  • In this video, I am demonstrating how to use Spotlight and Point Of Interest on the DJI Mavic 3. These intelligent flight modes are part of the FocusTrack system and can be a powerful tool for drone pilots when it comes to capturing dynamic shots. Unlike other flight modes that can be a little gimmicky Spotlight and POI are very useful for both new drone pilots and seasoned professionals. This DJI Mavic 3 Spotlight and Point Of Interest tutorial shows how easy it is to set up and capture your shot.

    I like using POI on my videos! I'm not sure if a lot of pilot use this but actually it's a convenient feature, like a quickshot only with more flexible options

    You answered my question (difference of POI and Spotlight) so thank you, taking my DJI Mini 3 Pro on an Norwegian Cruise Line Prima Cruise for Norfolk, VA and Bermuda this upcoming week. So excited! Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I just bought a Mavic 3 Classic, not to long ago. Already, I'm recovering from a hard crash, just a POI. I wanted to test RTH, since the drone kept landing 5 to 10 feet away from launch site which was from the middle of a road. I fired up the drone and controller waited till I had 20 satellites and Home has been updated. Flew the drone up 25 and manual updated RTH again. Well at this point, since I watched last night a cool video of someone walking through thick forest and using POI tracking, I decided to give it a try. This was my very first experience with automation at work other than the drone flying far above the trees doing a waypoint mission. The drone was able to track me, but I was in Spotlight mode, so I changed it to POI once I got to my destination. Once I turned, in order grab my chainsaw, to work on a cutting some wood, the drone decided to go and quickly say hi to a large maple tree. I heard the drone smack and the cracking sound. Down, down, down the drone went into the thick blackberry bushes. The back propeller was totally missing, and it took a while to find it. Again it was difficult getting to the drone that was in thick blackberry bushing, and for the record the drone was up about 25 feet, so well clear of the blackberry bushes when it crashed. The good news is the drone's camera appears to be fine and the drone came with a spare propeller. The bad news, as a newbie, I now have fear that if I allow the drone to fly by itself again, while in the forest, that it will make another bee line straight for the nearest tree. And, yes all the sensors were on, I fly in Normal and Bypass modes. The trees are not that close, compared to the video that I saw on TH-cam last night. It makes be wonder if that guy was blessed or just edited out all the crashes? So, I typed this comment just in case any "new drone pilots" think the tracking software is great to use in a forest. The ones that are promoting tracking are generally flying where there are no trees, trees are off in the distance, or potentially editing out their crashes. Flying in POI tracking mode while in a forest with this Classic drone appears to be potentially hazardous! Hope this helps someone on this topic. Now on to trying to test that solution to fixing RTH landing....Cheers.

    Thanks. Your videos are always concise and professional without a lot of unnecessary time. Plus, you put out enough quantity and variety that we don't forget about you.
    I have seen others on the same subject that I get bored with and don't finish, yet at my age, I can't get too many repetitions ahead of time or in actual practice.

    Spotlight is an awesome feature, I need to use more than I do. My only problem with features like Spotlight is that I want to use it during a flight, but I've already started it in DLOG, or 5k, or a high frame rate. And of course it won't let me, so I have to stop the flight and change settings, and many times that's not a good option. Great demo and explanation of how this feature works. Thanks for sharing.

    Like always great video. My problem is TREES!!! when flying my Air2S for my lawn mowing videos I'm limited to using the POI setting, but I was wondering how close or how tight can you set the "circle "and or radius? There's one area on my property that has to be set just right in order to avoid hitting a tree. If you have any pro tips let me know.

    I've been looking for that Spotlight in the menu and it's hiding someplace. How do you get it to show? Oh, using the M3 Classic and RC-Pro. I'm sure you have to be flying and then maybe draw your box before it pops up. Need to try that tomorrow.

      Make sure you have the latest firmware because these firmware that comes preinstalled and the drone is not up-to-date it will not allow you to select subjects yet. Once you’re running updated firmware all you have to do is draw on any object on the screen with your finger

      If you do a search for the Lowbanks that is the closest town. And it’s just off the coast from Rock Point Provincial Park. It’s approximately 2 km off the shoreline. The little island that sits on is called Mohawk Island some also refer to it as gull island

    This may have been asked before. Is there a way to take still photos, let’s say every two seconds automatically while flying around the light house. I would like to do the circle automatically. Also will the GPS coordinates be capture with each picture taken?

    When I use POI I’ll use the right joystick to push the drone closer to the subject. When I let go of the joystick for some reason the drone backs away from the subject a little bit, making the video not look as smooth. I never had this issue with the Mavic pro 2. Does anyone know how to fix this with the Mavic 3?
    Also with the Mavic 3when using the POI and using left joyStick to go up and down the drone is wayyyy more slow going up and down than the Mavic pro 2, making me almost hit trees. Any advice on fixing that too?

  • @MrGirodog

    Can you take control of drone while in POI and Spot light mode ? I thought it was automatic? Thanks

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, well it is doing one of the intelligent flight functions at any time you can adjust the sticks to change the position. And then of course, hit the cancel button to stop it all together.

  • @aerialexcel9631

    What’s the difference between poi and spotlight?

    • @AirPhotography
      @AirPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you select point of interest the drone will just circle around either a stationary or moving subject and will continue to circle until you stop it. With spotlight once you select a subject the drone will not move. It’s up to you to move the sticks but it will keep the subject either stationary or moving in the center of frame

    • @robwasnj
      @robwasnj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AirPhotography I wouldn't be so sure because recently they went the other direction and now it only works in standard picture profile. If you try using it in D-Log a message comes up that spotlight is not available in D-Log mode. I do wonder if the Air2s has been crippled purposely in favor of the Mavic 3.
