In the case of the puffer fish tetrodotoxin isn't a venom it's a poison. Venom is injected not eaten. Tetrodotoxin can work as a venom but in puffer fish it's technically a poison.
I've been stung by a box jellyfish here in the Philippines. First thing that happened to me was my skin turn red on the stunged part and then it slowedly spread. I dunno, but after the vinegar was applied I started to feel better. I guess it just comes to how your body reacts to the venom.

Additional trivia: - your palms are immune to the sting. - sand is the best tool to remove the tentacles - you can use it to scar your self (kinda like a tattoo)
That reminded me something. When I was a kid, we had a snorkelling programme conducted by my school in Maldives. We were snorkelling in the reef in a group when suddenly we reached a very shallow area of around 5-6 feet deep filled with sea urchines.. Our instructor then instructed not to let your feet down, however I started to panic a bit and started to sink a bit, as soon as I sank I calmed myself to float again.. My feet barely touched those "venomous 😂" urchines
