I believe he did this in high school and in college, coming in as the backup and kept the job each time. Poise, heart, drive, can’t be measured, at best a coach or somebody on the staff can recognize it or get a feeling about it. I think a lot has to do with how hard a person works, Tom Brady was famous for his work before he became the starter too.. and the hate is multi faceted in my opinion, some ppl wanted Lance to be a failure and thought he was and are now mad that hasn’t hurt them. A bunch of scouts missed on Purdy and don’t want to be wrong. The 49ers are good enough to compete without a really good quarterback albeit likely to come up short in the biggest games most of the time .. and probably some feelings of he hasn’t earned it, or that he’s made throws that were bad but went his way. What I don’t get is my fellow 49ers fans that are hating him, there’s not many but I’ve seen a few so far. The Seahawks should draft the kid from USC if they can and let him sit behind Smith for a season, either that or make a trade for Lamar Jackson and draft a high defensive prospect, not that I want that to happen but it’s what I’d do if they were my team..

Jimmy was playing some of his best football before the injury.
      ( Thank you CMC )
Then Brock plays better than Jimmy.
He scramble’s better. Throws fewer interceptions.
Plays better when the play breaks down.
He is more accurate and makes better snap decisions.
      High stepping to first downs.
Double pump fake screen passes to a wide open Kittle.
Turns his back to the defense and steps back so Deebo has time for his route to develop.
Sees Elijah while being “ almost sacked… twice “ soft TD throw under pressure.
Same with CMC hitting him with guys right in his face.
Oh …. Yeah….and he is smart enough to remember we have a tight end named George.
All while being humble and grateful for the chance got.
He is making enough plays for a decent highlight reel …. In just 6 games .

Man I love the energy that the 49ers have. Whether it's Deebo, or DeMeco, or Kittle, or Bosa they all look like they have FUN. Mic'd up Kittle has to be my favorite thing. I could see how being surrounded by guys like that, and you come in with some talent, those guys can really push you over the edge and make you fuckin BELIEVE. You have one of the best receivers in Deebo, the best defensive end with Bosa, one of the top tight ends with Kittle, one of the most well-rounded players in McCaffery...you have so many role models on this team. Greenlaw is scary, and Ward was getting under Metcalf's skin. That's saying something. On top of that, what is it like to practice against the 49ers Defense. What better way to practice? I haven't been a 49ers fan since Steve Young and Jerry Rice, and I'm feeling it again. I'm not surprised that Purdy is succeeding because I really believe the 49ers have something special going.
The last thing I'll say is... You can see fear in a quarterbacks eyes. Good quarterbacks come up to the line and command the offense. Bad quarterbacks merely run the plays. I used to be able to tell when Cam Newton would snap the ball from his snap count, from another room, just by listening to him. Aaron Rodgers, to this day, has one of the most ridiculous hard counts - it gets me off my game and I'm just sitting on the couch. On top of that, Newton (and many other quarterbacks) would come up to the line and they're clearly not making any adjustments. Every top tier quarterback makes adjustments. The poor ones walk up to the line and snap the ball, and you can see in their eyes that they're unsure of what they're doing. You saw this with Thompson in the Dolphin's game who was oddly enough, picked right before Purdy. You could tell that sometimes he was not in control. Cousins does this often as well and so did Huntley. Purdy, seems to have that love and understanding of the game that's required to be great. I'm not saying he will be great but in my eyes he has much more promise than most NFL quarterbacks.

Purdy's rise reminds of of Leicester City winning the English Premier League in 2016, at 5000/1 underdogs. They had only just survived relegation (finishing in the bottom 3 and getting demoted to the next division) the previous season, after having a shockingly bad 29 games, and going unbeaten their last 9 games.
What reminds me of Purdy is how people viewed it at the time. Leicester were viewed as a no-hope team that would be battling relegation again in 2016, but they came out of the blocks flying, and were top of the Premier league from the start until around halfway through the season. Up until that point, absolutely no-one thought they could remain top, because teams like Leicester don't win the League and they would eventually slip up.
Meanwhile, the usual big teams that are supposed to win just kept slipping on banana skins, and Leicester just kept getting results and staying top, beating some of the big boys along the way.
It was only after they won it, that people took a proper look, and saw that they carried good form from the end of the previous season, and played like Champions play for the entire season. It was only because it was lowly Leicester that people were in denial, despite them being the best team all the way through.
I guess my point is that if you take away all the fluff surrounding Purdy, that he's a rookie, Mr Irrelevant and all the rest of it, and focus on what he's actually doing and the results, the kid looks like a QB capable of winning a Superbowl. It's only if he wins the Superbowl, or puts in good performances at least, that his critics will slap their foreheads and say 'well of course he's a good quarterback, the evidence was there all this time and I just didn't see it'.

If you want to be successful, you must take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There’s always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you want to be successful in life.

I'm so happy for Purdy man, as a Niners fan this is just unbelievable. I'm confident in this team not only cuz this is the best overall team we've had in a long time, but Purdy has looked better than both Jimmy and Trey. People can say "oh he has weapons around him", but look at his film. His poise in the pocket, spacial awareness, throwing angles, he's a high IQ guy who rarely makes a mistake AS A ROOKIE. Jimmy was a vet and he used to get jittery in the pocket and made some incredibly dumb decisions pretty regularly. Like Pat said, he's a rookie whose tearing it up, a rookie drafted last to make it even crazier.

I remember just 4 years ago all the hate and doubt/disrespect Mahomes was getting before and after he was drafted. Now before you throw your hands up, I am an no means comparing/saying/proclaiming that Purdy is the new/next/future Mahomes or Brady or Montana, he is Brock Purdy and should be thought of as that in his own story. But I'm sitting here reading comments, listening to analysts with 50/50 mixed feelings about Purdy because he came out the gate causing a commotion late in the season, and so I'm thinking to myself where have I heard this before, oh that's right, a lot of people didn't give Mahomes credit either at first.
There's a video on ESPN from 4 years ago where Stephen A, Max Kellerman and others discuss Mahomes early in his career which they put on display that it's not the QB it's the system or it's all the talent around him from the offense to the defense.
Crazy how narrow minded people are in this game and while I might be biased since I am a 9er fan, I do give great players such as Mahomes respect and praise because I'm a football fan, even though he destroys my team lol. Oh and if you're curious what segment I was referring to with Stephen A, it's the one that's titled he doesn't believe Patrick Mahomes is one of the NFL's best young QB's, look it up because I'm not sure if they'll be cool for me to post the link. GL to everyone's team in the playoffs! Hella Fire Niner Empire!

If you have great defense, a good running game, and quarterback that doesn't screw up, you're going to win a lot of games. If your running game and quarterback are better than good, you have a shot at the Super Bowl. Right now, Brock Purdy is playing better than "average" or even good. Their running game is way above average with the combination of MacCaffrey and Deebo. This is the best team in the league right now. People hating on Purdy fall under the blanket "haters gonna hate".
