Best 4.0L thermostat replacement video on TH-cam, no contest. Unfortunately, the ZJ belt makes it harder than the XJs, but everything else is the same.
drilling the thermostat is great on older vehicles man I am glad I have California plates does Illinois plates really kill the gas mileage... beautiful skiing thanks for a great video
You said to mount the sticky side of the gasket to the engine block, then you proceeded to mount the sticky side of the gasket to the removable housing. Which is it?
I just did mine the other day on my Cherokee. Another tip is make sure you torque it down correctly! I cannot recall the torque but it's somewhere around 17ft/lb. Alternate tightening of the two bolts or else you will crack the waterneck.
Hello.... I have been driving jeeps for the longest and I wouldn’t trade this model, the motors are great . I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, I believe I’m the second owner and it’s at 280,000 miles and it’s still running pretty good. 🙃Regarding your license plate are you considering having one from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 we are not a state but we are territory of America and we are Americans... let me know... thank you for your videos.
As usual great video content and great attitude there young man. And, Brian, we know you got here because of a great family supporting you. And on top of all that we get to see great BFATE of you going down hill and then going back up for another try downhill again. Good Ski Viking this time I guess we'll get more Sky Viking on your next production - toot your horns of plenty.
I couldn't tell if you had one from Colorado or not very nice video very well detailed I'm an ASE Master certified automotive technician you showed the exact way I put those together and that is how I teach all of my up-and-coming technicians we have to share the wealth and we have to learn something new everyday otherwise and we're just one of The walking Dead like the rest of the world out there thank you.
There's no skiing left here unless you caught it on film or hike into a patch in a wilderness area. I'm still waiting for the snow to melt off Bomber Peaks West face so I can finally do my B-25 crash video.
(Brian with the super over enthused voice ready to conquer this dang thing!) "Welcome to wild card Wednesday, i'm here with Hayden Hale say What! Hayden: (In a very underwhelming and a dull glaring voice directed at Brian for not letting him have his morning coffee before he made him apart of his catchy beginning hook) what.. LOOOL
It actually makes it more bearable to function at life. I'm in such a good mood by the time I come back to town that I can put up with pretty much anything.
Hey, can I ask where you ski at? Are you using blades? Man, I really want to go skiing especially seeing as how you make it look so easy. Take it easy.
That was Sundance resort before it sold to a hotel company. This Season I'll be at Snowbird. Skis are 177cm Nordica Ignition. If you see me up there, say hi!
@@briansmobile1 i appreciate the reply back. I actually got the vehicle all back together two days ago. The thermostat had a vent hole already in it. It's running great.
Wish I'd seen this first, my thermostat dropped like youd mentioned and it leaked, like you mentioned and didn't realize it because of the thermostat and gave it an extra tighten and broke the top bolt off in the motor
In Delaware and I think Maryland the tags go with the car, in NJ they go with the person. Next time I'm in a junk yard in Delaware or Maryland I'll look for some for you.
Hi BriasMobile1.....greetings from Caracas/Venezuela.....this kind of tips/tricks is what I was looking for.....I own the same car here and I need to re-install the thermostat. You have hit 2 special points : the "necessary hole valve" and the "fall issue" at the moment to seat the thermostat. BTW, it is sufficient opening only 1 hole to the thermostat ??? Thanks again.... Saludos....
If you are in HOT Weather, you can By-Pass it and SAVE $$$$... I have Video in my Channel and Test Video too, check it out. It might be useful to you :D
