But actually knew he was in the Appalachians immediately & just south of D.C. & thru my tears told my hubby that Oliver Anthony is OUR mockinjay!

A lot of these people gave everything in the coal mines. My grandma lost her husband in West Van Lear Kentucky in a coal mine accident and he was a young man. Thank you to them all God bless them all!

I'm 49 white guy,3 kids(oldest is 22 and Downs), mortgage 1850.00 in Remington (nowhereville), however 45 minutes from Farmville and struggling at25/hr. Old man grew up picking cotton and milking in TN and graduated from MTSU. Ran to VA (graduated 4yr program in3) and met my mother who escaped from WVA, Ha. It seems intentional to me. Idk,shits crazy yo!! Thinking about becoming a recluse. Loved your reaction bruh. Do I wanna go home next man!

The instrument is a dobro and the metal part is called a resonator. The resonator is what gives it sort of the banjo-like sound. I love it! Your commentary on the state of the country is spot on.

His stage name & "Oliver Anthony Music" were chosen as an homage to his granddad.
From what I can see, the instrument in the videos is a G9220 "Bobtail" Resonator guitar by Gretsch.
There's a special cone under that metal pan that gives the resonators their distinctly Banjo-ish tones...
and that's a 2nd skin glove for Appalachian Folk music.

The Guitar is a "Gretsch Resonator". It has a resonator in the center that makes its tone trend to the high end of the sound spectrum.

I'm a retired machinist and I thank God everyday that I met my wife who was the CFO of a large bank that spanned several Southern states.
She has experience in handling money and has dealt with our money for the last 30 years.
Without her I dont know where we'd be.

I have worked in social work for years and, although I don't want to go into too much depth, one thing that most people don't realize is that is extremely expensive to be poor. He has been pretty open about his own health issues both physically and mentally. Our safety net systems stink if you don't have money. One other thing, the average person receiving SNAP benefits is not "a fat person who won't work". The vast majority are working, sometimes 2 jobs, but the pay is so bad, they still qualify. If you want to take a deeper dive, you can look up how the "cliff effect" keeps people in poverty. An author named Matthew Desmond has a lot of important things to say about poverty and housing in this country. I'm very familiar with what he's talking about since I grew up in Kentucky but also have moved around to different sections of the United States. We all may be speaking English as our language but the cultural differences are vastly different.

So, I have seen this video going viral for a while, but I waited to watch it with you, so this is my first time hearing too. I'm glad I did. I love your insights.
The beauty of this man and his song is that no matter what you look like or how you talk, you can relate to him and to what he is saying. I was just in western Virginia and I saw where some of these rural people live and believe me, they are a continent away from being rich. They watch the TV news and read the mainstream media attacking Trump and what do they have in their lawns? Trump 2023 signs. Biden and the Democrats talk AT them, while Trump talks TO them. Huge difference. This is probably one of the best protest songs written and performed since the 1960s.
I rejoice when I see a young person that has been given 😊so much wisdom. You will go far and influence many in a good direction. Just keep telling folks the truth and hopefully they will see it.

I worked on political campaigns in the 80s and 90s, one was a successful presidential campaign, and now at age 57, I would NEVER EVER EVER trust anyone that trusts any politician. I don't care if he/she told me they were personally going to deliver me a pot of gold every month and I had already read the notification that it was en route to my house that day. I watched Congressmen from opposite parties almost come to screaming matches on the House floor, leave there and be interviewed and trash each other on live TV and immediately after their individual interviews, walk out, slap each other on the back and head out to $500 a plate dinners together and laugh and drink like the best of buddies.
This wasn't just a one time thing, this was the norm. Those people hate us. They genuinely hate us.
