Would you recommend the 14mm or 16mm. I had the 16mm but I think someone grabbed my paddle by mistake or stole it. Before I buy another I want to know if the 14mm would be a better option
Yes please! I see that your spreadsheet has the 14mm at a lower swing weight, so would it have less put-away power then? I’m trying to figure out which one to buy
That would be awesome Chris. Any info as to whether the 14 mm hits a little bit harder w a bit more pop, as a 14 mm usually would, would be helpful to know, as this would have me ordering one ASAP. Thanks!

This is a paddle I’ll unabashedly recommend. It’s so cheap and so good that it’s impossible not to be my first recommendation for almost anyone new to the sport.
I'd say INEXPENSIVE, not cheap, because the build quality and feature set is HIGH but the price is LOW, making this AND the Prism V7 the BEST VALUE on the market right now....
I’ve had the Prism Flash for a few weeks and coming from my Costco 2-pack SLK Lattitude 2.0 paddle it’s a GAME CHANGER. Big upgrade in terms of power off the face and the control/spin has been really nice and easy to get use to. ZERO regrets
How long were you using/how much use did you get out of the Costco paddles before you moved to the Vatic? I’m following your path, and I’m trying to ge to a sense of when I might notice the difference… Thanks!
I do alot of indoor rock climbing …so power and weight don’t really matter to me …..i learned that control paddles save me from hitting it out of bounds..i went with the v7 best paddle for me
Thanks for all your reviews and all that you do for the game of Pickleball. As I have just started playing again after about a 3 year layoff, lots of differnet reasons, I quickly realized that paddle technology had changed tremendously. I played primarily with Invicta from Selkirk back in 2019 and 2020 at a high 4.5 level. Coming back now I started looking around at all the Carbon Fiber paddles on the market. I have decided on Vatic Prism to start my journey back, mainly due to your recommendation and the why behind it. Thanks again.
Got one of these after using a ronbus r1 and while I liked the ronbus a lot, I like this one even more. Just feels a bit better, a bit more power and even better control. Well worth the money
Great review! I have one on order based on your discord communities' feedback and recommendation. I plan on adding a little lead tape to the Flash to give it that extra little plow through, but not a ton to make it to heavy. It's nice starting with a lower swing weight and moving up till you hit the perfect balance. At this price point, I can buy 2 for the price of 1 $200 variety, which should mean the carbon fiber will last twice as long if I rotate them in evenly. Keep up the great reviews!
I picked up the Frism Flash based on recommendations from you and The Lanky Farmer. I'm lovin' it. I'm coming from the Legacy Pro which I think is too much for my 3.5 skill level. :)
I bought one and have being playing with it for about a month. I have it dialed in at 9 oz all the weight in the handle which changes the balance point and helps with maneuverability. Coming from the Joola Hyperion, your review was spot on great job. Although I do thing it has more power than the Hyperion, maybe the extra weight gives it a little more plow through. I'm ordering more , it's a really great paddle. Very happy with it. Thanks
I bought both the Prism models to compare & contrast... Found that I prefer the Prism V7 shape & larger sweet spot, and more "tipped" balls with the Prism Flash... Both paddles feel REALLY solid though, and no regrets on either, especially at the discounted price... Solid feel, massive spin (use the discount dollars to buy a paddle cleaner, because you WILL have a ton of ball "fuzz" buildup - my Gruvn's dont generate a quarter of the "fuzz" buildup and the spin is good with them, but is EXCEPTIONAL with the Prisms) and both Vatic Prisms are now my preferred first line paddles... One cannot beat the performance & build quality for the price.... Your mileage may vary....
I have the 14mm and it's a great paddle- but I'm considering the 16mm for a future purchase. Good quality materials in the 14mm Prism and feels balanced so I hope the thicker paddle shares those qualities. Thanks for this review!
