No factory tie downs? This Nissan comes factory with their utili-track system , and it is arguably the best factory tie down system on the market.

I can spot the difference in a second when looking at the front. That had a slight redesign. Also inside the center stack looks allot different. That was changed around 2012. At some point they changed from fuel injection to sequential fuel injected VQ40. Added more air bags, dual climate controls, NAV etc.. I owned a 2005 pathfinder and my 2019 Pro 4X is allot different. Both those are basically the same from the front seats forward. The pathfinder did have independent suspension and road nicer but not very practical for heavy loads for a truck. Contrary to what many may thing Nissan has updated this many times over the years.

Actually 261 HP and 281 lbs of torque. Forget that this engine is 15 years old. It is still relevant. Seats are more comfortable then the Taco (too low) or the Colorado (too narrow) and the interior is more ergonomic then the taco, Ranger and Colorado. Bullet proof is what the powerplant is all about. 5 speed auto does not have any of the active learning, early shifting and gear searching BS. I'd say the only transmission better then this is the Rangers's 10 speed and the Ranger will cost you between 5K-10K more. I got a Pro 4X for 35K out the door which includes 4X4 with dana locker, decent control, 31" offroad tires and 9 speaker Rockford fosgate with sub, bilsteins, sunroof, leather, heated seats, 8 way power seats, dual climate control, NAV, SAT, spray bed liner, skid plates etc.... This is the one to get. BTW, your head would probable hit the ceiling in the taco in the front seat as well. As for the steering, still rack and pinion hydraulic. All old school dependability here. Turning radius is the Achilles heel. Its horrible.
    I
Late next year will be a new model that will still use the F-alpha box frame chassis. Overseas Navara is too small and it cost too much to convert that for long box, crew/king cab configurations. But it will have updated sheet metal and interior/center stack etc.. It will be based using their twin turbo 3.0 V6 making 300 HP and using the titan's 7 speed auto. Will come out late next year as a 2021. I have allot of pause as to whether it will be as rugged/durable as the current generation. But it will surely sell more being it will obviously look more modern and give people android auto etc. But the current truck enjoys a rather large cult following. Even Nissan admits to this. There is a reason its been in production this long. They nailed it back in 04 and was one of the last "all Nissan" designs before Renault took over.

My 2008 SE 4x4 Crew long bed that I bought with 60,000 on it in 2013 has 275,000 Work and Play miles on it now with the only non regular maintinence repair being a radiator replacement at 100,000 to make sure I didnt get the strawberry milkshake. I'm hoping to get 350,000 before I deam her non daily driver reliable. Then I'll buy another one! Most reliable and best truck/vehicle I've ever owned! My other trucks were my 2001 4x4 Tundra Limited which went 225,000 before a cam failure, also a great truck. And finally my first truck a 1988 4x4 Ford Ranger 2.9l v6 super cab which made it 250,000 when I parked it as it had been in an accident and I decided not to fix it which I regret. The only cars I've had that compete with the Frontier were a 1994 Toyota Carrolla and a 1999 chevy prism. They both lasted over 200,000 and were Good cars but certainly not as capable as the Fronty.

@@RaitisRides The Ford Ranger starts at about $25,000, and it comes with Ford's Sync and their Co-Pilot safety suite standard. That's more technology than you can get in any configuration of the Frontier. The Frontier might have the lower starting price, but it's not necessarily a better value. That's said, it is hard to argue the Ranger would be more reliable.

Thanks again Joe. Again, you've gone where other vloggers care not to. LOL! I've test-driven the current and previous generation Tacoma V6 a few times. I must say this 'old' Frontier with the VQ40DE V6 feels like a sports car compared to the sloppy handling, dizzying ride quality and weak power of both Tacoma generations. These test-drives were enlightening, as the Tacoma absolutely dominates the roads and mall parking lots where I live. You cannot turn your head and not see a Tacoma.
I've often complained of why Nissan USA has been so slow to bring the current Nissan Navara to the US to compete with the current Tacoma. The Navara has a solid platform that Mercedes-Benz even uses to underpin its' truck in Europe, Australia and elsewhere.
But then I hear friends complain about their Tacoma transmission problems and unrepairable cracked composite beds. And I see so many 'sunburnt' Tacomas with peeling exterior paint everywhere on the road. Then I view online images of recalled 'hunchback' Tacomas with rusted buckled frames being replaced at Toyota dealerships. Note to Toyota: Using cheap quality steel from the get-go in at least 2 generations of Tacomas has its price.
Lastly, a few years ago, I was surprised to see the Frontier had displaced the Tacoma for top reliability ranking, according to Consumer Reports annual predicted reliability data. Even the Colorado ranked higher than the Tacoma! The Frontier has repeated this top ranking several times since then...
After all this, I finally thought to myself, "Maybe there was virtue in keeping the current Frontier platform around for so long?" It's become a tried-and-true warrior with proven long-term durability (if maintained properly)....Not only an attractive choice, but still a solid value to many new truck buyers in the market!

