Well you sold in Q4 which is top selling season for investors and you compare it to the off season (summer period). You should have waited to make the comparisson till Q4 (December) this year. Prices often skyrocket during December-January. But I agree about the initial FOMO pump. But after that pump you should at least wait for a minimum of 2 years to evaluate prices. For some sets it takes 3 years before they reach or surpass theprice of the FOMO pump, if for example the set was hoarded a lot. So look at the same sets again during Q4 next year as well.

Hey man, totally agree! At the end of the video I mention the importance of context and how they were different shopping seasons in the comparison.

Actually, prices don't skyrocket during Q4. So many people send in their stuff to Amazon which makes the price pretty close to what it is during Q3. Q1 of the next year is when prices really start going up!

I'm new to buying Lego and I really have this urge to hold everything for like 20 years. I know no one could predict how that'll work out but it's so tempting.

There seem to be many "investors" who are either OK with very small margins, or panic sell too early because they can't afford to have their money locked up for too long. (certainly for bigger/expensive sets). They keep sets widely available at or below msrp for long after retirement. You basically need to wait until those type of sellers have sold out, from that point prices go up at a decent pace.

Just talking about this with someone at work. There seems to be this assumption that Lego sets keep going up in value. It's prob because the exceptions to the rule get all the headlines. Nice video mate.

Fomo bump? It's a normal gross profit margin bump you see after retirement as resellers need to lock in some profit. Without that bump, you make no money after all costs, fees and taxes. Lol

Some sets can "bump" and then "dip". It can then take a while for them to get back to the heights of the intial "bump" prices. Just highlighting this as a great selling opportunity!
