That's really cool how ABC did the music, sound, and graphics package for the ABC Sunday Night Movie back in the early 1970s. That was ahead of its time. I was not born until 1977, but I do wonder what it would have been like to have grown up or lived during the early 1970s. Although it wasn't a simple time, it was still a simpler time to live than it is today. Back during a time where there were no cell or smartphones, no home personal computers, no internet, no social media. Yet, it seemed like life was easier for people back then. Hell, I hear stories of people that were even happier back then than today.
I could not finish watching that final ending to that movie. Got prodded to get ready for bed. Putting on bed clothes early and brushing my teeth beforehand made a difference.
for those that were alive during this time ..its not just the sounds and visuals its the AMBIENCE of everything (people , smells , foods clothes , furniture ,the lighting the general mood of life) that something like this activates
@@tias.6675 yes its amazing how visuals and sounds can can so powerfully trigger the memories and feelings that are stored forever in our sub conscious mind
Wow! When this theme played my mind instantly transported me back to age 7 where I wasn't allowed to stay up and watch the movie. I only got to catch this intro. I even know the room I was sitting in!
I was born in 1970. I’m obviously not gonna remember these openings although I did remember the openings that ABC had from 1976/77 through 1981. But hearing this music, I kind of wonder with that familiar sound if I overheard this being in my crib in the early 70s while my parents were watching TV ,,it’s kind of familiar sound not just this but other TV shows possibly from that era
Don't forget Funny Girl, The Odd Couple (w/ Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau), Plaza Suite, The Out-of-Towners, Airport, The Hospital (w/ George C. Scott), etc.
This version will always remind me of my Dad, older brother, and myself watching the premiere of “ Goodbye Columbus “ on WVEC-13 in Hampton, Virginia. Great memories.
Oh yes, the famous warning before the 007 movie started saying-“Although edited for television, some parents might find this James Bond film unsuitable for younger viewers, viewer discretion is advised.” 😳
@@6262999 And yet, the James Bond films from back then are tamer than even some shows you'd find on Nickelodeon or even Disney. My Dad told me about how Jane Fonda appeared in Barbarella, which got an X rating. He had to see it. So he and his buddies snuck in and saw it. He said that Jane Fonda just briefly showed her breasts and that was it. He said that in today's time, it'd likely get a PG or PG-13 rating.
imo ABC had THE best network movie intros though CBS had a pretty iconic one they starting using in the late 70's along of course with that absolutely gen X iconic "Special Presentation" bumper
This opening and closing for the “ABC Sunday Night Movie” was used from 1971 right up until 1974. The music for this intro was based off of two Burt Bacharach compositions “Are You There With Another Girl” and “Nikki”.
Have looked online everywhere, and there is at present (Feb 2023) no comprehensive chronological list of what movies aired on ABC SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE from 1964-1969. There's lists of 1970 on pretty much, but not the 1960s movies that aired. Someone with the time and resources needs to create this and post it here, on FB, on Reddit, and at IMDB
To add a little...after 2001: A Space Odyssey it seems like every single company and corporation wanted to use the slit-scan method to created streak effects. As you can see the networks picked up on it right away. Also, Whirpool commercials started using the technique. Like anything it got overused and by the mid 1970s there was a desire for a different approach -- for example, using animated white to create a glistening or shimmering effect on the edges of letters in a title.
It was Bacharach’s tune, but Harry Betts basically arranged it in such a way that it’s almost a new piece entirely. Almost. It still has the original motif by Bacharach…
@@BenjaminGessel Yeah the string motif at the beginning is from Betts' arrangement of the Bacharach classic "Knowing When To Leave" with Bambi McCormick. th-cam.com/video/LzgyinfUzIE/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUla25vd2luZyB3aGVuIHRvIGxlYXZlIGJhbWJpIG1jY29ybWljaw%3D%3D There's also a quote of "Nikki" and the chord progression from "Are You There With Another Girl"

I'm sure this theme music brought back lots of fond memories from the years past but the music is the one of the most incoherent mish-mash of musical notes I've ever heard on any musical piece.
I can feel the peaceful atmosphere from this I miss the old days so much
Me too.
It's amazing how certain music can immediately trigger memories.

An era of 3 perhaps 4 📺 channels and simpler times 😃
Even the TV commercials during the program were like watching movies.

After reviewing the big 3's opening presentations I think abc has always had that grand scale opening that says " you gotta watch this"!

What sucked was when you stayed up late only to find out the TV GUIDE was wrong and your movie wasn't what was shown
The opening with the ABC logo twirling is impressive for the time but the rest is so so--however the music is completely memorable and impressive

"Nikki" was used by ABC but not for this. It was used for their "Movie of the Week" block in the early 70's.

Nope. It's slit-screen photography. The same technique and producer as the space travel sequence in 2001 a space odyssey
