When my wife was a teenager she worked as a counselor for the Edmonds School District youth camp at Silverton Washington in the summers of 1969 and 1970. They took the students to visit many of the historical sites in Monte Cristo . It has been very interesting to see the changes at Monte Cristo over the years. Thanks for documenting these old mines and relics.
Thanks for the great video.I know exactly where this mine is back in 90 or 91 me and some Friends rode our mountain bikes up to Montecristo. We stayed the night up there in the lower field. The following day when we went for a hike up the valley we passed that area and figured that there was a mineshaft up there. Didn’t have enough time to explore that and go all the way up to the top of the valley.
Interesting place for sure, with some solid history. Come spring, you guys need to do more dry side trips! I'd happily join you for up to the point of hiking and crawling around holes, I don't do so good at those anymore, but I spend a little time exploring old logging and mining roads and finding cool rocks. Gonna poke around Republic, Wauconda, Molson area this year. My great grandfather was justice of the peace in Molson in the teens. Everywhere I turn up there, there's little family tidbits. He's on the wall at the townsite. Sparser history on many, but tons of former boomtowns around the NE corner.
I did some research on this specific mine, leading to my intrest. What I found is that it was closed down due to seasonal flooding washing out the access roads and rails, meaning it was still producing when closed down. As a hobby prospector this is a great location to poke around because of its difficult to access location and rich mineral deposits.
Thank you for another excellent video, it is amazing what they did with limited technology, at least as we consider it. Preserving this for history is very good, as well. I haven't been up there in several years, will try to get there this summer.
I’m guessing you’re not seeing much of an ore vein because this appears to be a haulage level. The ore vein could be in the upper workings that the ore chutes come from.
Great work guy's loved seeing this old mine! Glad the O2 leveled out so you could make it all the way! Thank you for taking us along, look forward to the next explore 👍 👍
The golden cord mine above is open and pretty cool, not long but clean and nice ladders and stuff. You can look down the manway that connects to the justice mine Would love to repel down some day.
Hi There! Newer subscriber and enjoying your videos immensely! Question for you is the timbers in this mine looked to be treated in tar Was this for longevity in the wood?
Hi, we have seen both treated and untreated at differentsites, in this particular mine, not 100% sure if the timbers were treated. I appreciate your question and thank you for watching
We could not find specific production numbers on the metals extracted, we know that between this mine and its neighbor 310.000 tons of ore came from the two.
The fact that the trek into this area by the dudes that discovered the deposits happened at all is crazy all in itself cause it's not like it's on the way to anywhere! Then the narrow Guage railroad and whole town getting built in a bowl surrounded by peaks that I'd not want to live under happened too. Not many people are okay with trying to reach any of the high portals cause its not an easy task to accomplish & can be quite dangerous! I've been up to the town and made my way to a few different portals but didn't video any of it so thank you for being dumb/crazy/brave enough to reach one of these portals and video the mine for us😁🤟🤟
They would look at the geology of the area, and the surface geology of the location be inconsidered they would also sample the material and possibly do some test snub adits.
Going way back carrying water-filled buckets manually. Thomas Savery an English inventor was the first to realize that a steam engine could be used to pump water out of mines, so he patented an early form of a steam engine. In the 20th century submersible pumps offered another innovation in mine dewatering.
It's been about 30 years, but that looks like the Justice/Golden Chord?? if so the gold values were much lower at that level than in the workings a few hundred feet above. That is typical in the Monte Cristo district; deceasing precious metal values with increasing depth, while the base metal values remained consistent.
@@ghosttownsandminesofwashington I sampled that level back in the 90's, even though the lead content was high, the gold values were quite low, when compared to the upper level, as I recall less than 0.25 OPT.
Anyone know of any cool areas around the kitsap peninsula that have some cool things to explore?? I live right down the street from the Starvation Heights location but all that come by that are Satanists......
I like that you showed the map as you explored the mine!
Glad you liked it, and thank you!

Thats really cool. I live in Oroville. Love checking out all the old mining activity in the area. Molson is such a cool area. Love fishing up there.
Yes we did several over that way last year and plan to do some this summer.
Nice work Tim. One of my favorite mines to explore.
Thanks Daryl
@@ghosttownsandminesofwashingtonI remember when many of the town buildings were still there before looters descended
Thanks for a great clip ! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you. We appreciate you watching.
Awesome!! 📝 Adding things to the list of places to explore when I visit there this year. Thanks for uploading as always.
Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy your visit!

That was really amazing. Hard to imagine all of the workers underground back in the day. Thanks for all you do 🌞🙏
We appreciate you watching and your kind words.
Nice explore! Its been decades since I have been up in those mines. Good memories!
We are glad to take you back. Thank you. We appreciate it.

Very cool always enjoyable watching your videos thanks for sharing this looking forward to your next one.
We appreciate you watching and look forward to sharing our next adventure with you.
Amazing explore as always! Truly top notch content!!
Thank you very much!
Very good explore, very complete, thank you.
Thank you appreciate your comments.

True, although the ore bodies for this mine and others nearby ran out 500 feet from the surface.
Great work guy's loved seeing this old mine! Glad the O2 leveled out so you could make it all the way! Thank you for taking us along, look forward to the next explore 👍 👍
Glad we made it out to be able to share it with you. Appreciate you watching and thanks.
Fantastic exploration
Thank you, very appreciated.
Pretty cool. I’ve been in that area for climbing but never had time to explore.
Thanks for watching and the comment. It is a great area to explore lots to find out there.
One of the most remote is the trinity mine way up at the end of Chihuahua River road near Lake Wenatchee.
Yes it is.
Monte Cristo is one of the coldest places I've ever hiked to after the sun begins to set. I could never enter those mines. I'm glad you're safe.
Thank you. Appreciate your comment.
Nice video! Thank you
Thank you

All good stuff, yeah, a rappel down would be very cool. Appreciate the comments, Chris.
Nice work

Amazing how long that wood lasts inside the mines. In all that water.
It is impressive for sure.
I would be so tempted to grab some samples out of the chutes. That stuff looks good but one wrong rock can loosen it up
That is true. At least there is one that spilled all its contents to select from. Thanks for the comments.
How many tons of gold were taken out of this mine? Thanks for the adventure. Sure was up some steep ground to get to the entrance.
We could not find specific production numbers on the metals extracted, we know that between this mine and its neighbor 310.000 tons of ore came from the two.
OMG, I know EXACTLY where you are😅
👍

How did they choose the mines location?
They would look at the geology of the area, and the surface geology of the location be inconsidered they would also sample the material and possibly do some test snub adits.
how come you didn't go down the other drift towards the bottom of the map?
Appears it was collapsed
@ well damn, I think it was 2022 when I went is this mine and I went to the end of that drift. That’s scary to think about.
Looks like a sluice box that wooden platform but I don't know why it would be right there
If we're talking about the same thing, it was like a skip chute
How did the dewater in the old days ?

Great video except when you want to show us a portion of the wall’s, you pan to quickly to appreciate what we’re supposed to see.
Thanks for watching. Appreciate the comments and feedback.
Sir did you found any grave
No we did not.
I'm getting claustrophobic just watching. Probably a lot of back breaking work for not much money.
It was hard work for sure. Thanks for the comments.

Email us ghost.wa@comcast.net
Starvation Heights? That means there is gold there. A few canyons down, at gold gulch, you will find only a few fly poops.
