- Cory Wong is no stranger to collaboration. The prolific Minneapolis-based and Grammy-nominated guitarist and producer has played and worked with some of the brightest in the music industry, including Vulfpeck, Dave Matthews Band, Jon Batiste and Chris Thile. He's played with Prince, sat in the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and has partnerships with brands like Apple and Fender. However it's his exploding solo career where we can see him really letting loose, like in our latest, blazing-hot Trail Mix Session. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!

He's work with this specific lineup since college. Having musicians that know you and your groove so well is amazing to watch.
This also struck me when seeing Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers. They have been together for so long, they're reading each others minds.
that drummer is a beast
awesome watching him shred an acoustic
I love everything about this. My dog is pissed as I keep waking him up with all my head boppin and foot stompin. So good.
You must have some loud head bops ;) jk your dog was probably just feelin it too
This band is like a collage with each member complimenting one another. Awesome performance!!!! Love it. Haven't heard this kind of creative music in a long while. Thanks for bringing it to us.
Saw these cats live last year and cannot wait to see them again. True masters.
Some serious funk in the room ❤
I dig how Cory squeezes every last bit of tone out of that guitar. Perfect attack on the strings.
0:13 Flyers Direct
3:39 Pebbles
7:41 Team Sports
13:51 Airplane Mode
Thank you for your service
Jonny on the bass 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Masters at their craft. Well done gentleman!
Acoustic Team Sports! Lowkey gem hidden in this video!!
Dear youtube, please don't ever interrupt a drum solo with a commercial. thank you.
To me it interrupted just before the drop of the song, made me go back but it's never the same again..
This is such a wholesome vibe. All the geekin cheesin' smiles, the head nods, the bottom lip out mouth-breathing, face and eyes squinting at funky sync points just makes it all the more awesome. And... the laugh from the bassist after 15:34. 😅 Inspiring musicians just living it up in the most beautiful natural music park!!
Petar out there rocking the Nate Smith 3-piece kit. Cory rocking the acoustic guitar. This is awesome!
Yep, amazing drum skill 🔥
This is better than a cappuccino at 6am. It's gonna be a good day! Thank you! ❤
"Fearless Flyers" edition of Cory's band? Great fun, great scenery 👏
Thank you very much from Ukraine for such wonderful music!!! There is war in our country! it is a source of comfort - good music. thank you
I can appreciate the Paul and Linda McCartney's Ram t-shirt on Cory!
This is so awesome and wholesome, I love it. Best stuff ever, mistakes in and all that's the vibe bros, you made me happy today
I really like your new bassist. He fits well into your super team 👍👏🏻
AMAZING SET ! Yeeaaah 💓💓💓
I love Cory Wong so much. He's laughing with his band, always enjoy the moment
I’ve never seen him play this style before, EVER!!!
A tight band like Cory's beats a group shredding soloists any day!
That roll at 1:49 was so clean my whole room is shiny and chrome now
That's Prince. "Controversy".
I love the fact that the bass and keyboards are carrying the melody!
Holy crap this jam is unreal for where you are and how great the writing is here, how creative guys. I feel funk in you my man.
So cool even the rock behind Cory is wearing shades 😎
Funkin' amazing!
wow. the band is just superb.
insane (also wow petar is a beast on drums)
Petar doing his Nate Smith impression.
Getting to hear more about Cory's approach to music has really helped me elucidate why I'm so drawn to instrumental music and his songs/albums in particular. I tend to prefer instrumental music over music with lyrics because it conveys more emotion when I listen to it. Cory explaining that he feels inspired to write for a feeling of an environment or a vision of something really connected some dots for me. Fun.
try jazz
@@Yourbankaccount yes, I primarily listen to jazz, jazz-funk, and jazz-fusion for that reason!
Love that ending bit lmao!
Cory and band mates always incredible !! Cheers...
The drummer with only a snare, cymbals and kick... if you close your eyes, it seems like he's playing with a complete drum kit.
Him and that bass are so in sync 🔥
If you haven't before, you should check out the Fearless Flyers live in Europe video on youtube, if you like the drumming on this then you'll enjoy that as well
@@loganh0217 thanks for the recommendation. I'll check It out
Gotta say I'm new to his music, but saw a vid with him and Billy Strings, which led me to explore his music more in depth. These sessions are so great and natural - who needs lyrics?
