" is a common saying, but I like to think the mention of it with a motorcycle in the "Turbo Student" file was meant to be a reference to the song by the late, great Meat Loaf (although he wouldn't have passed away yet when they were making/localizing this).
I'm Indonesian and the Indonesian word for backpack is "ransel", supposedly it came from Dutch since some parts of Indonesia were under the Dutch colonization for a few centuries, so it's probably an older Dutch word that the older Dutch generation knows? I'm not sure haha That was an interesting fun fact though. I love the look of leather backpacks and just realized that Japanese elementary school kids use it even though I watch anime all the time 😂
hackey sacking is where you keep the ball in the air as long as you can by using your legs. It's pretty hard doing it by yourself but playing with others can make life much easier.
I love how much time your taking to really explore this game world. Have you noticed when you click a shrine you can fast travel to it tells you how many souls are left to collect in that area.
I think the Western game you were thinking of when you found the temari is hacky sack. Er, the "ball" they use is a hacky sack, and so I always knew the game by the same name. My brother used to play it all the time with his friends when he was a teenager.
Yeah, that word for bag was probably popular during the WW2, considering that Japanese army were occupying Indonesia while also having a lot of Dutch or Dutch descents locked up here. Fun fact, we Indonesians call backpack as ransel!
Don't forget the Tanuki/Souls before the endgame! Been really looking forward to you playing more of this, and im glad youre taking your time! :D Would love to see you go for 100%, this game is worth it
Okonomiyaki 🤤 they’re savory pancakes rather than sweet ones which at first sounds a little weird when you’re used to syrup ones, but it’s so amazing. At Uchi in Austin they serve them sometimes and it’s soooo nice. They also do a Japanese brie omelette that speaks to my soul. YUM
The detective I think they are talking about is Charlie Chan. I could be wrong. Also I wouldn’t mind watching more game play of the side quests and hearing the stories from the objects. You can literally do 3 or 4 hours I wouldn’t mind !
oooohhh in indonesia (former dutch colony lol) we still use the word "ransel" for backpack. Didn't know that it's derived from dutch, i learned a new thing today XD
Fun fact if you get a Perfect Block against a projectile it returns to sender! I actually had a game of Volleyball against a Visitor, he wasn't very good at returning it to me just sending it my way and then taking it to the face!
my oldest son wants to move to japan within a few years, so this is an interesting "tour" of japan lol. the only issue is he doesn't want to learn the language, at all. but i am hoping that once he is out of school this summer and not busy with work, that he'll work on the lessons with me since i am learning japanese myself. i also need to do more research into what all is needed for him to move there on a more permanent basis since he is limited in the recommended visa requirements.
So glad Gab does all the side missions - soothes my completionist soul
Same
Yup
Totally agree
SAMEEE
Came here to say the same lol
i can’t be the only one who immensely enjoys all the item searching and reading and the cute nekomata side quests lol
You definitely aren't
i cry everytime i hear the nekomata greeting, thanking and basically meowing at the player. and that little clap?? i explode from an overload of serotonin ;-;
This playthrough has felt like a virtual tour of Tokyo with a side of murder
A+ comment

That 'serial killer' camera you picked up is probably an easter egg from Evil Within 2 - it's Stefano's camera.
Ah interesting! I was like wait what? I'm pretty into true crime and it didn't look familiar at all! I kind of forgot about the whole of the evil within 2 plot though lmao
Oh, and the detective glasses! They're Joseph's!

I was not expecting that twist to the lost dog side quest.
Holy cow, the human faced dog mummy makes me think of something in Wisconsin called, Beast of Bray Road it's crazy how alike it is, the creature is said to have a dog's body and an ape or gorilla like head, there have been many spottings
Yay more Ghostwire. I have gotten so excited about this series just like when you did Elden ring and dark souls
I AM LIVING FOR THIS SERIES!
That's sounds awesomely atmospheric!

2 hours of Ghostwire😍
Nice! and hope you'll enjoy your trip/break!
YESS!! I blasted through the playthrough in one day and have been waiting for this next part!
I love this game but I'm also 100% here for the language discussions for Japanese and Dutch!
For the detective in glasses, it is probably the Japanese/Hawaiian detective Mr Moto

I can't get over how pretty this game is - also the way gab plays it - just perfection. Thank you so much!
I'm loving that you're not rushed playing this game at all.
This game is so good. Underrated IMO. Who doesn't love a game centered around Japanese folklore and urban legends? Very cool
The aliens remind me
Yu-Gi-Oh the Orichalcos seal season
1:02:25 you don't know Mentante CONAN
the famous detective anime/manga
Funfact about the cursed tapes the myth was created to avoid copys of VHS tapes of known movies

I'm so glad this series has returned, hope you got some good rest. I really enjoy this series of videos 😊
The glasses and the camera are references to both evil within 1 and 2
25:22 Gab: Such a pretty game
The game: NOPE *turns into Silent Hill
the dog quest and your face ABSOLUTELY KILLED ME
As with Subnautica: " I am very _FOCUSED_ on getting _DISTRACTED_ "
the return of ghostwire tokyo AND cute headbands! let’s gooooo~
Not just the headband her outfit too is cute and sexy same time.
57:05 In swedish there is a older word "ränsel" that means a small backpack. Maybe it is the same with "ransel"?
Hello there fellow swede :)
I was thinking the same as you did.. sounds like it :)
The headbands you’ve been wearing are absolutely ADORABLE! Where did you get them?
You can find them literally anywhere.
For some reason these videos calms me down especially bc its about Japan :)
The black rimmed glasses are an easter egg to The Evil Within, they belonged to Joseph Oda.
I'm hooked! Thanks for being so thorough with this playthrough!!
So happy for another installment of GabWire: Tokyo
Ghostwire Tokyo and Observation Duty has become the chillest playthroughs.
i´m so happy your doing side quests, for me they are the best part of games also loving this game!
Oni's irl: cannibals who are violent and love killing people.
Oni's in Ghostwire Tokyo: hey wanna pet my dog?
57:24 Indonesian here! TIL that the Indonesian word for 'backpack', which is "ransel", derives from a Dutch word that is spelled and pronounced the same way 😄

