I'm a retired engineer and I can say that was some brilliant design and engineering you accomplished! Thanks for all the information. I just purchased my '85 C-22 and am watching TH-cams from all the experienced owners trying to learn as much as I can. It is like drinking through a firehose!
Just found your channel and love your ideas. Widowed 10 yrs. I bought a very nice McGreagor 25 swing keel with a great trailer that has only been in fresh water about 9 yrs ago. Honestly I bought it to distract me from the hurt but do intend to sail it before long. Life on the farm gets busy sometimes. I love your ideas of tongue extension, storage for rudder and mast support. Your ideas make it a lot easier to handle a boat without help from others especially at 69. Suscribed to your Channel. Thanks for the info.
Hi! Thanks for the awesome videos! I have watched several. On you Catalina 22 trailer modification what was the tubing size and wall thickness you used? I have a MacGregor 22-2 and want to extend my tongue for launching but want to make sure that it is stout enough. I will reposition my axle to get the tongue weight in the 230 - 325# range for a 2300# trailer, so very similar to what you have. Thanks for your response and may God Bless you in your adventures.
I would suggest buying the steel from a fabrication shop rather than from local hardware store or Lowes because the steel maybe of heavier material as well as maybe stronger not coming from China. The towing tube is 2” square, where a standard 2” trailer end will fit if perfectly, but the towing ball is only 1 7/8” for this size where your present trailer may be of a 2” size. Therefore you will need another receiver for your vehicle as I do, not shown in the video. The tube weight is a standard thickness at 4 feet long, it’s enough for light towing around in the parking lot. I would suggest a stronger thickness if your extension is going to be longer than 4 to 6 feet. The plate steel for holding this extension is 1/4 “ thick, all works great but the hinge part, on a redo I would make this park out of thicker material because of it bolt clamping to the trailer, I some times have to take a hammer and tap this part a few times to drive it toward the back of the trailer to align with the pin holes for final attachment before towing on the highway.

Thank You!
You have the background, the more you use the boat the best video will stand out, don't rush it!
Aren't we lucky to have all these videos available! I'm hopefully going to buy soon.