The New Frontier will come out late next year as a 2021 model. It will still be based on the F Alpha platform since Navara can't have different size wheel bases with that platform like they do in North America so it will still have the Titan chopped box frame which I think is good but will have new sheet metal and use the infinity 3.0 twin turbo V6 for about 300 horsepower and the seven-speed Titan transmission obviously the interior will be updated as well as exterior body panels.

People don't understand this truck. Yes, it's old. Yes, it looks dated inside as well. The thing is, it's the last real truck in the United States. It doesn't have cylinder deactivation or a fancy multi fold tailgate or a TV sized touchscreen or turbo or a ten speed transmission or even direct injection. It has RELIABLE port injection, a RELIABLE five speed transmission and RELIABLE analog gauges. The model to go for is the Pro4x. For about 30k, you get the reliable powertrain, a locking Dana rear end and awesome off road capability. BTW, this time machine outsells the new Ranger. Oh and how come people don't complain when Toyota hasn't updated their vehicles? Hell, their Tacoma still has drum brakes. The Four Runner is outdated. The Tundra is also outdated.

The taco's 3.5/ 6 speed is a awful tune. Gutless gear searching, early shifting, torque starved piece of junk. The four runner is another favorite of mine and compares nicely to the frontier. Still made in Japan and uses a very reliable 4.0 liter with 5 speed auto. Your correct about the Pro 4 X but I went for the one with leather/power seats and paid just south of 35K. BTW, the other old school truck in the full size is the tundra. People put 300K miles on those things. Indestructible. That's pushing 10 years since its last update.

It has a nice ride and I find it easy to drive. I LIKE that it doesn't have all the complicated bells and whistles, simple is better for me. It is the most affordable truck in my area of the USA. ( got the tie ulti-track system with the tie down and a hitch). I am very pleased and happy!

I just bought a "2019 Frontier SL" with foldable bed cover, and love it!
Although I have to take it back to the dealer for a NEW TIRE! JUST MY LUCK!!! LOL
I would AND CAN go anywhere but will ask the dealer first!
Luckily I paid an extra $600 for tire protection because just as soon as I got back from CALI, I blew a tire! (and no, not literally, I never blow tires on the first date!)

I think the frontier is the best value midsize truck on the market. Proven reliability, still looks good after 15 years, tows what most people need to tow, great for off-road fun, and costs 5-10k less than the Colorado, Tacoma, and Ranger. Only downside is fuel economy, which you more than make up for with sticker price and lack of repairs. I wouldn’t touch a turbocharged 4 cylinder in a Ford, the reliability issues of a Chevy, and the cost of a Toyota.

@@EJ-en2ie Toyota went for that look with the high floor with low roof line. They are very nice looking trucks because of this. But it means you sit on the floor with legs straight out. What's worse is the Nissan motor is much better with the 4.0 / 5 speed then the 3.5 with active learning 6 speed that the taco has which is a hard shifting, gear searching early shifting mess. People buy the toy because of perceived reliability and resale. The frontier is every bit as reliable but the taco does have good resale. And that's all it has IMO.

Just bought this exact truck (except in a 4x4).. new in 2020 and I love it. Just good, solid truck without all the bells and whistles that will end up costing you nickels and dimes over the next decade. I plan on keeping mine for at least 10+ years. Just wish the bed was a touch longer, but that's my only minor complaint.

  • @john1cheree

I bought one of these last month, Mine is dark grey, I use the running board to sit on so I can poop in the woods.
The power is surprising, it has plenty of pep. And the gas mileage is better than the old 4 cylinder. Mine cost me 33 g's. There is a button to turn on and off the over drive on the left side of the shiftier. Lots of comfort in the sets.
I like!. I do NOT like WHITE, I took mine Elk hunting this year, and some the roads were questionable, NO PROBLEM.
And the gears did a good job holding the truck on the down grade.