I thought its Conan Edogawa aka Shinnichi Kudo from Detective Conan manga
It's so satisfying that you're clearing the map, I appreciate you so much!
I'm Indonesian and the Indonesian word for backpack is "ransel", supposedly it came from Dutch since some parts of Indonesia were under the Dutch colonization for a few centuries, so it's probably an older Dutch word that the older Dutch generation knows? I'm not sure haha
That was an interesting fun fact though. I love the look of leather backpacks and just realized that Japanese elementary school kids use it even though I watch anime all the time 😂
Please do the collectables! I love learning about all the things, it's my favourite bit 😅
They are Joseph Oda's glasses! A reference from The Evil Within!
I definitely love the reading of the collectibles
Absolutely would love to see you collect all the items and read all the lore
IM READY!! I love the side quest and the collecting!
hackey sacking is where you keep the ball in the air as long as you can by using your legs. It's pretty hard doing it by yourself but playing with others can make life much easier.
the day i see “Ghostwire: Tokyo [ENDING]” in a gab title will be a very sad day
Yeah… 🥺
I was so scared you weren't gonna do more! I'm really loving this game! thanks for playing it!!
Watching you clear the map of side quests sparks all the joy for me. 😊😊😊
gabさんは、どんなゲームにも、適応します☆ すごく器用です(^^)
I love how much time your taking to really explore this game world. Have you noticed when you click a shrine you can fast travel to it tells you how many souls are left to collect in that area.
you can hear Seán yell in the background xDD 35:54 hahahaha
I think the Western game you were thinking of when you found the temari is hacky sack. Er, the "ball" they use is a hacky sack, and so I always knew the game by the same name. My brother used to play it all the time with his friends when he was a teenager.
thank you so much Gabs for doing all the side quests! It’s such a fun learning experience! I can’t wait for the last episode!
Just finished watching you play 'The Case of Rachel Foster'. Loved it! Keep up the great work :)
Craving for that Okono-brie-yaki now omg that sounds divine
oh yeah, new ghostwire episode!! been waiting for this!!! also feel better soon and enjoy your trip, Evelyn!
please do everything, I really enjoy that. I would be here for every tenuki, every side quest and every last soul collected.
The Oban next to the cats makes me think it's a stealth Pokemon reference. Meowth has an oban charm on his head.
I guess the randoseru backpack got it's name from Schulranzen (Ranzen) a specific type of backpack for schoolkids (very roomy for schoolbooks)
Yeah, that word for bag was probably popular during the WW2, considering that Japanese army were occupying Indonesia while also having a lot of Dutch or Dutch descents locked up here. Fun fact, we Indonesians call backpack as ransel!
This entire game seems like a love letter to Gab....Kinda awesome!
Yay! Glad you're back with this. Please don't overdo. We want you healthy.
Hope your voice is feeling better!! I enjoy this game so much, I'm super glad that you finish every sIngle thing ;;; IT'S SO INTERESTING
Don't forget the Tanuki/Souls before the endgame! Been really looking forward to you playing more of this, and im glad youre taking your time! :D Would love to see you go for 100%, this game is worth it
you need to see the unique animation the nekomata's have when they get your drop-offs :') some of it is really darn cute, especially the soraban one
I enjoy the information coming with all the collectables, don't forget to check what the collectors sell, they have some nice things on offer.
YUM
"Ranzen" is definitie still used in german for the shown kind of backpack elementary-schoolers wear.
Ah, I was eaggerly expecting your next foray into the world of Ghostwire. Domo arigato gozaimasu for the upload, Gab-sensei.🙏
would love to see you complete the side missions. We learn so much and it nice to see the sights I may never see in person.
the nekomata (nekomatas? idk the plural form) are SO CUTE aaah
Yeah, more Ghostwire: Tokyo!
> I still have half an hour on episode 6 to watch of this series...
This is such a good series
I would like to have an episode just dedicated to collecting stuff. It's fun and relaxing.
The glasses are an easter egg for joseph oda from evil within
Yey1 I am here today early!! As soon as I noticed the notification I clicked hahahahahaha
Fun fact if you get a Perfect Block against a projectile it returns to sender!
I actually had a game of Volleyball against a Visitor, he wasn't very good at returning it to me just sending it my way and then taking it to the face!
The black rim glasses are a easter egg. From The Evil Within's Joseph Oda
I think you have be an my favorite TH-camr to watch
😊😊😊 super epic ✨
Happy National Good Friday and Anime Day on April 15/everyone
my oldest son wants to move to japan within a few years, so this is an interesting "tour" of japan lol. the only issue is he doesn't want to learn the language, at all. but i am hoping that once he is out of school this summer and not busy with work, that he'll work on the lessons with me since i am learning japanese myself. i also need to do more research into what all is needed for him to move there on a more permanent basis since he is limited in the recommended visa requirements.
Called hacky sack it is a small cloth ball you kick from person to person, thanks for the video.
YEAAAAAAHHHHH! I've been waiting for this.
Please take care of your voice and take care.
I'm back to watch the two final episodes and this series is my favourite ✌💜
35:03 Arahabaki!
Ready for whatever you enjoy doing. I am here to enjoy it with you and I am so far and will continue to.
I love love love the explorations ans side missions!
