- We install Fastbrakes.com 11'' front big brakes on our RA24 1977 Toyota Celica GT including 4-pot Wilwood forged calipers and braided stainless steel brake lines, plus we figure out which brake master cylinder to run after a fair bit of trial and error.

Definitely thinking about fender mirrors, but I do kinda like the standard mirrors. Funny you mention Longchamps, they are my favorite old school wheel.

it's funny, we get a lot of comments from people who love it, but also get quite a few comments from people who prefer the old one. I guess we'll continue to mix it up and use both.
Im a slotted rotor type of guy too! Seems like theres more surface area/metal material retained compared to drilled anyway. Hope to see the celica on its feet real soon!

Pushrod depth from the booster into the master cylinder has to be correct! Too little clearance (or none) and the front brakes will drag; and too much gap will cause a low pedal & maybe a "clunk" noise.
7mm hex near the tip of the pushrod to rotate clockwise the pushrod tip to shorten it; .003" to ,005" clearance is proper. Toyota SST to check it or use a straight edge and a vernier caliper. That is a very critical dimension and should checked when replacing either the master or the brake booster. More critical than on any other Toyota model of that era.
Those '75 to '77 Celicas were notorious for burning up the front brakes after a relatively minor LF collision where the strut got "moved inboard a bit" and then pulled back as part of the collision repair; where the body shop didn't see that the brake master cyl got "tweaked" and wasn't perpendicular to the firewall anymore.
After the 4th or 5th one I saw where the brake life was 1/2 of expected (50k miles was expected), I made a gauge to slide between the strut tower and the master cylinder so my technicians could check for too much clearance - showing that the booster was "tweaked". They didn't have "my eye" to view that the master was perpendicular to the firewall - the only model Toyota with the hood (bonnet) hinged up front. ('78 and up Celica the hood was hinged at the rear - just the '71 thru '77 models had front hinges) - just had to look down at it to see that "something" was bent.
To "fix it" I would "bend" the booster back to bring it into alignment using my "clearance gauge"; then use the SST and play with the adjuster to get the correct gap restored. And I started using that SST to check the pushrod clearance with every new brake master cylinder we had to install, for many years.
95% of the cars that my shop worked on in the '70's and into the early '90's were Toyota's and none of the other Asian-nameplate vehicles we worked on had such a tight clearance for the booster to master cylinder or even an adjustment for brake master cylinder pushrod length, that I ever saw or was ever aware of.
Why not 2 piece rotors with 8 pot calipers????? Because you need that to stop a 1200kg car!!
Added bounus would be you'd have to run 20" rims!

Name idk kg. But 1200 kg still sounds too heavy since a viper in gran tourismo is 1500kg. I think the very first year was rated at 2270 lbs. Or something like that.

Yeah the all the Celica brakes struts and well everything is bigger than the Corolla.

Why no Brake Calipers with dust boots?
I think that would be the best solution for a street car!
Without them you have to replace the Pistons to fast (Dirt , Rust)
Or is there No option from Wilwood for These Calipers?

Good question, I'm not sure on the dust boot option for these calipers. I will look into it!
They don't has dust boots on these calipers because they melt. Plus it takes up room, meaning bigger caliper etc. You can get some with dust boots. I run these on my mirage track car, you just need to clean the exposed cylinders before you push them back in to put new pads in.
These things are like my Foxbody Mustang brakes...nowhere to go but up lol...

Hey guys I have a BEAMS swapped 1st gen as well. got it running last november. I am curious about that brake kit. the link doesnt go anywhere and fast brakes website doesnt list it.
So you have to replace/pull the wheel bearings every time you change the rotors? Is there a two peace solution for this?

horsepower? Someday we'll be concerned with horsepower, like when we strap this car to the dyno ;) But we're definitely not the 1,000-hp kind of guys around here. 200-whp will be perfect in this car, I think.
I thought Moose wasn't allowed to use something as delicate as a torque wrench when tightening those front rotors..
It was a risky play, but we've gotta let the big fella try delicate jobs every once in a while ;)
Is a cotter pin really OK to use to hold the pads in? Is this normally done on regular street cars with factory brembos?

Any reason going with the fastbrakes kit over t3? Im looking at both right now, need to clear 14s though. Guessing youre running 15s?
I am going 15x9'' and have tested caliper clearance with a template from the wheel manufacturer so I know I'm clear. I went with Fastbrakes because the owner Brian is a cool dude and I've used his kits on Hondas before with very good results, so just a matter of sticking with what we know. I'm sure the T3 kit is good too, I don't think you can go wrong either way.
Just curious what the hubs come off? ae86 or ra2x?
moose forgot to put bearing grease on the bearings :S
We greased the bejesus out of the bearings beforehand. Big ball of grease in the palm of my hand, then run the bearing through it until it's well lubed.

Wish we could Nick, but we're told by Whiteline that those arms are no longer in production. They literally sent us their last set :(

We really like how beefy the Hardrace upper arms are that we're using and they do make the lower arms with either spherical bearings or hardened rubber bushings.
Many thanks. I was very impressed with the excessive bracket kit you used on your diff, I'm trying to convince them to do a spring perch set for Celica spring size. I'd rather be able to sell the RA23 diff than cut the old mounts off and be left with scrap. Keep the great vids coming guys, awesome work.

LOL I'm too old for manual brakes. I've been spoiled by power brakes and every time I drive a car with manual brakes it takes a while to remember how hard you have to stomp on the slow pedal. But once you get used to it, I will admit that manual brakes have great feel.
My brain is not young enough and fast enough to think in inches and all that confusing 2-3 quarters stuff. hurry up and switch to metric "mm" already. :P