So I’ve been using a Joola Hyperion CFS for the past 9 months exclusively, and I used a Vatic Pro Prism Flash for 3 hours last night. Immediately noticed that it felt more poppy than the Hyperion, which is funny considering how much Chris emphasized it’s lack of pop. Compared to a Hyperion it’s definitely got more pop. Overall was very impressed with the Vatic though. More spin than the Hyperion, similar sweet spot, and similar off center forgiveness. Just going to have to get used to the quicker feel in the hands and the extra pop, but I think it’s a great paddle, regardless of the price.
Great content! What would you recommend between the flash and V7? I am a former tennis player and have been using the OG Franklin Ben Johns paddle for 2 years now. It’s fine but the face has gone smooth and sweet spot feels small at times, so I am looking to upgrade. I have no problem producing my own power and place more value on spin and control. Thanks!
Hey, just ordered the flash. I’m sure it’s going to do well thanks to your in depth review. Thanks for the review I’ll update you on how it plays once I’ve used it a good bit.
Hey Chris. Congrats on your recent (Prism)tourney results. I really appreciate your dedication and paddle reviews. I'm just 3 months into my PB addiction and loving my weighted and over gripped Vatic Pro V7. My twist weight seems solid as possible with the weights, as deflection is minimized. I try my best to be in ready position after every shot to make up for any slower paddle speed at this weight. The weight for me is quite manageable, I'm athletic, 62, 5' 11" and 185lbs. I ordered the new Pro line Energy from pickleballapes ($135)for the longer grip after watching JK's review a couple days ago, as I want to try the 2 handed BH and hope it offers a bit more power than my V7. Will you be testing this (PB apes PL Energy)paddle anytime soon? Happy pickling.
Hey Chris. 14mm DBD & 14mm Prism Flash what are pop between the two paddles? Which paddle the ball comes the face faster? SW is 110 said your spreadsheet for both. Thank you
You asked for feedback on how important price points are. I am willing to pay more (within reason) for quality. However, customer service and warranty have become more important to me in the past 6-months as I see how quickly and efficiently some companies react to issues with paddles soon after they were purchased (edge guards, core crushing, delamination, etc). The fact that some companies put the onus on the consumer to pay for returning a paddle still under warranty and take their time getting it back to you is enough to turn me away from buying anything from them ever again.
Whats the longevity of this racquet. I saw one yesterday and the sweet spot was noticabley rough. It appears its picked up fibbers from the ball. Is this material something that should be brushed off or is this the carbon surface deterring or wearing out?
Where would you recommend lead tape placement on this paddle for more power? Ive had such a back and forth experience with it. As someone that struggles to generate as much power as I want, the flash just feels so slow. At the net for doubkes, it feels awesome and I love the control. I'd like to as more power, especially to serves and returns. Just ordered tape but unsure where to place it.
What paddle do you feel has the best sweet spot? I am looking for an all court with a very forgiving sweet spot. I was going off twist weights, but saw you mentioned not making that a big factor. :)
Warranty on website now says 180 days. 6mos is better than 3, but should be a year for every paddle. But getting it for $90 helps swallow the other 6 mos.
I'm currently strongly debating between this Prism V7 and the Legacy Pro, what would be your opinions and advice on this? I've been playing with a Holbrook Sodo for over a year.
You sold me on the flash. But what’s the difference between the $99 one vs the carbon $139 one. Is it worth it to get the carbon $139 one for a first paddle?
I'm a tennis player switching over to pickleball. I need a control paddle because of my power. should I get the V7 or the Flash? high swing weight doesn't sound like a downside because I'm used to a racket!
Hey man, just a question I’m looking to decide between a Vatic pro and the Hyperion. The Hyperion is currently on sale for 155$ on Amazon prime. What do I do?
Hey Chris, after watching maybe like 40 videos of reviews for paddles, I ended up buying a relatively new paddle called neonic force. I highly recommend trying it and dropping a review if you can or mentioning it in some video. Its very similar to a pulsar and its only 100.
What’s the difference between the purple vatic and the orange one ? Im looking on internet and i can only see a price difference? I guess the materials are better ?
