Thank you for doing the math out loud and saying how much hair sheds every day! I feel bad when ppl take out protective styles and get very sad about the shedding. It's natural and healthy and you did nothing wrong! ♥️

I just started leaving my protective styles in for 3 months last year. I'm in my second three month protective style. First time I did cornrows.. Now I am on little three strand plaits, no extensions (we call them matutas in Kenya) The growth I saw after my last protective styling was phenomenal. I hooe to do this all of 2021 and finally get my hair waist length.

I followed your advice by not putting anything on my scalp while I had my crochet in, which completely eliminated itching and scalp irritation, AND I left it in for 7wks instead of 4wks, MAJOR DIFFERENCE in the hair growth and length retention and very minimal shedding. You helped me nail my crochet routine, thank you so much! Waist length here I come! 🙌

From 2017 to 2020 I have had my hair consistently in crochet twists, and I've left them in for 3 months and a little after the 3rd month and man....I've seen so much growth in those 3 years!!! It was mind blowing, I was impressed and now I'm going to start again in 2021! And yes I did get shedding and I used to see some shedding hair and it freaked me out one time and then I found out it was normal🤣. And I also did not put any products except hair oil because I noticed build up with the products.
I really appreciate this video and your content and its helped me out a lot! Thank you!❤

@@traceydumase I wash my hair while it’s in box braids and since I have low porosity hair, I spritz it with water every 2 days, apply castor oil to the scalp(new growth) and then use a heat cap and my blow dryer to let it absorb into my hair. If you have high porosity hair, no need for the heat cap and blow dryer.
I now follow her( Seun’s) leave your hair alone to retain length method and guess what! I learnt how to box braid my whole head of hair because salons use comb to destroy my hair in the name of overcombing it.

How do you do it?? It's the 5th week for me. My hair isn't even dirty since i wash the braids frequently but I'm just over them.. I really want to keep it for 3 months but i don't know if i can tbh..

    • @pilgrimonanarrowway2034
      @pilgrimonanarrowway2034 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@ileri-tu2dk I don't think you should wash your braids frequently as you would your hair without the braids (my opinion) as you will be loosening the hair quickly and I think you want to keep them looking as fresh as you can.
Keep spraying moisturizer ( I use creme mixed with water in a spray bottle) and put oil sometimes too but not too often. I stress on moisturizing your braids often. If you are in a warm environment you might need to wash your hair of you feel it's dirty but I just tried this and it's winter here, I have only washed it once in two months 😂 and planning to do it once more before I take them out in 2 weeks. Best wishes sis

I'm having braid extensions in my hair. Because I make sure my scalp is healthy, my shedding is minimum. Hence I retain a lot of length: 2 to 3 inches in a month...no joke 😇

@@SeunOkimi actually planned to keep my hair for three months but something terrible happened...there was a fire accident at home and my hair caught fire, luckily for me it was the crochet that got burnt. It affected my front hair tho. I'm still wearing the weave tho,I plan to keep it in for three weeks more before I take the whole thing down.

Hey, thanks for this video. I was wondering why my hair stopped growing despite the efforts I'm making. just got a tip from your video- 3 months is a reasonable time to get good length, I tried it sometime back but didn't realise it. Thanks Seun

I wear wigs and i leave my protective style in 3-4months and my shedding/breakage is about twice as this if not a little more 😅 plus a little more comes out when i wash it. My hair is about 22" but im getting tired of it because wash day is to much and i dont get trims and treatments as i should. Im yrying to do but and not give up because my hair just wont stop growing i wanna see how long i could get it. Also, im trying to get it a little thicker so we'll see

..wait, i found out what happened to me:
" But for others - especially those with fine hair -
even just a touch of excess oil can have quite the opposite effect.
When fine or thin hair goes unwashed, it can start to stick together and look even finer"

Seun, I love your videos, my fave on TH-cam. Thank you for teaching me to stop combing my hair when wet (what was I thinking???) How do you avoid your hair locking (dreading) when it is in protective styles? Does locking lead to extra hair loss?
