- PhD is Doctorate of Philosophy in a particular subject. Unfortunately many PhD aspirants are unaware of the untold struggle ahead of PhD and they drain out all their energies working for the PhD only. Lets talk about the problem as well as solution to this problem prevailing in India.

I have done done phd from iit, net jrf qualify in pg, ug and pg from good central university and i am still jobless, for university u should have good contact. I am giving advice, dont do phd, prepare for ssc, banking, or some job preparation after MSc
I was going to elaborate giving this kind of example only. Dark reality part-2 will contain something on this. How to approach to any govt job and switch from PhD. Many people are spending 7-8 years after which they are left with very little energy to pursue something else.

Agreed. When age limit is crossed opportunities are less. Many categories have age relaxation. But for general its 32.

Sorry to say brother, but if you focuses only on money than don't pursue PhD. But if you are interested in hard core research work, than you will definitely go for PhD.
Hey there! Nice to know your perspective. I completely agree that Ph.D. duration is extremely fluctuating from case to case. The academic job market is also quite dangerous. I'm doing my Ph.D. in France, and it is not super good even here in Europe.
However, I've also seen if students give sufficient time in doing postdocs, mostly they do get into faculty positions in Europe. For India, it is still highly competitive.
Regarding many comments about Ph.D.s from IIT/NITs, I would say that for a Ph.D, the institution rarely matters (it does only in some cases). Mostly, the supervisor and the lab is of paramount importance. During my masters in India, I've seen the Ph.D. process in IISc/JNCASR/ICTS, and I can say not everyone is very happy with their institutions.
Hopefully, the Indian government will try to put more focus into education, though I don't see anyone in the cabinet interested to do so.

I've completed my MSc in Clinical Psychology one year ago. Preparing for PhD for last one year while did some teaching jobs and taking therapy sessions. Also just cleared my JRF in fifth attempt (attempting since MSc). Now finally I think I'll land a PhD position in a IISER.
PhD is tough. It's not a default thing to do. You sign up for the hardwork. Reading 5 articles for one line, well sorry it came out so hard on you but that's basic research. I did that for my Master's dissertation as well. My field (psychology) isn't sooo mainstream. So I did know what I'm getting into before and during my Master's.
But your life sciences is even lower in availability as a course. It's a fact that you have lesser opportunities.
My suggestion to you is getting into teaching jobs in your hometown or your alma maters. Get in touch with people. Work on JRF if you can and with combined effort you'll reach asst prof jobs soon.

Brother I have already landed up in a Govt job and settled in life. I have just shared my experiences and I have given my own opinion about this. If you dont agree with this then its your own opinion. I am not dependent on youtube for my bread and butter.
Please dont misguide people without entering into PhD and watching the reality from close.
Wah you're an Odia, well I'm posted here in Odisha. Nice to meet you & same realisation I already have been enlightened with long back. Thank God I didn't take that wrong route & now I'm a happy PGT under the Ministry of Education, GOI❤ because teaching has always been my first priority & passion.

The fact is that you were not clear about your goals when you intended to pursue a PhD. Don't make your career decision just because your seniors tell you so. It's your life, you have to decide which career suits you well. If you join PhD, then you are willing to invest a long time and effort, so make your decision wisely before joining.
Some are NET masters and some PH.D. masters , two different faculties..can't be both ideally, we try to mix them like oil and water...😂

A simple advice to all the motivated fellows, don't live in fantasy world. During masters we are highly motivated such that it makes one blind. A simple best advice is work on JRF position or project position for at least 6 months so that yo should know what's going to be the reality check. this simple trick may take 6 months but it will save yours years. In india phd time takes only because it takes at least yrs for a candidate to get reality about all academic field. I have seen here in IITs leaving their phds. I would suggest to join state uni for phd if your advisor have connectons, its a connection game.
Ma'am mera msc hogya he me net ki prep bhi krhi thi sath me or msc acche se kiya he i got gold medal in it bt mujhe research me interest nhi he bilkul ab mujhe kya krna chiye should i start preparing for gov exams bt there also huge competition i face what should i do ma'am 😢
Go for corporate. Dont waste time on silly govt jobs if ur from general category.
If your first priority os the job, find a job. Why to waste your time and energy in PhD
Every body priority is settlement not charity like mother Teresa either scholar or government aspirants . Government should also focus on research problems . In research , problem like a spider web
Completely agree, i did masters from top govt university, main faculty branch, good cgps, qualified net, but then covid came and couldn't qualify for phd entrances in some colleges couldn't give exam bcz f covid, got Completely heartbroken, did a menial corporate job saved some money and now doing b.ed, i feel such regret to have wasted golden years of my youth in preparing and qualifying net which i could have invested in job or doing some professional course like b.ed or mba, I have many friends who completed their PhDs from good universities but are still unemployed or working in corporate for very low salary

I am totally not fever Ph.D opportunities given to the students who have completed 4 years of degree. Atleast Master must be according to me

College ne prdhne k lye only NET QUALIFIED KAFI HONA CHAYE PHD INSERVICE KARNA CHAYE
Competition itna zyada hai ki ab only NET se nahi hota. Job kum hai aur log zyada hai. API score PhD se 30 marks se badh jata hai
Isliye main net set qualify karne ki baad bhi PhD nahi kar rhi😞 job prep le rhi. Job lag jayegi tab phd kar lungi. Csc to west bengal me nhi hoti hain thik se. And with out phd job pane ka chance nhi hain.@@AnweshawithDhananjay

Di aapse ek suggestion chahiye aapse, mera graduation final huaa isi sal, and sath me government job ka preparation kr rha, and MA entrance nikla hai is sal BHU. Aur mai MA ke bad BED ka bhi plan Kiya hai, kya Jana thik hoga, MA beneficial hai, thoda suggest kre.

Two wrongs don't make a right. She was just unaware about things. PhD is PhD. If you don't prepare well it'll kill you, sometimes even literally. Yes there are many variables as well but you can't complain unless you have your own prep right.

B Ed will take another 2 years. Take a private sector job and start preparing for govt job if you desperately need financial independence. If it is possible for you to wait for 2 years then complete your B.Ed prepare for CTET and then you can become a teacher.