Former college tennis player. Been using the V7 and Ronbus R3 pulsar for about 3 weeks now. Lots of training with both of them. I give the nod to the V7 by a hair (but I will play with both of them, depending on my needs). I like the just a tad longer shape of the V7, and the sweet spot…I have mine weighted at the throat and it’s a perfect all around paddle. Since I hit top spin, flat, backspin, it works for everything. I would say the only thing that makes it better than the R3 Pulsar is the sweet spot. And if I’m off from the sweet spot at all, I can usually still stay in the point, where the R3 I really need to make center mass contact each time. Coming from tennis, I learned a long time ago that the racket absolutely doesn’t make the player. As anything with a crazy price tag is geared toward a very small change in playing style and one that unless you have a very high rating, most people honestly can’t tell a difference…so simply buy a middle of the road paddle and just get good with it….
I opted for the R3P over the Vatic V7 primarily for durability i.e. core crush/delamination issues. I've played around 70 hours and the Ronbus is good as new. How many hours have you put in on the V7? Any issues?
@@DaveLL500 I’ve got about 20 full hours between ball machine work and games and the V7 is holding up great. I push this thing to the limits with power and spin and no issues at all. Still looks brand new.
Got my next paddle nailed down to the Vatic or the Ballr Pro. The vatic has some incredible reviews, but the Ballr comes with a longer and thicker handle as well as the dumbest name imaginable. I’d love to see a comparison if you get a chance to review it
Thanks for the review video Chris - excellent as always. I picked up the Prism Flash last month using your promo code and it is my regular paddle along with a Ronbus R2.16. I still play with 6 other paddles on a regular basis, to keep my brain challenged (at 70, brain flexibility/exercise is more important than winning). Have you considered an episode about EVA core paddles? I bought a Hudef Newera and use it when playing in the morning because it is a lower frequency at impact (hopefully perceived as quieter) - as a control player the extra power is not a plus for me because I hit the ball out a lot and I don't want folks to think that I'm hitting hard at them. The sound factor is becoming more important to me ... have you ever tried an open cell foam ball (think Nerf ball)?
I have that Eva paddle and I’m just getting it dialed in, as you probably know having the strange sound and cardboard box feel is not easy to get used too. But now I can control the power and the spin is incredible, everyone says the spin is so curved it does s turns in the air on serves, stay with it as it’s taken me a few months to make it work, but I usually use 5 different paddles a week and maybe 2-3 per day!
Thanks for the video! I have the original Flash 16mm and then bought the Prism 16mm. I am curious whether you noticed any elbow strain with the Prism? I have been fighting tennis elbow since before I had either, but it seemed to get worse with the Prism then got better again when I switched back to the original Flash. I'm not sure if it was just coincidence or if the paddle had anything to do with it. Your thoughts?
Just got mine last week and was expecting it to have a bit more power than my CRBN 1 due it's unibody foam-filled features but, it just doesn't. Maybe I need to add some lead tape. It's got good touch, control and spin but I had most of that with the CRBN 1 so was hoping for a bit more power. Not thermoformed power but just more than Gen 1 raw carbon but for me, it just doesn't.
Chris, just remember that twist weight is only a measurement of MOI about a paddle's vertical axis. As such, it's only indicative of the effective sweetspot's width with absolutely zero correlation to the sweetspot's length. You can't really say a paddle with a higher twist weight has a larger effective sweetspot; you can only say that the effective sweetspot will be wider.
PBS, can you review the 11 6 24 YSF paddle? I’m finding this new entry is more valid than the Vatic Prism line, thanks great review as usual, keep up the good work!
Great video Chris! Wld you say a (lead-taped) Prism Flash makes a nice complement to the DBD16? ......maybe on days when i need more control. I just don't wanna ditch the prism in favor of my current dbd16 after the purchase. But seeing that you had success with the prism at the tourney, I thought maybe its worth considering.
such a great budget paddle good review. can you do a review on the Ballr Pro paddle. super steal for the price too $89 also small company like vatic and Ronbus. it uses Toray t700 carbonfiber as well, you might like it just as much as the prism or even more🫢🤷♂️
Thank you so much for this comment and reply. I am a beginner. I tried two different paddles, I had to hold back on my swing for both of them because I could not control the pop. Now I know to save the 40.00 and get the prism so that I can concentrate on my control over power.
