Depop loves to add changes that nobody asked for or needs. They don't have binding offers and now you HAVE to list the brand in the description. This is why I prefer Poshmark for selling.
Seriously that brand thing is so annoying, I'm a handmade seller on there and hate putting "other", why can't I put my own shop name or even just a "handmade item" option... seems so simple but I guess not lol 🙃
Most of the resell markets are collapsing, but Depop and eBay are thriving. I don’t think this decision will hurt Depop in the least because it’s got so much momentum. Mercari was already dying when they tried to go the “no fees for resellers” route. It was a Hail Mary move so not surprising it didn’t do much for them. Just be aware: The streetwear market was really hot for a while, and it’s starting to level off pretty rapidly so some sellers are going to associate the fee change with their success dying down. But it’s just the trends changing. Folks were willing to spend $500 on a 1996 rock tee for a few years there, but the economic climate has changed and the trend is slowly waning. No worries. We’ll adapt and survive!
People low ball me so bad and they lie as well one girl asked me to lower it 20 extra dollars because the shipping was “30$” which it later showed me it was only 13.99.
Putting the burden on the buyer makes no sense, buyers can decide not to buy but sellers will list no matter what Also sellers already account for the fees in their pricing, many buyers may not understand that and expect to discount stuff down to almost nothing I stepped away from clothing and into secondhand silver on my own platform, but I miss the Depop glory days lmao
Because people are buying before they get hit with the new fee! That's what I'm doing. Buying some things I was interested in and no longer buying on there.
Been like this in the uk for a while as vinted has smashed them as they make the buyer pay everything and its not affected them. Everyone and their dog is on it.
I agree that this will impact sales but the buyer marketplace fee is only on the purchase price of item not including shipping and tax whereas the payment processing fee is the total price. I haven’t been able to see any mercari sales data other than sellers opinions to see what the overall platform performance has been. I would also say that they have been doing this for uk sellers since Mach I believe. The good sellers will adapt and figure out a solution.
TBH IDK how to feel about this. I think that if Depop wants to move the fees moreso to the buyer's side, I feel like they should do something like bring back the free shipping option to level out the playing field and actually give more wiggle room so that people are more willing to drop money on items, rather than having to worry about all the shipping + fees.
Yeah like "no seller fees" sounds good in theory, but it screws out customers and I wish they just left it was the way they did. I calculate all my costs as a seller into my listings and don't want the customer to worry about it creating a smooth easy experience. I'm still gonna stick with depop, but wondering how this is gonna go. I sell on mercari, depop & poshmark. I wonder who wants this change? Because it seems almost all marketplaces don't listen to the actual customer/buyer base. But I am interested in hearing opinions. I get most of my items from the goodwill outlet (bins) so i don't mind how it was before this.
This will push so many customers away from Depop. I have a feeling customers will beg for a discount equivalent to whatever % fee they have to pay... (I've had 2 people message me today about lowering the price so they don't pay the fee)
I see people all over the top seller form so happy about this but like.... Hellooo?? Buyers don't want to pay any kind of surprise fee especially the younger audience of depop 😭😭😭.. The fees haven't even been applied yet, yet since that message my engagement has been much slower compared to early july
Mercari has been bad, but it's because their fees are super high. I have seen buyers buy a 20 dollar item with fees on mercari. it's like 40 dollars after the fees. It depends on what they charge buyers.
Been selling on Depop for like 6-7 years. These fees on both buyers and sellers have been getting out of hand. I’ll sell something and look at the transaction receipt to see the buyer paid about $26 in total for an item and I’m receiving $16. I barely accept offers anymore because I will be losing a ton of money by lowering the price. I think Depop can afford to take on some of these fees. They’re really losing buyers and sellers since buyers are paying $10+ in fees & shipping while the seller is only receiving like 80% of the transaction. It’s sorta ridiculous
i’ve only recently started selling more seriously but i’ve sold abt 13 items in the past two weeks and even tho that’s not a bunch it is a lot for how little i have listed so im intrigued to see how this affects my shop but i think shipping next day has helped the algorithm a lot
Yeah I didn’t know what was up cause I was selling like 8 things a day and a ton of offers and I’ve sold half of that and get hardly any offers unless I lower the price drastically

Yeah we’re fucked, top 50 seller for the last two years, and 5 sales in 2 days, f*+k depop for this
damn 😭

Poshmark is still thriving. I feel like people forget about it

the glory days were so good 😭😮💨
Weirdly enough, depop has been the best for me this week more than any
Same here!
Same
Because people are buying before they get hit with the new fee!
That's what I'm doing.
Buying some things I was interested in and no longer buying on there.
The fee doesn’t start until tomorrow, right now it’s free fees for buyers and sellers.
Same bro !!
Even with the extra small fee for buyers.. good luck finding anywhere else online where you can buy for as cheap as you can on depop in the U.S.
whatnot
Whatnot is way cheaper and ebay is just as cheap
Been like this in the uk for a while as vinted has smashed them as they make the buyer pay everything and its not affected them. Everyone and their dog is on it.
Vinted is going to become market leader in the whole of Europe. Nobody uses depop anymore. Ebay is srill good for non clothing items ofcourse

W vid, a little worried to see where this goes but hopefully it'll be in a positive direction

I just hope that this change doesn't affect your sales too much!!
Poshmark takes 20% but it’s so worth it. And it’s more adults so they actually pay for their items.
Great. Thanks for the help. Has Depop launched "go live?"
I'm just wondering if I can go live on Depop. TIA
no but they totally should!!!

im a top seller and sell maybe 1 thing a week at this point lol ebay is where its at.
I literally just set up my closet to sell all my shet smh
Yeah I didn’t know what was up cause I was selling like 8 things a day and a ton of offers and I’ve sold half of that and get hardly any offers unless I lower the price drastically
Dawg I haven’t sold literally anything since this shit went down
lets go! just acept the offer.!
Yea We’re cooked😭
It didn't affect my Mercari that much- still having same amount of sales on there
That’s good to hear, I hope so. I’m starting from nothing
Not good.
I won't be buying on Depop anymore after this change.
I can’t think of any good reasons they’re making this change…
