for a good 2 minutes i thought you were blondie in china
Nothing but admiration for anyone undertaking a solo 2000k bike tour in a foreign country, holding down a job, and creating some of my favorite content on the internet! I read in another comment you're "taking your time" editing (not enough hours in the day) the video, but selfishly the wait is killing me. Thanks, have fun, and stay safe.
Shill doesn't count as a job
Great to have you back Katherine! It is very fresh contents you are making here. You know, it is not a new phenomenon that foreign influencers flocked in to report China. But we often got bored soon by those view count oriented contents which seeks too much attention on the bling bling(hardware) side of China. You on the other hand refuse to be classified as those and continuously do it your way without a single step back. How precious it is! Your focus on the ordinary people, rural areas rarely seen from other bloggers, cultural aspects of a transforming society and seemingly trivial matters like environmental topics are actually more revealing of how China it is today. You have reported more of a China an ordinary person will likely to experience than those bling bling bloggers do. Thanks for your hard work. Please keep up! Take care of yourself and safe journey.
yup. She shows the real China and how much progress the Chinese restore nature and improving the green economy. The west just talk green while China is just quietly doing it.
👍🏻 🦉
Sorry to keep disappearing, it takes forever to edit these videos especially in between long days of biking and other work projects 🥲🥲 I am doing my best 😜 glad you like these vlogs, more coming soon 🚲
Excellent description of what Katherine does.
Cattt: Even the big cities are China. Her fans claim that the real China is rural China. No, the real China is BOTH the cities and rural China. Americans insist that China is poor and rural. China has fantastic cities too. They sure are cleaner and have fewer crimes than those in the USA.
It's always a joy to watch Katherine lights up with villages, goats encounter, funny conversations, clean waters, random couch and most of all, her seemingly tiring bike rides, though not to her. :)
It is remarkable how China manage to restore all these temples in these third or fourth tier cities/villages. I was travelling in a couple of them last month and it's like those shown in this video.
its not only that, they still build even new temples . I live a bit further north from shanghai, in nantong area, and there i went to a buddhist temple looking like the old ones you know, only that it was build from 2018-2021, and still needs some final adjustments. Here they also copied an ancient garden with a big merchants house (from the qing dynasty) for relaxing purposes, it looks exactly like the original. If you look around you will find a lot of gems here in China , I am so glad to have moved to China withmy chinese wife.
@@WilhelminaRaThat Buddhist temple was built by donations from local businesses, as are most new temples. They build as funds become available. The temple you mentioned has its own vege plot that provides for the supply of greens... I had dinner with the head monk a couple of times several years ago!! 😂
Could someone kindly explain the concept of city/village tiers? Thanks
@@jackolantern7342 it's a categorization of the GDP and population of any given city, 1st tier being the highest that include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, etc and tier 2 includes cities like Guiyang, Changchun, Dalian, and Harbin.
It is remarkable how China manage to do so many things such as space program, GPS, HSR, roads, bridges, renewable energies (hydroelectricity, solar power, thermal, nuclear, etc.), alleviation of poverty, education, 5G, health care, environmental clean up, just to name a few. And this was done within last 10 to 20 years.
Alas, the elusive wild couch makes another appearance! You must have quite the charm and presence for a lady to offer her son in marriage. Safe travels.

How wonderful it is to cycle around. Great video Kat.

Happen to bump into your channel this morning and immediately get attracted by the sceneries of countryside and small town in Wen Zhou. Keep going and show us more of your exciting tours of China.
Hi 阳离子, been your subscriber for a few years now, from Nanjing, love your video as always. Just a small thought off the topic, the very thing got me thinking when the stranger in the video taking selfie with you was calling you russian girl, to me it is nearly impossible to imagine a russian girl with your traits. Actually the US is probably one of the few countries that can actually produce or educate someone like you, open-minded, adventurous, easy-going, confident and willing to embrace culture from other places, not saying Russia doesn't have this type of person, but the very thing you strike me as an American at first impression means something. Only for this matter I think we need to have a healthy and strong tie with your nation, even though Washington today is filled with anti-China sentiments and politician and China vice-versa in certain degree. Hope the kind of you can keep 加油, contents like this deserve way more credits then it does now.
Thanks for showing us small town China. I've loving every minute of it. What you notice on your journey and the commentary that accompanies it is bar none the wittiest when it comes to China vloggers. You've got to get into comedy. I can envision you doing witty banters back and forth. 🦉🦜

You are one very determined lady. Good for you and wish you only the best and lots of joy.
Sorry for the late comments but love your small city towns tour. You're the only one giving us those tuck away places which makes your vlog do unique. I hope you write about your cycle your in a story or picture book or better yet a documentary
Kath, love your posts and adventures and looked forward to watching them. Honestly, you and a few other Westerners living in China have awoken the half-Chinese part of me which makes me yearn to go back to that part of me. And hearing you guys speaking fluent Mandarin makes me green with envy! P/S: Still not sure what you do for a living and, I think, that is the 3rd time someone mistaken you for being Russian.
"Lots of these guys" are guardian lions (known in Chinese as shi or shishi (石獅) which are placed on both sides of Chinese houses, buildings, and temples to guard against evil spirits. Interestingly, these did not originate in China itself, but in Persia which were presented as gifts to the Han court by Persian diplomats and, by the sixth century CE, they had become popular as guardian representations for the rich and powerful.
I work at an environmental organization , this bike tour is a repeat of the one my boss did 20 years ago. I’m making some fun little vlogs out of it but a lot of footage is going to be used for work projects as well . Observations about environmental changes over the years etc
Interesting to hear about the origin of the lions😎😎
@@kats_journey_east Yes, Katherine, from your past videos I know you are working for an environmental organization and also you are bicycling a 2000 kilometers journey following in the footsteps of your present boss. However, I am still trying to get an idea on what you actually do... a.k.a your job description... coz you really have not been dropping many hints in your videos as you had said you would some videos back. I'll keep on following and trying to figure that out. Cheers, all the best and...ehhh... keep on bicycling ✌😁

So humorous with local interactions. The things I have heard so far watching this channel: that you are an American spy, a potential wife for their son, or that you are a Russian.

Always great to see an update of your bike tour. That area at 9:22 looks pretty nice for an after dinner chill ride~
Oh yeah, hope you've applied some sunscreen on your arms. Might wanna consider grabbing one of those UV blocking biking sleeves if you chance upon one along the way.
yes I use sunscreen, I can't get accustomed to the biking sleeves they are sooo hot even the ones supposedly made of thin lightweight material
I am hoping that China will continue to improve in this trajectory. I live in Australia now, but I am looking forward to make more visits to China with my young family. I am hoping that I will be able do a lengthy road trip in the near future

Very nice video! As always, thank you so much Katherine for showing us all around China! 🤩😍🥰
As I watch your video on your bike tour to even the lesser tier cities / town /villages , one can see how Chinese people both private companies & Government agencies is striving to continually improve not just their livelihood but their environment to be clean , eco friendly with pollution kept at a minimum. With you as a guide to open China to your many viewers especially the west is astounding & is inself a remarkable feat showcasing what an average American person qualities are being open, friendly , adaptable ,humble & we should not forget the charm, smile & vibrancy you bring to places you visit .
Yes I'm very impressed by what I see in China in terms of urban planning.