Frontier sales are on the rise because people are waking up to the fact that you don’t need all that tech, soft touch BS and especially when it just adds 1000’s upon 1000’s to the price tag. If you’ve gotten so sissified that you need padding for your precious elbow, it’s time to stop with all the soy lol. The avg MSRP for a midsize truck is 38k and that’s just the damn avg. and full-size avg is just shy 65k. and easily hit $80k ( Lexus price levels)

The best part is that you can hurt this truck and break the plastic and replace it very cheap and not feel bad. I hate that its going to update. Parts are easy to find and buy and everything stays the same for the same price but a newer version. Industries that use trucks should buy only these. Their is barely any options which makes it cheaper for repairs and services. More durable. This is a truck that is made to work.

Just a bit biased were we? Overall a good review, but it was obvious you didn't take the time to learn the vehicle, ask the dealer to go over your points before making your vid to correct blatant errors, and fell in love with your y2k or time travel theme.
Tie downs... The track system tie downs come with the tracks and can be placed in the side tracks, under the rear windows, or pull out those fillers and lock the tie downs along the bed floor. I use mine all the time.
The "playing card slots" in the center console? Were you looking for the chance for another snarky comment or didn't recognize slots for business cards? We keep ours there, and change for the tolls as well. Seems you completely missed the second glove box as well.
No ac vents in the rear? They are under the front seats, right at the rear edge. I drive the 2015 Frontier Pro4x, and love it. I also own a 2010 Titan Pro4x. Both are great trucks.
Funny, I bought a new Charger, it was in the shop fourteen times in ten months for the touch screen. Kept failing. Just died. Controlled most of the car's functions. Heat and air, radio, nav... They had no clue. Bought another outdated Nissan.

  • @HiPlains1

Joe, its always hilarious to me when reviewers start to drive the Frontier. The reviews always start out taking about how old it is, dated, etc.. Then they start trashing the interior like it was made in 1910 lol. But once they start driving it they are always shocked. Yes, the VQ40 / five speed taught you something today lol. It said, yeah, I'm 15 years old but I can still eat a 3.5 taco for dessert. I did this the other day. Took out a 45K dollar taco pro like he was tied to a post. He was pissed lol and wanted to cut me off. That was from a light. The VQ has a ton of torque off the start. It may look dated but did you notice how ergonomic that cabin is? Big buttons, easy to read, everything at a fingers touch? Comfy seats? This thing is about function. Full box frame and all steel. Heavy duty everything. No hood wobble at speed like a cheapo Colorado. Not here. Plus you really need to drive the pro 4X. That is when this truck comes alive. With the bilsteins the ride is even better both on/offroad. Leather seats with 8 way power are class leading in the segment.

Good video but also do a 4cylinder Frontier that can be purchased for around 20000 to 24000. Not all need a 6cylinder.

Great truck! Just don't look at it. DON'T LOOK AT IT!!! Oh please! The only reason the design is an issue is because you know how old it is. It still looks great today.

Thank goodness thier is still competition in the midsize truck market, I have a Tacoma and prices are crazy high. Good to see thier is more affordable options without giving up power or reliability.

I wouldn’t buy one cause it’s nothing like a Ram, Chevy/GMC , Ford. It is a nice tho.

Mystic TK that’s because Ram doesn’t have a midsize truck. And of course nothing like the Colorado and Ranger because it’s cheaper, so it’s gonna lack features

Hha this is an Mercun truck tho! Has far more us sourced and built parts than any you mentioned with final assembly here in TN. Guarantee you with as tough as mine has been for 14 brutal years years the junk yard hounds who dismantle that crap you mentioned will be driving frontiers that are still running with outdated plastics and all 😅

246 hp in description and in video you state 251 hp. How about 261 HP... When doing a video it is good to know the stats. Just trying to help you out.

I'm on my 3rd Nissan truck. Put 100k on my 85, 200k on my 91 Hardbody, and 82k so far on my 2011 Frontier. I see no reason to even look at the new Frontier if it ever comes out. I really like the proven simplicity of the Frontier.

The ONLY reason they sell is because they are lower priced than the competition. Update that steering wheel and I’d consider one...

I own a 2003 Nissan Frontier. It's been a good little truck but I don't think I'd have one of these new ones from what my mechanic told me and from what I read on the internet. They have a problem with the cooling radiator for the transmission. A seal can leak which separates the transmission fluid from the coolant fluid which can cause some serious problems mixing coolant with the transmission fluid into the Transmissions. I heard of a few cases of this and it seems that Nissan has not fixed the problem

Old, simple and very reliable. I'm not fan of many special features that will give me problems in the future. All I want is a simple and reliable truck. Now that I'm base here in canada. I will still consider to buy it. I own a 2017 navara sport edition 2.5 diesel 7speed auto tranny, rear coil spring suspension. Good ride and reliable truck.