4:23 One of my favourite jams in this performance.
Beautiful compositions and the acoustic guitar can talk👌👌
Sax player would be killing it 👍
Love that RAM shirt
Unbelievable watch
This is Wonderful!
Wongderful
So good
9:50 PETAR YOU DID NOT HAVE TO BLESS MY EAR DRUMS LIKE THAT 😳
Love the double stops
I looooooooove this...........
I've been there to see the Dead play, now I've seen these guys play there, too.
Thanks for the music guys!
Petar killing it the ear ring, looking every bit the part of Ringo!
The drummer’s grooves are literally sinister.
If Cory Wong did an NPR set
fuckin really like the sound on this one.
great setup
Outstanding
The Drums is what caught my eye and Keys
amazing
Sounds good!
Siiiicck
I dont meet your sound, the youtube invite me, so you have a great team, the sound of bass guitar is amazing, congrats bro.
I love it
Good gravy! What kind of bass is that? A souped up Fender? He's my new hero. Both bass hero and hair hero.
気持ちいい〜最高や
3s a charm
That RAM sweatshirt thooooooooooo.
💯💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍
that broken up evergreen cedar tree branch behind you going clear up the mountain goes for 7 miles .straight out of the good book
Get those bends up there!!!
wow there sure is some deep phat phunk in there...that was fun. Thanks guys.
amazing❤
Yeah Yohannes!
Крутяк!!!
9:57
thats amazing
Kind of disappointed that the hornheads weren't there on recorders.
lets do that line one more time 🤣
If that's not a quote from the keyboard solo of Zeppelin's "All of My Love" at 6:13, it ought to be.
13:40 Are you kidding me? This could be put out as a live album with no additional work done.
Ah, and soon you'll (we) have the Neural DSP Cory Wong plugin compabitily on that Quad Cortex
What song was Flyers Direct before it was Flyers Direct?
HAVE MY BABIES PETAR
Garaj Mahal groove
impressive. but remember to find a cloudy day next time.
9:48
I'm surprised Cory didn't fill the sound hole to remove that sustain.
Cory always has great bassists. But I miss Sonny T. He's my fav.
This is a return to his original group line-up since his Foreign Motion days. Petar, Kevin and the bassist Yohannes have been performing together w. him since 2012.
must be painful to play this in acoustic
I play bass and guitar and really want to quit guitar and focus on bass… seems impossible, since bass always feels like hard work and guitar feels like jacking off 😅
Just another rhythm section until you get a SINGER. Get a Singer and you will find all that you are missing as long as the egos can all that singer to their thing.
Playful, naked, highlevel makes further comments not worthy .. Peters Övik Sweden
No offense here but bye bye Sonny!
Yeah, I love Sonny but Yohannes is just killing it on bass.
Would like the drummer to play with more dynamics. He's got a heavy handed approach.
You‘be got a right to your opinion, and to not like his style or his musical choices. But I have to say that I totally disagree - I don’t know how one can look at this groovy, nimble hi-hat and snare ghost-note work and call it “heavy handed”. Man can drive a song’s energy and hit hard when he needs to but he’s clearly also got excellent dynamic control! I also find that his section to section dynamics on the second tune serve that song very well.
@@sethutkc350Well written response and thanks for saying exactly what I was thinking on all counts :-)
@@bcdrummer1962 lol I thought way too hard about it because I wanted to be polite while expressing myself clearly. In retrospect I do feel a bit silly for putting so much energy into a minor musical TH-cam comment disagreement, but hey, we’re just saying what we think. Cheers to you both.
@@sethutkc350 He should adjust his playing to fit the instrumentation. Acoustic guitar? Then he should probably be on rods or brushes. He's playing no differently than if he were on stage with a full band.
I think it‘s the sound of the snare. He is everything but heavy handed. But I get you. The sound of that snare ist so dry it comes across a little stiff. If it had a little ringing to it (snare) it would make for space and looseness.
the guitar is so unclear and buried behind...pitty,it sounds like some am garage band :D
Okay
I don’t understand why Cory is so famous… sorry 🫠
Are you kidding??c mon