Hey. Thanks for the video. I actually saw this video some time ago and somehow remembered that someone somewhere at some point ..... had said to drill a little hole in the top of the thermostat if the new one doesn't have a hole. I just said "a hole " in reference to a gas hole. Anyway, it worked in my 4.0 xj recently and I happened to just stumble upon the video at HEY, it was You. Thanks for real. I also just got my antique forever licence plate (1998 model) so Ii have a Mississippi tag for you! Where do I send it (if you still want one)
just think about how much Salt they use here in Illinois in the winter time..it's the only way these plates can hold up as much they use..I'm just a few miles away from him.
One of these threads someone said the torque for those bolts is 15 ft/lb. Do they go into the water jacket, or are they blind holes? Edit: This says 13 Ft/lbs www.torkspec.com/torkspecme.aspx?KI=69-4.0L-242ci-S6
You give me hope that I may be able to fix our new car one day. I've fixed my own vehicles since I got my first car back in 1986. I had to remove the engine cover to check power steering fluid the other day. WTFiddlesticks? Stoopid cars...
Awesome! What's an "engine cover?" Don't you mean idiot hood? The plastic hood the idiots require to fool other idiots that there aren't any moving parts or wires?
Me too, but 32 plus 18 is 50 and I counted. How can it be? Ahh, he must have same one in both lists somewhere. Was only looking for colorado and not repeats.
Yes you can but it will affect your gas mileage And if you live in a state where gets really cold your engine will never reach the normal temperature and your gas mileage will be less Not only that your heater won't work properly when it gets really cold. I am about to replace the thermostat in my jeep The engine temp gets up to 125 degrees in stead 210 degrees and I have no heat I only get cold air when its cold around 0 out side
love your videos buddy. I wonder how your videos will look if you make them 360 or 3D I'm sure they would look great as if your fan is actually there with you.
Thanks Brian. I installed a new tstat and housing and the damn Jeep hasn't gotten to operating temperature since. It runs rich so not only is it guzzling gas but its probably fouling up my spark plugs! Greetings from New England
Do you collect license plates, Brian? I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada and I'm sure I have one or two laying around. Have a Quebec one but I don't want to part with it and you have one anyway ;) Also...I probably wouldn't put a sticker on my car but I'd certainly put one on my toolbox at work.
The Québec license is from me. My name is Gabriel Nadeau from Brossard. I saw confusion and an star on the bord🤔. haha. I hope to receive your pliers. keep up your good job. -Gab
THANK YOU! The star means it's outside the US. (bonus awesome hence the star) I sent the push pin pliers out about four days ago. Hopefully you'll get them this week if customs goes well. : )
On these w/out jiggle pins, I'd instead drill "two" micro-sized (½ size of original presumed hole) holes on opposite ends for better/even area coverage🤔👌 "ya know how they do computer processors; cut the speed but double the cores, efficiency maybe?😉"
I would LOVE that! I'm going there for the Toronto race July 16-18, but there's no way I will have time to get one. I'll be flying in- diner- race- and back to the airport the next morning.
Best 4.0L thermostat replacement video on TH-cam, no contest.
Unfortunately, the ZJ belt makes it harder than the XJs, but everything else is the same.
That is the biggest hole you should ever do ? So what size is it ? 1/8--1/16 ?
drilling the thermostat is great on older vehicles
man I am glad I have California plates does Illinois plates really kill the gas mileage...
beautiful skiing thanks for a great video
Ha ha!
You said to mount the sticky side of the gasket to the engine block, then you proceeded to mount the sticky side of the gasket to the removable housing. Which is it?
I'm year late, but the gasket isn't symmetrical. It SHOULD be made sticky side to the block, but it's not made that way.
Lol! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Easy sand, the whole area down then put the gasket, then tighten. It will seal perfectly. Do not use no sealer.
I just did mine the other day on my Cherokee. Another tip is make sure you torque it down correctly! I cannot recall the torque but it's somewhere around 17ft/lb. Alternate tightening of the two bolts or else you will crack the waterneck.
Great tips and great bonus footage too! You really know how to enjoy life!