I’m not Chris, but figured I’d chime in anyway;-). I find the Hyperion more powerful than the Prism Flash (don’t have the V7), but that is largely due to the extra plow through of the Hyperion. Perhaps V7 Prism feels a bit closer in power.
@@therealmoonrok3387 I decided to order an American made paddle and went with an Engage because it has a lifetime warranty. I’m trying to cut back on supporting China.
Love the twist weight info. But due to the anomalies you mention in the video, I think twist weight has a lot more to do with “paddle stability” than “sweet spot”. Just one guys opinion.
You're correct. I said sweet spot a few times where I should have been saying stability. Stability is often correlated with a good sweet spot though, which is the point I was trying to get across.
I tried the Prism Flash but returned it. (Thanks, Amazon!!!) My trusty XSPAK black has better power/drives/overheads, pop, sweetspot, overall control, dink-ability and reset-ability than the Prism Flash. Spin and handspeed at the net were about the same. And I like the extra 1/4" to 1/2" reach of my XSPAK. Played around with lead tape, too. Couldn't get it to outperform the Xspak. Nuf said. Vatic Prism buyers, beware. XSPAK is also better than the Ronbus R3. Nuf said.
this was very helpful to read, as I'm also currently using Xspak black (elongated) for doubles. I'm curious then how the thermoformed Vatic Pro V7 would compare to the Xspak. If it has a bit more putaway power without sacrificing the other characteristics of the Xspak, that would be sweet for me.
I can't find mine in my bag man i hope no one got over on me lol I like the flash, my hands feel quicker at the net. But I'm going to get the 14mm if it's available
I played with Rogue 2’s for years, they are very good paddles, especially the new carbon fiber ones and helped me a lot with tennis elbow. I would say they compared very favorably with everything that was out 1+ year ago, but just can not compete with the new thermoformed paddles with the raw t700 carbon fiber. The better newer generation paddles just have better sweet spots, more spin, and more power.
I agree with everything Jeff just said. I switched from a Carbon Rogue 2 Max to the Vatic V7 and it was a huge upgrade for me. Now I am testing out the Flash (thermoformed) to see if I prefer the added hand speed over the added reach of the V7. The Rogue 2 has a somethat thin core, but has notably less power than any of the current thermoformed paddles. I found it much more playable adding a fair amount of lead tape around the lower 2/3 of the paddle. At this point in time I don't see a lot of reason to get a Rogue given the price point and performance. A Vatic Prism (Flash or V7) would be a better performing paddle for even less $.
sounds great - too bad you can't return it if you don't like it! "All items must be new/unused and contain all original packaging (including plastic wrap)" WTH! Not even a demo to rent?? Not willing to lose $100 if I don't like it!
I hit it briefly. Initial thoughts: - way over priced $230 - exposed polymer handle (absurd for $230) - plays closely to a Warrior Edge from my memory. - spin might be a noticeable upgrade but I didn’t get to test it. My initial impression from 10 minutes was it’s over priced.

What paddle would you say is the best for pop at the kitchen? I'm curious to find something that can help with those speed up returns.
Pro Kennex black ace
Does anybody know what the website is? Is it Pickleball studio?
great review and comments 3:22. thanks
And it comes with a cover!
Where does the discount code apply? I can’t see a spot for it on the Vatic site? Thanks
Vatic VS Neonic would be a good video!
Do you use the 14 or 16 mm double black diamond?
He uses the 16mm
Chris, just remember that twist weight is only a measurement of MOI about a paddle's vertical axis. As such, it's only indicative of the effective sweetspot's width with absolutely zero correlation to the sweetspot's length. You can't really say a paddle with a higher twist weight has a larger effective sweetspot; you can only say that the effective sweetspot will be wider.
The v7 prism was a club. Felt way slower than my Hyperion. Positive is that great spin.
while spin and pop and even power can very a paddle speed i.e. swing speed should be the same with any paddle how can the Vatic be slower ?
