I love his "Just make the best product instead of the best marketing" , it's like how he speaks - he could speak fast and try to sell you the idea, but you want to listen because it's quality of his words rather than loudness 🔥🔥
I vividly remember serving Sam Ovens at a restaurant in Queenstown New Zealand. Now I'm starting a community on his platform. Small world. He's got one of the kiwi'est accents out there. Great guy!
Absolutely love how this video dives into the origins of Skool. For entrepreneurs looking to replicate this success, remember that building a community is key. Engage with your first 100 users personally and solve their problems - this creates advocates who'll amplify your growth organically.
Been in your world since you launched CA and gotta say that I loved when you shifted from 'corporate'ish' to the dude wearing his baseball hat backwards. I remember when you posted that video and some peeps were ticked off that you decided to unleash your authentic side. Love your down-to-earth, transparent, authentic style 👍😀👍 Enjoyed hearing about your journey building skool, as well, was delighted when you asked me to be a beta tester, and soOoo happy to be part of skool's success Loved your Zen quote, and Googled it to get exact wording ... found this: "Clay is used to make vases, but it is the emptiness they contain that makes them useful." - Laozi
I actually think that Sam’s version was better:”[ a vase doesn’t get thrown away because it allows the user to put something of theirs inside it]” A fresh and modern take on a classic concept
Such a good interview. So many fascinating little intricate moments into Sam and the development of Skool. I like the k in Skool too it’s like Parkour came from the French word Parcour but it’s a new take on it.
Not sure if you will ever see this Sam but I've heard nothing but nice things about you. I'm glad you're one of the good stewards of money and entrepreneurship. You seem like a great guy that doesn't lead with his ego. Much respect to you sir.
I would love to see 2 changes with skool. One is that you don't pay until you get paying memmbers paying a total of 100+ usd or if you would have a free community, that it's fully free (it beenfits yo uas well since you are aquiring more users over time) Second change would be the possibility to charge different pricing to different people (since maybe some people came from specific source, or they are your friends, etc...) thanks ^^ love the pod btw
Loved Sam's transparency. I found value and hope to begin my own community after I heard Sam say the process of beginning with a shitty course no one watches anyways but a community can help you find the thing that's truly worth creating.
1/5 of the way through the interview, currently at 8:55, and it’s still a fact that Sam Ovens is the realest, most human-genius on TH-cam. Genuinely a renaissance man. Swear I’m not a fanboy. Just observing, paying attention, and recognizing REAL when I see it. Thank you Sam. 🔥🥂💯
@@zqa12swx Cash Flow Consulting! That's what it was. Yes, I remember lumpy mail. I used to send dice to business owners, since I live in Vegas. "Don't roll the dice on your SEO..."
Really enjoyed this conversation. Hearing the journey of transformation from a controlling mindset to letting go and being open to collaboration was powerful. It was also nice to hear someone explain the pure clunkiness that can exist in someone going from nothing to course creator. Off to search for a community! :-)
I was debating btw Skool and Circle for the longest time. I still think Circle's features are better (mainly the live-chat feature), but Skool does seem to have more steam. I'm happy with my decision, but pls add the requested features :)
kaalraam, make another video about brain fog, it has ruined my potential and therefore my early 20s, I can't find the source of it even with sleep and diet dialled
To reach 1B users it will need some serious improvement to engage and retain community members, Discord is far beyond Skool in terms of building engaged communities.
in a sense discord is more engaged, but the conversations move so damn fast in big groups, i stopped trying altogether, i think a more accurate comparison is fb groups
sooo much self beating because i know him since the days of "consulting accelerator" and even though i couldn't buy the course a friend bought it and let me watch the whole thing. self beating because i couldn't implement what i learned at the time in 2019. 5 years passed and i still can't make use of it. even though it occupies my mind the whole time bcz i've always wanted to free myself from job-trap. well at least now i know what i'm really interested in without the bias of "my interest needs to be profitable" XD. anyhow...turns out i can't live without the hope of making it achievable so...if anyone is interested in getting in touch my passion seems to circle around psychology and personality sciences
To me it would make sense if Skool charged less for people to host free groups as opposed to paid groups. $99/month even for hosting free groups seems a bit steep. Other than that love the platform! :)
Biggest lesson - to make loads of money, you have to pretend to be someone you're not. Then you can relax and make money being who you are without the pressure of needing to make money.
I believe it did, but he hated it & had to reinvest what he had left over into this new venture…which drained every last penny he had. That’s what I’m hearing from his interview anyways, I might be wrong though 🤔
Why is the 'K' almost the same colour as the 'L'? To me (20-year brand creative director/designer) it looks like a fuck-up due to sloppy work. But if it wasn't I'd be fascinated to know why?

Thanks for the incredible chat mate. So excited for all of us on Skool for Internet Renaissance 2.0!
What advice would you give sportsmen who want to go pro but are struggling to fund it?
Selling points: Identify the biggest pain point or just make them a little better at what they do?
This made piece of content me love skool even more and Andrew Kirby’s content lol

Beautiful interview. Love Skool. Keep going!
Love these long-form videos. I've created a free Skool community about how to run paid ads for all the community businesses that are starting up.
Haven’t watched yet but I know this shit is about to be good.