you're an awesome dude brian. thanks for takin us along on the slopes. wicked cool. rock on man.

use a rubber band to hold the thermostat in the housing then cut when done
Thanks for the tip!
Awesome bfate. You're such a genuine dude. Great channel!
Thanks Nick!
+briansmobile1 keep being a humble intelligent dude. The world needs more of you 👍
WHAT SIZE DRILL DID YOU USE BRIAN LET ME KNOW THANKS
Jack up the front axle a few inches instead of spilling the antifreeze.
Why does a jeep or any vehicle in 4 wheel drive feel like its broken on the front end when you turn?
How big is the hole supposed to be? i think i did a 1/16 in hole anyway i enjoy your videos your the man thanks.
That's good!
Nice Video !great tip on the thermostat ! in process of doing waterpump and thermostat now !!
Thanks for all the great advice Brian
Welcome
I’ve got an “01” grand Cherokee; would you recommend drilling the same hole for that thermostat as well?
Yes
That’s fresh brands new CAMOUFLAGE duck tape 🤣😂
More jeep videos! Is this the jeep that your going to be doing rebuild you mentioned in your connecting rod video?
Those built Jeeps are high budget. This one is a git'r done high school rig. I need to follow up with Kevin on that one. Thanks for the reminder!

Brian, where oh where are you skiing in this video ???????????? Awesome ride. By the way good Jeep Video. Thanks.
Nice video. I loved the skiing part as well!
Thanks Mike!
That application gun is awesome//such control of bead width
👍⛷bonus footage rocks. I like to ski and you showing how you ski. I still have to wait 5 months for snow. You still have a snow in Utah?
There's no skiing left here unless you caught it on film or hike into a patch in a wilderness area. I'm still waiting for the snow to melt off Bomber Peaks West face so I can finally do my B-25 crash video.
Do you have a Rhode Island license plate?? I have my old one that i will part with....lmk
That skiing look so fun! And so does the flying! I want to do those things so bad.
Thanks. Me too!

Hayden's a stud. Good kid then and a good man now.
I sure enjoyed the drill a hole trick, makes sense. Great footage of the slope. It must be hard to go back to work after a day like that.
It actually makes it more bearable to function at life. I'm in such a good mood by the time I come back to town that I can put up with pretty much anything.

I do not put stickers on my car but.......Your you tube channel played a big part in saving the riverrat.I would display it proudly.
If you buy a good Thermostat and not after market, they have a Rubber Seal / Gasket in them already.
Always good to buy a fail safe thermostat.....so when it breaks...it breaks in the open position....
@@sojourn1544 agree. How do you know which type you get. How can you tell from one to ano? Thx
How tight do you tighten the bolts?
What size hole do i drill into the thermostat? Drill bit size?
3/16" or less
@@briansmobile1 i appreciate the reply back. I actually got the vehicle all back together two days ago. The thermostat had a vent hole already in it. It's running great.

The video I needed today.
Glad it helped!
Do you have any New Jersey tags? I am right on the Delaware boarder in NJ, I could probably obtain a DE or MD tag for you, and yes, legally lol.
I have New Jersey from when I lived in Maple Shade, NJ. I don't have any of the others on that left list though. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!
In Delaware and I think Maryland the tags go with the car, in NJ they go with the person. Next time I'm in a junk yard in Delaware or Maryland I'll look for some for you.
what thermostat did you use?
You're such a lucky guy to be living where you are..and making the most of it. Love your videos.
And yes, I am jelly .;)
I very much enjoy your channel. Thank you for the knowlege
Welcome- that's a HUGE FISH John!
Can I pass the air through the left upper antifreeze tube? Mine is an 04.in line 6 do I need the hole in the the thermostat?

Hey Mr. Brian! wheres those BMob hoodies?!?! I want 2!
Hey Brian. I don't see a New Hampshire on your list. I have one I can send you. Not sure how?
Are you missing FL? I may have one I can send your way
Illinois has new plates now
just think about how much Salt they use here in Illinois in the winter time..it's the only way these plates can hold up as much they use..I'm just a few miles away from him.
It needs to be bulletproof ; )

Pronunciation of Adams surname will be like - Tzabay. Originally there's a J at the end.
A subscriber from PL :-)
I have a jeep grand cheroke 97.ing 5.2 do I need to do the hole on termostat?
No, it's preventative for mountainous areas and high mileage head gaskets.
Did this earlier and fucked it all up 😂🤝 I’ll be sure to use your tips
LOL you were still missing Colorado from your list, I'll have to send you one of my old sets
Me too, but 32 plus 18 is 50 and I counted. How can it be? Ahh, he must have same one in both lists somewhere. Was only looking for colorado and not repeats.
Fifty nifty United States from 13 original colonies..... Thanks!
You have South Carolina on both of your lists. You can remove it from the "need" list.
Thanks Erik! Georgia too!
saw the firebull hat on top from hush i wearing mine right now lol
I never went skiing before, now I am too old, but I sure feel like I have gone. Thanks.
Glad to share!

Yes you can but it will affect your gas mileage

Thanks!
what's the temp...??
Depend, they have 195F and 180F.. Your choice :D
Removing the fan shroud will make it a little bit easier as well
How do I send you a tag? I can cross off sc for you lol

Not one mention of the hole size, or did I miss something?

Man you rock!
I'll send ya an Oregon one
Mechanics love working in dirty, rusty engine compartments. Shiny red paint doesn't help keep a car running.
Like that tip!! Thanks!!
Holy smokes, that's talent on the skis!!!!
You could always buy a mityvac siphon there 35 bucks
I'm gonna send you a mass on off of my cj7

nice video... im watching fro Mexico
Couldn’t the same thing he accomplished by using petroleum jelly to hold the thermostat in place? I feel like silicone would be a PITA to clean
Thanks for that skiing footage at the end! Very cool-
I have a KY one for you!
LOL
Woaaah you crazy viking, thats cool, man! :)
Thanks! = : )
You still need "RHODE ISLANG"? 😂