2nd in 3.5 and 1st in mixed 3.5 ... well done. Time to move up to 4.0 ... wait ... never mind. 3.5 forever :)
Is the Selkirk Halo or BNB Filth worth the extra money compared to the Vatic Pro?
Halo, no. Filth, it depends what you like and want in a paddle.
Thanks much, Chris.
PBS, can you review the 11 6 24 YSF paddle? I’m finding this new entry is more valid than the Vatic Prism line, thanks great review as usual, keep up the good work!
Engage just released a T700 carbon paddle for 269.00 you have got to be joking! 🤣🤣🤣 I bought the flash a no brainer
Interesting … no mention of add lead tape … especially for the flash … from the video though it looks like it has a robust edge guard.
Are you going to review the new onix paddles?
I’m getting mine tomorrow!
Thank you. Great review. Purchased recently using the code.
such a great budget paddle good review. can you do a review on the Ballr Pro paddle. super steal for the price too $89 also small company like vatic and Ronbus. it uses Toray t700 carbonfiber as well, you might like it just as much as the prism or even more🫢🤷♂️
Would you say long term for an intermediate/expert player is it worth the extra $40 to get their thermoformed paddles?
Depends entirely on their play style. If you want power, then yes. If you don't need power, Prism would be fine.
Thank you so much for this comment and reply. I am a beginner. I tried two different paddles, I had to hold back on my swing for both of them because I could not control the pop. Now I know to save the 40.00 and get the prism so that I can concentrate on my control over power.
How's the power compared to the Hyperion?
I’m not Chris, but figured I’d chime in anyway;-). I find the Hyperion more powerful than the Prism Flash (don’t have the V7), but that is largely due to the extra plow through of the Hyperion. Perhaps V7 Prism feels a bit closer in power.
Prism V7 hits plenty hard....
How old is this model from vatic?
Within the last 2 months or so
I just bought this paddle. Can't wait to use it Friday night
how did you like it?
@@BJJandBS I love it. It's still my main paddle
@@therealmoonrok3387 I decided to order an American made paddle and went with an Engage because it has a lifetime warranty. I’m trying to cut back on supporting China.
Just used your discount code for the 16mm Prism Flash
opinion on bread and butter filth?
Love the twist weight info. But due to the anomalies you mention in the video, I think twist weight has a lot more to do with “paddle stability” than “sweet spot”. Just one guys opinion.
You're correct. I said sweet spot a few times where I should have been saying stability.
Stability is often correlated with a good sweet spot though, which is the point I was trying to get across.
What rating do you say you are?
I currently play 4.5.
Where is it made?
China.
I had mine for about 3 months now, grit has worn down significantly. Great paddle, but it just doesn't last.
I can't find mine in my bag man i hope no one got over on me lol I like the flash, my hands feel quicker at the net. But I'm going to get the 14mm if it's available
Hey gonna comment every day, do you plan on making a vatic alchemy review?
haha yes, I do. It's scheduled for mid August.
Seems like it might be the same paddle (clone) as the Hudef Viva Pro.
can you do review on the players rogue 2 max? you have never done players and they are American made!
CYO Vs Phil match is gonna be insane
sounds great - too bad you can't return it if you don't like it! "All items must be new/unused and contain all original packaging (including plastic wrap)" WTH! Not even a demo to rent?? Not willing to lose $100 if I don't like it!
Banger vid 🔥🔥
When will you be reviewing the new onyx z7?
Don’t have any plans to
Need a Diadem Edge 18k Review!!
I hit it briefly. Initial thoughts:
- way over priced $230
- exposed polymer handle (absurd for $230)
- plays closely to a Warrior Edge from my memory.
- spin might be a noticeable upgrade but I didn’t get to test it.
My initial impression from 10 minutes was it’s over priced.
14mm vs. 16mm thoughts?!
I don’t think there is a 14mm prism
@@douglasmurdoch7247There is a 14mm available on the VP site. Chris commented that he received the 14mm the day this video came out.
@douglasmurdoch7247 Yes, there is a 14mm Prism Flash now. But there is currently no 14mm in the V7 shape in either Prism or thermoformed versions.
@@joem6010 ah good to know, I didn't realize that
