I have done done phd from iit, net jrf qualify in pg, ug and pg from good central university and i am still jobless, for university u should have good contact. I am giving advice, dont do phd, prepare for ssc, banking, or some job preparation after MSc

Hey there! Nice to know your perspective. I completely agree that Ph.D. duration is extremely fluctuating from case to case. The academic job market is also quite dangerous. I'm doing my Ph.D. in France, and it is not super good even here in Europe. However, I've also seen if students give sufficient time in doing postdocs, mostly they do get into faculty positions in Europe. For India, it is still highly competitive. Regarding many comments about Ph.D.s from IIT/NITs, I would say that for a Ph.D, the institution rarely matters (it does only in some cases). Mostly, the supervisor and the lab is of paramount importance. During my masters in India, I've seen the Ph.D. process in IISc/JNCASR/ICTS, and I can say not everyone is very happy with their institutions. Hopefully, the Indian government will try to put more focus into education, though I don't see anyone in the cabinet interested to do so.
I request to all ofvmy friends, Who want to do PhD. If ur guide is so cooperative then u can do PhD. Otherwise not to do PhD. Guide is most important things in PhD. I am suffering this problem 😢😢

I agree with you. I'm doing my Masters in Commerce now and i saw with my own eyes that a professor who just did his Masters and M.Phil got job as Assistant Professor in "day" shift. There are many who completed their NET, M.Phil and PHd but still stuck as Management staff for years. Yeah you need to have both good contacts and luck. This might not applicable to all.
Completely agree, i did masters from top govt university, main faculty branch, good cgps, qualified net, but then covid came and couldn't qualify for phd entrances in some colleges couldn't give exam bcz f covid, got Completely heartbroken, did a menial corporate job saved some money and now doing b.ed, i feel such regret to have wasted golden years of my youth in preparing and qualifying net which i could have invested in job or doing some professional course like b.ed or mba, I have many friends who completed their PhDs from good universities but are still unemployed or working in corporate for very low salary

I've completed my MSc in Clinical Psychology one year ago. Preparing for PhD for last one year while did some teaching jobs and taking therapy sessions. Also just cleared my JRF in fifth attempt (attempting since MSc). Now finally I think I'll land a PhD position in a IISER. PhD is tough. It's not a default thing to do. You sign up for the hardwork. Reading 5 articles for one line, well sorry it came out so hard on you but that's basic research. I did that for my Master's dissertation as well. My field (psychology) isn't sooo mainstream. So I did know what I'm getting into before and during my Master's. But your life sciences is even lower in availability as a course. It's a fact that you have lesser opportunities. My suggestion to you is getting into teaching jobs in your hometown or your alma maters. Get in touch with people. Work on JRF if you can and with combined effort you'll reach asst prof jobs soon. It is what it is. You were just not aware of the stuff. Jab jaago tabhi savera.

A simple advice to all the motivated fellows, don't live in fantasy world. During masters we are highly motivated such that it makes one blind. A simple best advice is work on JRF position or project position for at least 6 months so that yo should know what's going to be the reality check. this simple trick may take 6 months but it will save yours years. In india phd time takes only because it takes at least yrs for a candidate to get reality about all academic field. I have seen here in IITs leaving their phds. I would suggest to join state uni for phd if your advisor have connectons, its a connection game.

I want to say one thing if you have good contact 😂you can do without net phd and can become permanent professor without PhD. Reality of university. You can face discrimination bwteen part time and full time students and jrf and net students. I will recommend you dont do phD spend your time on competitive exam if you can crack jrf you can do anything.

B Ed will take another 2 years. Take a private sector job and start preparing for govt job if you desperately need financial independence. If it is possible for you to wait for 2 years then complete your B.Ed prepare for CTET and then you can become a teacher.
